  • This week we are almost knee deep in mud searching for tiny treasures and history! We find something which led down the rabbit hole of our countries obsession with tea!
We have a patreon page for anyone wishing to support us.
We also have a Ko-fi account, so if you wanted to support us by buying us a metaphorical cup of coffee it would be greatly appreciated xx

The disc with pins through it could be from a radio tube, possibly.
Coffee tables, at least here, are shorter than tea tables. We generally sit on a sofa and lean forward to put your coffee down on the table. It is not tall, so that you can watch TV from the sofa.

I absolutely love having afternoon tea out with my hubby! A dear friend in Plymstock prepared us a lovely to go tea when we left their home to return to London on the train. It contained a thermos of tea, a couple of homemade scones, some fresh strawberries, and a small jar of clotted cream. She packed plastic forks and knives as well as small paper plates and paper napkins, all packed carefully in a Sainsbury's insulated bag. So I loved hearing all about tea tables and their importance.

From the Boston Tea Party side of the ocean, we didn't object to the tea itself, but to being taxed upon taxed for it. Nowadays we just get taxed upon taxed for everything. And we still drink tea along with our coffee fixation. Most of our popular tea is iced though. Our Southern states built a whole tradition on sweet iced tea. 😊

As a child, in the pool, I would play tea party under water to see how long I could hold my breath. I played mother, and did it the English way, adding the sugar, then milk, then tea. If I could talk others to go under with me, I’d have multiple people to go through. They didn’t last long so I and my imaginary friends would go through the full ritual! I got pretty good at it.

Only a few finds in this weeks episode ladies, but always interesting. That little dark bead looked so interesting. Its always sad to see just one, when you know it would have been a string of pretties. Now mostly scattered and lost to the waves and mud. Ah but treasures still keep getting churned to the surface, to be found. All you need is eagle eyes to spot them. You ladies definitely have the eye to see them. Especially as there really was so much mud. It does make me wonder just how much has been lost lying beneath all that. The layers of history in there must be mind blowing.
Loved the tea sherd history including the tea table. The tradition we have for tea drinking, i think is well known in this country. It is the cure for everything. Any problems are solved over a good cuppa.
That is, if you like tea. 😅
Id love to see you mend some of your collected items. Would that sitting girl with no head you found, look ok sat at the top of the broken lamb piece? She could be watching over two baby lambs?
Find a head with a bonnet. Like Bo Peep. Just an idea. 🤔😊 x

Always love a visit from you two dear ladies. I thought the style of the figurine you found looked like dresden porcelain. They actually soak real lace in the pottery mixture and apply it, it burns out during the firing . May be totally off the mark, but that's what i was reminded of. The sherd story was fun. Just listening to you both cheers me up and relaxes me, and I really need that now. God bless.

The lace on the figure body is made by dipping cotton lace in liquid porcelain slip and hand applied in the greenware stage. When the figure is fired, the cotton burns away leaving delicate porcelain lace! The figures usually are marked Dresden.

Speaking of tea,I am currently enjoying a Sheng puerh from 1988!
    Sheng,or raw tea,it comes in a pressed cake,like a hockey puck.
You pry off about 5 grams, and brew it in a little Yixing clay tea pot, from which I will get about 15 steepings of beautiful tea,no milk,no sugar, just a strange chocolate note, like when you eat dark chocolate!
I bring my tea and teapot to England,as I will in September, there is a place in Greenwich that sells beautiful Puerh.
