This is practically a free private lesson! This helped so much with making this excerpt just easier to comprehend.

Jim it was great to hear all the challenges and sophistication that goes into making what we as listeners just hear as "beautiful music". Clearly not simple.

A terrific lesson, enthusiasm, clear steps, easy to understand. I've gained a new appreciation for the trombone. Thank you!

Ingenious way of making a very difficult excerpt much more manageable. I plan on learning it after I’m done with college auditions.

Great advice here. I love how the anchor notes in addition to being chordal notes they work nicely with where you would want to pulse the phrase rhythmically.
Thanks for putting this out Jim

Oooooooooh. So that's why you have the big gig! I observed one thing you didn't speak about, but amply demonstrated:a fantastic ear. Training it for all aspects of musicianship (pitch, style/taste, and rhythm) is fundamental.

Nice tone, pitch, playing and explanation. I know all instruments have their challenges. I play guitar and drums. I know a few trombonists and I hear that it's one of the hardest instruments to play. All slide and no keys to press down. Point. You need a great ear! lol

Amazing video. I'm a former euphonium player, been playing trombone for like 15 years now so I have stupid fingers. This helped me IMMENSELY!

This excerpt was challenging for me because it’s fast and also has ALOT of notes, like it’s absurd the amount of notes there is on the page when you look at the section this is played at.

There are usually options with a trigger that can be used.

Use a Trombone with an F attachment, just know that using it with this excerpt is exponentially harder

Jim, you must buy a good mic. Recording on the mic of the smartphone is not a good idea
