    What a great comparison and breakdown. You covered everything so well. I just received my Mayfly OSMO. I was pinching pennies but now wish I had gone ahead and bit the bullet and gone with the bikepacking version of the Dragonfly. Great tent with a ton of great features. Bikepack version uses DAC Featherlite NSL poles which are stronger (but heavier) than the DAC Featherlite NFL poles that the regular back packing version uses. Nemo probably chose so because the shorter sections of the bikepack poles put more stress on the connection points. So in the end it evens out durability wise. Nice review. Was waiting on this one ever since that short video.

    What a thorough comparison of these tents, great job!!! I am purposing my tent for more technical adventure motorcycle riding using a "rackless" bag system rather than bulky and heavy panniers. Weight and size are paramount for riding the types of terrain I will encounter. Thanks for taking the time to produce and share your knowledge, your video was of great assistance in making my decision ...2p Bikepack it is!!!

      @@Jaake0324 … my apologies for the delayed response. I picked up the Big Agnes 2 person Bikepack Tent. I got it late in the season and only had the opportunity to take it on three shorter adventure motorcycle trips before winter closed the window on me. So far, no complaints at all! It is very lightweight, packs extremely small, I simply stuff it in the stuff sack (I don’t fold it at all) and throw the pole bag in my duffle alongside the tent. It’s quick and simple to set up and break down. The zippers work amazingly well one handed. The shorter cut pole system goes together no different than the longer cut poles. the stakes are very durable, much more so than standard stakes with other tents. The tent seems durable enough to me. So far, I love the tent, enough, so that I’m taking it on a six week adventure, motorcycle trip this summer from New Jersey to Montana and the Northwest National Parks. I don’t expect to have any issues! Hope this is helpful!!

    Great video! Thanks for taking the time. I am looking for a lightweight 1P and have it narrowed down to this as well as the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL1 and the Sea to Summit Alto TR 1. At this point, I have them ranked as the Big Agness, this, and then the StS. I am just having a hard time with that high rainfly! LOL. I know you said that you have not had any issues, but it just seems so counterintuitive as a rainfly. The big selling point for me on this one is the OSMO fabric, super intrigued by the properties over the straight nylon as the others. Open to your thoughts, as well as from others.

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures  Před 9 měsíci

      I think for ultimate weight savings with the durability the Dragonfly will beat it out. Are you looking at the bikepack versions or the regular backpacking tents? I can't help but love the short poles for the bikepack versions and with the Dragonfly it will also have that landing zone. I also think that it will depend on what type of climate you frequently backpack in. For rainier, wet, humid climates, it might come down to the OSMO fabric. I just got off trail where there was 97% humidity and the OSMO fabric did not soak in any moisture at night and this can also help save on weight. The new Dragonfly also has just as much internal storage space now as the Copper Spur.

      @@GIRLplusDOGAdventures Actually, my husband had a Gregory Solitary 1P tent, so we bought the NEMO Dragonfly for me. We used them up at Wapiki Lake in the Dark Divide near Trout Lake, WA and found ourselves in 60 mph winds with snow, sleet and hail the next morning. He was so cold in his tent that he decided to sell his 30+ year old tent for a newer one. We couldn't both fit in the Dragonfly as we both have the NEMO Tensor Insulated Wide sleeping pads which are too wide for the 2P tent. So I bought him the NEMO OSMO Dagger 3P tent so we could both sleep in the same tent together and have room to spare. He still wants to get another 1P tent but hasn't quite found what he wants yet.

  • @Kilroy_Wuz_Here

    I have the 2p Backpacking version. My only complaint is not having the landing zone. While I’ve never had sssue with water getting in the head end (and I was just camping in a very heavy storm last week), I do find that water coming down off the fly can cause muddy splashback into the space under the vestibule. The landing zone would help keep things dry and clean. Thankfully, I have plenty of room in the cavernous tent itself. If you’re using this for just one person, it is massive. (even easily fits the Nemo Roamer pad if you happen to be using for car/motorcycle camping and want some extra comfort). Lots of room, and the overhead storage is great. (Will agree that I’d prefer a larger head end pocket, but do appreciate the one handed zipper operation, so I’ll deal with it.
    The Osmo fabric works great. No stretching and no leaking so far.
    Has proven to be a great tent.

      Thanks for the additional info! Yes, I was super surprised they didn’t include the landing zone since they did in the Dagger Osmo. I never thought I’d need the Landing Zone, but since I had one on my previous Dragonfly it’s become one of the things I love about it.

    First of all, thanks a lot for all the efforts for testinf and for making all these videos!
    Now, if I remember your 2021 dragonfly review video correctly, you were somewhat annoyed by the short velcro strips that are used to attach the rainfly to the poles in the 2021 version. Is this still the case for the updated 2023 version, or have they been enlarged by nemo so that they are now easier to handle (especially with wet or cold hands or when there's lots of wind)?

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures  Před rokem +2

      Primarily because of the stronger denier of the tent with the dog and the Dragonfly is free standing vs the Hornet is semi-freestanding. Hornet volume is also smaller so with a 90lb dog it makes a difference.

  • @DanceCommander
    @DanceCommander Před 7 měsíci

    What a thorough Video. Thanks so much!
    I have a question about the 1P Version:
    I'm less worried about rain coming in via the U shape cut out on the head area, since the bathtub floor extends very high there, so there is enough overlap between fly and bathtub floor.
    I think the bigger Problem is the none door side (1P Version only, obviously). On this side, the fly doesn't go down to the ground either, but contrary to the head end, the bathtub floor isn't extended there - so there is basically no overlap.
    Any Issues with rain coming in from this side when it's windy?

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures  Před 7 měsíci +1

      You should be able to adjust the fly to be close to the ground but not all the way. The fly does extend a bit out to the side so rain shouldn’t get in and you have about 4-5” of bathtub floor. I’m extremely windy storms though I can see some rain coming up, but we’re talking a lot of wind to force the rain up and under.

      I still love the 2021 version. Most of the rain was overnight of course so I would just trying to shake it off in the morning and then dry it out during lunch. It would dry very quickly in the sun. I never really noticed too much of a difference given my pack was already heavy.

    Thanks for this thorough review! Nemo's own videos are awful at showing what all of the actual features are. Just to clarify: does the 1p backpack version have that nice mesh pocket at the foot end? And is the only hang loop on the inside the one you showed at the top, or are there others? I like to run laundry lines inside my tents, though I could probably get creative if there is only the one attachment point.

      Yes, the 1P does have the extra storage on the foot end. Only 1 hang loop on the inside but there’s also the top mesh storage too you could hang stuff off of too or clip/rig the line up thru there.

    Great review...highlighted something for me about the new Dragonfly set up. Question - so as it is now with new clip system, you can't really set up as a fly and footprint only set up? Can you confirm that please? Do you think you could sew in a small piece of webbing with a grommet to the fly corners to be able to achieve that (or even a grommet attached to the corners just with a small cord on a loop?

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures  Před 16 dny

      Confirmed, yes you cannot do a fast fly set up in the new version so will need the tent to stake out the fly. For the grommet idea, are you wanting to be able to just do a fast fly? Trying to visualise what you're talking about.

    Thank so much you for this very helpful video. Is the tent waterproof or only waterrepellent? Could you make a Video with Nemo Dragonfly osmo vs. Big Agnes Copper spur? Which one performers better under heavy rain and bad wind conditions? Which one has the more durable Material? And what is ment with live time warrenty? Do Nemo give support, when a tent pole brakes or a zipper won‘t work properly anymore?

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures  Před 2 měsíci

      The tent is waterproof. I do have a video on the Dragonfly vs Copper Spur (2021 versions) czcams.com/video/_llM6QHnBPY/video.html here you can review. The newer Dragonfly OSMO should perform better under heavy rain due to the new material. Both are pretty decent during bad weather. I do prefer the higher bath tub floors during windy storms though because it prevents water and other debris from getting in. NEMO's lifetime warranty would be on the construction and design of the tent or a manufacturing defect. So if a tent pole breaks because of normal wear and tear then they wouldn't replace the whole tent for it. However, if it breaks because of a design flaw or faulty material then they would replace it. You would send the tent in for inspection to NEMO. Same thing with the zipper. It depends. For some of those reasons, I like to purchase NEMO products from a retailer like REI because you have 1 year to return it if the tent doesn't work out for you.

    I've been trying to decide between these two tents and also the Dagger OSMO 2P Backpacking tent. 1) On the bike tent, I can't tell how much of the ceiling is black mesh for stargazing. From videos on Nemo's webpage, it looks like its just a small square over the head area with the white privacy mesh covering the ceiling over the leg area. The Dagger ceiling is all black mesh. How much of the bike tent ceiling is black mesh? 2) I'm always concerned about "little bear" fur balls nibbling on any gear left outside the tent as they search for salt. I love the looks of the Landing Zone but is it capable of deterring these guys from ending your trip? 3) Last question, Amazon seasonal rating for both the OSMO Dragonfly bike tent & backpacking tent is only Summer. I want a three season tent. Did you find they both worked fine in Spring and Fall? You had snow on them and they seemed just. Thanks for producing such a fine video comparison review. (I found your CZcams channel from SBO giving you a Shout Out Thanks for planning their Colorado Trail adventure). Looking forward to watching your content😍

    • @GIRLplusDOGAdventures
      @GIRLplusDOGAdventures  Před rokem +5

      Hi @sierraseb331, if you go to about 17:19 in the video you can the "naked" tent view and the black mesh is just over the top but extends down to the foot area. The white privacy mesh is pretty much just up the sides. The landing zone definitely won't protect the gear from those pesky rodents, just rain/mud. The Dragonfly definitely works 3 season. I've used it in the winter and it's been fine. Not of course if you have 3 feet of snow, but the higher bathtub floors actually help keep a lot of the cold wind from getting at you. I also like the 2P for winter because I can cook inside the vestibule in the tent w/o having to leave my sleeping bag and it's super cozy.
