Thank you for taking the time to upload this! There isn't a whole lot of video tutorials out there for modding on the Sims 3. I'm still getting my head around it but this video has helped me understand a lot more. Ts4 Studio is a dream to use, it's a shame this is a little more tricky, but I'm quite determined to get my sims 4 cc into sims 3 as I've returned to the 3rd game. Anyway, thanks again for the time you've dedicated to this!
You are very welcome! Check the sims3tutorialhub for a ton more tutorials!!
@@Eikeeful thanks ill check it out! What I'm actually trying to do is, I made skyscrapers using 3D meshes from sketchup, blender and sims 4 studio using skyscraper shells from City Living. I'm building an LA right now, and have the LA skyscrapers and UV maps i made ready to go, but when I try to use a sims 3 skyscraper cc I found to clone, I try to import the mesh after milkshape, and I get an error message saying : Import Failed, could not update swiffleinformation for mlodentry : Verticles, faces. I have tried using several different cc skyscrapers I found, and they all do the same thing unfortunately. It works on sims 3 objects but I couldn't find any that were big enough so it dissapears and turns back to the original item when I walk away from it in game.
@@PopCorin-xo that usually means either use a different version of tsrw like the older one, and make sure you added all your EPs to tsrw or it won’t open EP CC
I got it working!! I finally found a version of TSRW that supported the cc. Thank you! 😊
I can't believe that most people understand how it all works. I'm so dumb, just beyond comprehension😭
thank you for this!!!
What about small items, jars for money, opening boxes,
What if you have more than two groups for the object? I have 4 groups, the first one says Mat: Diffuse and the other ones all say default I just realized that the shadow is not showing up in milkshape.
kentelove that depends on how many groups the EA object has you use as a reference. Import that into milkshape and see. Then try to mimik it by making the same nr of groups (you can merge groups in milkshape) in the same oder (you can also reorder in milkshape). If you need more help please IM me on tumblr @simplyimaginarypeople
I got everything down except for the milkshape part. Basically the part in milkshape starting 9:18 until 10:40 . I can’t get it to be in 2 groups. The only way I did have 2 groups is by exporting the shadow and then the object (aka separately). Of course my end product in workshop was awful and I’m assuming that’s because of what happened in milkshape. For some extra context, the object I’m trying to convert is the Japanese 1x1 table from snowy escape. Reference object (like the sims 3 desk u used) is one from a mod on mod the sims called Japanese low dinner table. I’m not sure if that has any influence on what I’m trying to do.
If it’s not two groups then you didn’t export it correctly from blender. In the export menu you need to select: selection only, objects as object groups, and unselect: include materials and objects as object objs
@@Eikeeful It worked! thanks!
Can you make a video about converting clothes from ts4 to ts3?
There is a tutorial! You can find it on my site sims3tutorialhub
Evrything works now! did exactly what u said xD now I only have 1 last issue and that's when I open the wso file in tsrw. the placement of the etxture is wrong. imma link u the images in a different comment (comment with link might end up in spam or automatically deleted by ytb, idk.) an important note might be that when opening object file in milkshaper, i do have 2 groups, but neither groups have a material. (i saw yours did and that u deleted them)
If the textures don’t line up it could be a UV issue, but I would need the file to check that. You can reach me per email: sketchbookpixels@gmail.com, tumblr: gruesim, or discord: TheNobody#6174
I need like a slowed down/dumbed down version of this LOL. I'd like to convert the big white TS4 outdoor ice rink to the TS3 (as functional obviously). I found both of the TS4 ice rinks already converted to TS3 but it's for 1.69 and I refuse to upgrade to that lol. Are there any suggested links to help me better understand the conversion process? I've never used blender so it's all new to me. I'm familiar with sims4studio as I've used it before to basically recolour objects but that's pretty much it lol
The 1.69 update doesn't mess with CC! So you can just use that version. 1.69 only changes if you can load specific EPs and forces you to use the launcher that is it 😊
@@Eikeeful Oh really? I've read so many bad things about updating so I've been trying to avoid it haha. As long as I don't have to be online to play with all EP's since lately our damn internet is CONSTANTLY restarting! (Ya been a battle with the company for a good month now to actually get someone physically over to our house to fix it) lol. I will read a little more into it before making a decision :/ I'm on the fence still atm lol but thank you for letting me know that it shouldn't be an issue with CC 😊
@@krazykrissims Nooo! Do NOT update!! But just install the 1.69 CC. It makes 0 difference, as the 169 patch didnt edit any gameplay files so it doesnt actually influence mods or CC so whoever wrote "for patch 1.69" thought it was useful but actually its not. The last patch that messed up CC was pets! Otherwise CC works for all patches :)
@@Eikeeful Oooh ok lmao gotcha 😉 Ok phew! I've read so many ppl complaining about it and that they wish they never updated and/or warning people not to for various reasons. Alrighty then I'll just download the already converted items lol. However I am still curious to learn how to do it and use blender. This video was very helpful btw 😊 I will just have to start watching more blender tutorials and begin learning/understanding it 😁 Thank you for the help and the tip 😊
Hi! Will this method also work with converting a couch? I’m struggling trying to find a way to convert a couch properly 😅
Yup!!
Great tutorial as always frankie! but like somehow, i really goofed it up.
So i tried to convert MXsims Sk8orCry Boards to my game they're not super high poly (1.5k) but they have with HQ textures (2k textures). i imported 3 swatches for presets + made a recolorable version and all together they ended up being 15 FREAKING MB after being compressed in S3PE (54 MB uncompressed JFC) the original poster's full download is something like 20 boards for about 12kb. I literally have no idea what I did to make the .package so ridiculously large? if anyone could help my stupid ass fix this so that these things don't actually fry my computer i'd be much obliged. Thanks!
BOOTYPOUNDER666 you need to use s3rc! It will compress your file size. Link is on the sims3tutorialhub tumblr
@@Eikeeful OMG YES! I watched your “common mistakes made while converting” video and between TS3RC and browsing for images instead of importing them I’M down to 3.5kb!
You’re an absolute wizard! Thanks so much!
Yay! Glad you got it fixed! @@bootypounder666
But what if I want to convert an item that I do not want recolored? Like I want to keep the original colors and texture of the item?
Then just keep the texture and import it into the multiplier and set all textures to false in tsrw except the first which you set to 136,136,136 grey. Or import also into the overlay but this can sometimes cause issues.
@@Eikeeful When you say keep the texture how would I do that? Do I bake the image in Blender but without removing the material? How do I set it to false in TSRW, do I do this for each texture version (Like if I have multiple swatches I want to add). Also is the specular file a DDS file? I tried making one and adding it but in TSRW the specular image was just a bunch of green lines.
@@dim3635 specular Tutorial should be on the sims3tutorialhub . Each different texture would be a new preset in tsrw. You don’t need to bake or anything, just export the object from blender. Unless the object has multiple textures in ts4, then you need to follow one of the 2 tutorials on that!
Hii, will this method also work with a rug? I've struggled a lot to find someone who can help me with converting a rug, and I've tried retexturing one and It looked horrible, so, is it simpler for a basic thing like a carpet?
Rug is not a functional object so it’s even easier!! You can follow any conversion tutorial. I would consider not using an EA mesh to import over but a 3D mesh, for example one from sketchbookpixels. EA ones are only flat meshes so if the rug has like bumps or so it won’t work with EA!
I think I was following... but I'm also still kind of confused hah. Can I use my iPad with a different CAD program instead of Blender? I use Shapr3D. Blender is a bit confusing to me.
Sure!!
I wouldn't think so but what about actions like dances and sports
The actions have nothing to do with the objects themselves. The actions are scripts that are linked to the objects. So if you want an object to have the same actions as a previous object, you just need to import your mesh over that one in TSRW.
Will this work for converting counters from Sims 4 to 3 or are there some extra steps?
Some extra steps, sims3tutorialhub has a tutorial on this!
What about card and broad games like checkers
You can import over the TS3 game tables? That way they will be functional.
When I import the TSRW object into Milkshape like at 11:45 it doesn't import the Joint with the imported groups. The Joints tab is empty. So I can't assign the joints in Milkshape. Why not? I do it exactly like this tutorial.
It is an EA object you are importing in? As wso?
@@Eikeeful Yes, exactly! Base game EA objects from TSRW as .wso, generally with 4 bones in TSRW (like a wall lamp, or a simple decor sculpture), and when I import them to MS, no bones show up under Joints. I tested further today and some other objects bring their bones with them all right... but I can't figure out why i.e. an end table can import its bone, but a wall lamp can not.
@@lengyelflo9074 interesting but it uses the joint with F001 at the end just like tables!
I would like to have the painting table with the animation from sims 4 in sims 3. Is that possible?
Possible yes, difficult? Very. You need to convert the animation and then link it to the table.
@@Eikeeful can the converted animation be added to the animation via workshop or with another program. Sorry my english is not that good
@@manuelahardt3554 no idea, I have never worked with animations! I would ask mspoodle1 and Desiree-uk on tumblr
can u make a Tutorial making tattoo for sims 3 please
Check out the tumblr "sims3tutorialhub" please, it has all the tutorials you need!
Wondering if is there any way to convert a Sim model from TS4 to TS3
Model? What type of model?
@@Eikeeful The whole sim model.
Like import a sim from Ts4 to Ts3.
TS4's CAS is a way better than TS3.
Since we can export their files to share, maybe we could convert them to ts3. Just wondering
Do you know how to make functional Sims 4 items? Sims 4 is really lacking in the toys department as far as swings and etc., and I would love to know how to make my own.
Nope sorry! I only play TS3 :) But I am guessing it is exactly the same. Use Sims 4 Studio to export an in-game swing, check out the mesh and the groups in blender. Make your own mesh with the same groups and same swing height, assign the same bones, and import your mesh over the EA one?
can you use this method for all cc Items you want to convert ?
For all TS4 objects, yes. CAS items are very different. Is this what you meant?
Eikeeful yes cas items and blankets. There is a cc blanket for beds that I wanted but it wouldn't work and when I put it in milkshape it didn't show up with two materials. I wasn't for sure on if all Items would have two materials or only one. And also my blender doesn't have a material mode so I didn't know if that's why it didn't show up with two materials.
and I have blender 2.70a just so you know. Idk if that's the problem
I am slightly confused. Blankets should work. If you have tumblr you can send me pics etc on @simplyimaginarypeople cause I can help you much more in a private chat!
What if something has TWO meshes?
If something has two mesh groups you just import it over an object in TSRW that has the amount of groups you need!
Do you have a tutorial to convert wands from the sims 4 to sims 3
I mean…..if you mean functional ones then we would have to see, if you mean accessories then just follow accessory tutorials!
@@Shining_Nikki_Lover I mean you would have to clone the in game one via s3oc , then default replace it in s3pe, so export the geom, make the ts4 one match the bones, position and size and save as geom and then replace the geom in s3pe. Then replace the texture too.
@@Shining_Nikki_Lover I don’t really play sims or so stuff anymore! And it’s really niche so it’s not worth it, but I can deffo help you if you get stuck
Great tutorial, however I followed all these instructions and in the end a exported it into .Sims3Pack, which is what you need for it to install on sims 3, right? Anyways I have all the latest updates, but it says that I need the latest update? Is there some setting I need to change while I'm converting the object or is there something else wrong? Many thanks!
I only use packages, packs are a mess and usually totally mess up at some point! So I would install as packages instead! Then it also won't complain about updates ;)
How to do the other thing TS3 objects to TS4???
No clue, I don't play TS4 :D
@@Eikeeful yeah, I get ya
This will work on all furniture?
Well there are always differences but mainly yes!
@@Eikeeful awesome thank you so much! 😊
What if one part of the object moves
You will have to check an EA object that is similar to see which part needs which bone!
So if I wanted to convert a sims 4 bed I would just need the bone of a sims 3 bed?
@@crosscultureliving7126 uff, beds suck usually. I would make only the frame honestly and the it just needs the deco bone that ends with f00. If you check my site sketchbookpixels you will see I have frames, just import over those in tsrw. People have made separate mattresses to put on top. Converting a mattress is a very complex thing....
@@Eikeeful would you consider doing a tutorial for sims 4 beds to sims 3? it would be so appreciative
@@charlottemadson7194 hmm probably not as I think it's better to just convert frames. To assign bones to a ts4 mattress and bedding is a bit complex. But I will have a think about it!
Hello. Would anyone be willing to convert the Void Critter game from Sims 4 to a chess table in Sims 3 for my wife? Have it improve logic and their relationship with each other. We'd even be willing to pay for it, it's just that I never used any of the mentioned programs and the thought of it stresses me out no end - I'm weird, yes. We already asked in some forums but no replies. We'd be eternally grateful - my wife for the game, me for the peace :D
Edit: She wants me to mention that she saw something similar on Around the Sims 3 for a different game, just to make sure that it doesn't look like she's ripping the idea off of them or something. She's also asked there for the conversion, no reply either.
Not that easy as it has a screen which shows images, which is a script (which says how the images change) and that is very difficult to convert!
Hi Benjamin Meier, I know this is coming a bit late (I see you commented 9 months ago), but after becoming interested in the Voidcritters game for my Sims 3 as well, I converted it first as a decorative item. I will, eventually, get to the point of adding some features to it. I may make a chessboard version if I can't figure out how to do better, but right now I am actually learning about converting the Voidcritters animations from Sims 4 to Sims 3. This is a project that will take me a long time though. As Eikeeful mentions, converting the screen, effects, and making the animations actually play properly after being converted requires scripting. I have only a small bit of coding experience, I'm not gonna lie, which means I have a lot to learn first... I did convert the item itself though, unusable, for decor right now.
What about food
As in the actual food they eat? You need to make default replacements for that and it gets a lot more complex.
Well food in TS3 is a default object, so you would have to make default replacements.
