As a former USMC SAW gunner, I see very little point to having one in semi-automatic. But hey, if they let the full auto versions out, then sign me up.
You could just buy a semi and convert it into a full with proper paperwork and license
If you're a Corps gunner I trust you one hell of a lot more than Army. Army is just a SPC that they give a rifle. Corps actually dedicates gunners for the most part
Binary triggers are still legal
@@cadidiot_101 lol ok fanboy
@@cadidiot_101 how about u just respect every branch
$8K? They're almost $11K now... I hate inflation
Not worth shit imo without full auto 🤷♂️
Hope they make an FRT trigger for it. Otherwise it is an expensive gun that a M4 can compete with.
M249 limited to semi automatic are like Ferrari with all its glory but limited to 60 Mph
About ten years after it gets discontinued a lot of tunes will be changed regarding whether it was worth eight grand or not, lol.
Certain people would have you believing that a machinegun is so much more deadly than a semi-auto gun. NFA Sucks
In trained hands? It's one of the deadliest weapons against infantry in the battlefield. As part of a fireteam? Undoubtedly deadly, right under a 240. But most rogue gunners aren't operating in fire teams, let alone 2 man pairs. NFA gets to stay relevant and FN gets to sell this retarded weapon to someone who probably never even served in any branch.
@@videogames9415 What do you think about yours?
@@videogames9415 this can be made to fire full auto just like any ar-15 by taking out the latch that locks the hammer back requiring you to let off trigger to reset it to fire. Everyone specially Dems and ATF want average people to think that you need a auto sear but you really don't 🤷🤦🤣
@@videogames9415 NFA is trash.
@@videogames9415 ok pog
It's crazy how much the price has went up for this over the years and that's if you can even find one for sale
My local store (Rifle Gear) says they have 5 in stock on their website. They're also charging $10k for them.
3 Years Later $10,799 only 1 available within 200 miles
I'll never forget carrying a saw when I was in. My kit weighed more than me
Are your ankles, knees, back, and shoulders still the same?
Protip: Any HK selectfire trigger pack will work in this weapon and convert it to selectfire. NFA stamp is for the trigger pack, not the gun and is therefore legal to install on the M249S. Best way to get a CIV legal selectfire M249.
@Haku Yuki czcams.com/video/5eaiZ41KsqA/video.html
The more you know🌈
That sounds bonerific!
where did you hear that? the dimensions of the trigger packs are completely different, and the operating mechanism is completely different. the trigger pack is a simple sear, h&k style full auto trigger packs contain a hammer assembly and auto sear.
ATF: *has entered the chat*
I spent over 20 years behind the SAW in multiple war zones and hardly ever went above a 3 round burst. Full auto is for people who do not know how to shoot.
Semi is just fine for someone like me, but I still would love the 3 round burst ability.
Also a SAW gunner here, and 5 round burst was more common. 3 rounds with the M-60. 3 rounds with the saw can be done, but you have to be really light and fast on the trigger not to get 5. The other thing he didn't mention was the gas lever on the front of the barrel is clearly missing. I only ever used it on slow speed (~900 rnds/min IIRC). The gun was less reliable on the higher speed.
oh shut up, spoiled brat
@@zoomthumpthump - Agreed. US Army Infantry veteran. I spent a year as the primary gunner on the M60 crew, plus a year on the M249 SAW. Yes, after a bit of practice, most gunners could squeeze off a single shot on our MG. However, that sort of behavior created too many malfunctions on open-bolt guns. The M60 performs best at a 3-6 round burst; 6-9 round burst on the SAW.
What Killer Cross didn't discuss is that the main purpose of the MG is to destroy and suppress enemy targets in breadth (traverse), depth (enfilade), or a combination of both. No other weapon in the squad or platoon can sustain such fires - which is why the MG comes with a spare barrel, 600-1000 rounds of ammunition, plus an entire crew to keep the MG in operation for the duration of the battle engagement!
While semi-auto fire out of an M249 SAW does strike me as odd...I will also admit that a sustained rate of fire at 450 rpm would do the trick. Indeed, there were medium and heavy MG in the First World War that fired that same cyclic rate of fire. On the other hand, this semi-auto M249 fires closed-bolt. I suspect the barrel would heat up faster due to that, and that means the crew would have to change the barrel more often. Still, do-able.
I remember all the training we had on it they hammered into us this is not semi auto and doesn't like firing single rounds because it will jam up like that if you don't fire a burst.
So you are saying a dremil and a new bolt group and a new trigger group is all you need to make a full auto
It’s going for $10,000 today…
Now I want the Colt LMG upper for my M16.
I see little point functionally if u wanted a civi "saw" replica just go for an m27 build or an rpk those in my mind would serve the purpose and still be viable without full auto
The founding fathers owned privateers so we should be able to own full autos in general (I especially mean the mk19 to be included)
Loved shooting it in the army while in Korea. But who would pay this much for a semi auto version of thid
Aww man semi auto that's just disrespectful to that weapon it's like taking a male porn star and chopping off his junk and sending him back to work or try to but absolutely awesome firearm good video bud
Lmao
Like going fem then deciding you want to be a real man.
Such weird logic there bud...
I would say it's not worth it. Ya you have 200 rounds to blow through but it's not worth the expense. Full auto I would say go for it.
The point of this gun is it has a heavier barrel than an AR and it can reliability shoot 200 rounds without drum mags that almost always fail to feed at some point. And in a pinch just like an ar-15 can be made full auto by removing the latch that catches the hammer and requires you to let off trigger for it to reset to fire🤷🤦🤣 the Dems and ATF want the average person to believe you need a auto sear but in reality you don't. When you remove the latch it allows the hammer to follow the bolt forward when trigger is pulled let off it stops. It will actually shoot faster a little than a full auto sear that way😏🤫
@@spankthemonkey3437 I too love out of battery explosions.
@@Tk210ism I've seen it done personally and the shells were fine they all fired in the chamber. The hammer doesn't start to touch the firing pin until bolt is all the way forward. Let's keep this a secret 🤫 😭🤣
@@Tk210ism The M249 is designed to fire safely and reliably from an open bolt. The pre-2022 M249S deviates as minimally as legally allowed from that design.
Looks fun to shoot but not so much to own because of the high price tag.
Would be interesting to know the cost to manufacture. How much does FN have in it?
people say this is too expensive for what you get, but for gun collector's this isn't too expensive, i think this firearm is more for collectors then to be used in the field so why not? i've seen 1500 dollar bottles of bourbon that tasted way worse then a 30 dollar bottle, but it's about the collectability of it
A couple of comments. First, if you have the money- it's worth it. And forget the 8000! It's current cost is 9500- 10500+-! However, the current model is a biatch to charge! If you are 195lbs and work out 3 times a week no big deal to charge- but if your not- it is NOT EASY TO CHARGE! Another factor is trigger pull- mine is about 17lbs! This thing makes the Nagant revolver feel like a custom 1911! FN says if you fire 200 rounds in 2 minutes to let it copl or change barrels-😂! There is no human alive who is going to fire 200 rounds in 2 minutes with a 17lb trigger! Finally, the trigger reset is hard and fast and trigger bite can be a problem! Use a glove!
So glad I got the pre-2022 version.
They make modern ar15 belt fed uppers for like 2k... 8k? Mmm to a collector yeah
SemiAuto saw is like nonalcoholic beer
I'd get one if money were of no object for the collectibility and fun of it.

@@spankthemonkey3437 There's no hammer like an AR-15. The MG version of the M249 is open bolt, which means it's designed to fire safely and reliably in full auto without a safety/auto sear.
Making the M249 a semi-automatic is an absolute INSULT to the people who have actually held the real version.
I'd pay 15,000 for the full-auto version, knowing full well that the accuracy flies right out the window but at least I won't look like a window licker trying to desperately pull the trigger faster than the speed of government.

Pretty sure anyone who buys these makes it full auto through mods and never tells a soul. At that price i mean come on.. No way someone would pay 8k for a semi, even if its iconic
i'm sure someone has added a shoe string budget mod to that lol
That's 8 grand not including the special tool you need to buy to put the links together and all the rounds. Also any extra links to buy when you leave some at the range. I can't wait to get one!
You do not need a linker! It's easy to link 5.56 by hand.
To have one is just been my dream all the full auto I got is my finger. I'm forsure getting one
You could also get a binary trigger for it
3:07 did he say nutsack
Price will come down eventually, maybe not now, but at a gun show down the road it'll be priced just wright.
Do they have a lend lease program?
Well, 5 years later...you cannot find any M249S for sale....worth it? SURE, I would not sell mine for less $16K today. FN does not make it and will not make again and that just got the value up. Not for the those that do not appreciate belt fed, seeing all the negative comments make me think is only because they could not afford...but if they they only had the money......
actually I see one for sell now for $10k lol
Cabela's in Hamburg PA has one in stock
I know dudes a moron there's like five for sale around where I live.
Maybe 3k but not 8 thousand dam dollars. Wayy too much for a semi auto 'machine gun', unless some creates a high qualify bump stock for this, even then, its still not worth 8K.
HOW TO AVAIL THIS GUN.
Worth 8k?
No.
This does nothing an AR can’t.
Opening up your gun safe for friends would be almost worth it. Let me just move my saw out of the way to grab that thing I need in the back.
@@josh084479 not for 8k. You can make an ar 15 LMG (semi). There is a 200 round m249 ammo option for modification purposes.

This is badass even if semiautomatic. Unfortunately I live in california 😕
It's legal
So buying it and a dremel could mean a auto m249

I need 100 of those to buy ok
Is it civilian legal? For more protection purposes
Put a binary on there be pretty fun.
Save two grand and acquire a FightLite MCR upper for your AR15. It works just fine with a registered "fun switch."
all you need now is a frt switchout
can these be converted to full auto? asking for my SOT friend.
It would take far too much work to make it full auto. The ATF makes sure of that before they allow anything like this to be sold.
@@bigalmc_fal Well from big companies yes. But niche clone companies seem to have less atf eyes upon them. Like PTR for example.
@@bigalmc_fal But good to know on this m249, thank you
Yeah it can, if you really want to, you got to be willing to put the work into it.
With the pre-2022 version at least, the slide hammer rails block the mil-spec op-rod slightly, and the receiver blocks the mil-spec trigger frame slightly. Not sure about the latest abomination with the impossibly heavy trigger pull. My understanding is an 07/02 could leave the M249S unmodified and register a drop-in conversion built from surplus parts.
I wonder how FN sells
To sell an M246s for such a low price
It was the fully auto though
I'll own one....Cool toy
Top Shot :)
Audio levels are way off on this video.
I wanna see someone bump fire this
Not matters to me if I can convert it in my garage. If I can’t I’m not gonna waste my time.
So if you grind down to sear would that not be full auto another words uncontrollable fire
Calling the 249 in full uncontrollable is a brain dead take. It weighs 13lbs and was LITERALLY DESIGNED to be shot in full auto. It's entire purpose being a saw (Squad AUTOMATIC weapon) is to lay down suppressive fire. It's not uncontrollable
$8000 and a $200 donation to BATF.. Well, it would come in handy during the Zombie Apocalypse.
No way I can pay cash for this thing this year.....But I have a credit card........
Wash your t shirts in cold water and they’ll fit better
Now it's 10,000

Dear Santa.......
You can get an m82a1 for that
crank trigger
8k? It’s 10k now 😂
Tbh it’s worth it for what it is
No it is not😂
A binary trigger would be cool with this gun
Unless the Full/Semi were interchangeable, rendering that platform useless...
Its 11k now and sold out like everywhere.
It's a piece of junk anyways, you can make an ar15 for the same price as this that will be better at suppressive fire than this
Cool collector's piece though
Pointless gun, unless you could get a rare breed style trigger to function in it.
does it come with a binary trigger or do you have super fingers?
Someone has been play a bit too much CoD: Infinite Warfare.
Not worth it at all. You're literally paying double what the MSRP is for the full auto.
F*ck that.
If the price is almost the same as the regular full automatic then this is a waste of money.
biggest waste of money! it would be worth it though if a company made a Slidefire stock !.
So cut out the rails got it
Repeal the Hughes amendment
200rd belt
I think its cool as fuck, but not $8k cool.
Whats the point of this gun when you can get a 20" HBAR Ar15 which will weigh way less, offer better ballistics, 1/4 the price, and 1000x the support.
Hey why not I think it's a awesome weapon only people that are going to complain about it are people that don't have jobs and live on welfare so get a job and you can have one
Riiight, all the guys down at Lowe's that work hard everyday own a $8000 overpriced AR-15 just because anyone that works and has a job should own one. SMH
Hmm
it seems to be also missing the gas regulation system.
Modernized military-issue barrels don't have an adjustable gas regulator. Reduce number of small moving parts that can break.
bruh if its not full-auto then wtf is the point :[
You can have a collection of nice rifles for $8000. Hell no......
Okay, then what do you buy once you have that collection of "nice rifles"?
this thing isnt worth 8 grand. the military model is, but not the civilian version of the m249. basically, any AR15 will do what the civilian SAW will do, only better. save the money and build a nice 12.5 SBR instead.
Just as deadly in the right hands. It's worth every penny dude.
You got an AR that can feed 200 rounds reliably without a mag change? Swap an overheated barrel (yes, you can overheat barrels with semi-auto)? Mount to a tripod, vehicle pintle, or swing arm?
All that is, is proof that some people have more disposable income than brains. That’s absolutely stupid.
But semi-auto is just as good
8k ... Depends on who it's aimed at.
It looks like it would work for taking out the trash.
my fav. bad a$$ Army
Yeh, i can bump fire it
A closed-bolt, semi-auto SAW? What the fuck is the point?
Christopher Fox honestly, all the fun of the saw is in holding that trigger and letting it rip
WTF A BRIT ???
If it aint full auto it aint worth my time
Naw!!! I'd rather just go buy 2 scars from Fn. Those saws are really no fun unless there fully.
If it's not FA... then WTF?
Kidding.
Payin 8-10k for this is stupid.

Is it worth $8k? No, no it is not.
The fact that it’s semi automatic makes me cringe so hard 🤦♂️
I don't see any use for me and that price hahaha no thanks for sure
