  • A short documentary film capturing the engineering and technical challenges of Exeter’s flood alleviation scheme which uses the natural landscape to reduce flood risk, while at the same time conserving habitat for wildlife.
It includes a number of environmental improvements that benefit people and wildlife - new wetlands have been created in the flood relief channel and a new community orchard and wildflower pollinator networks created to encourage butterflies and bees.
The wetlands are regularly visited by birds from the Exe estuary including redshank, snipe and godwit. Fish, otters, eels and lamprey use the meandering channel stream and backwaters, and a mixed colony of bats are thriving in an old lime kiln.
