  • My objective in this video is to determine if I can heat my two car garage with the Comfort Zone Industrial 5000w Heater. After installation (not shown in this video), I test the heater's efficiency by timing and tracking the temperature over a given period of time with multiple digital thermometers.

    I strongly recommend insulating your garage. It's currently 21 degrees outside but it's 54 degrees in my garage without the heater on. Insulated door (very important), walls, roof--and with a 1500 watt ceiling-mounted radiant heater on, it raises the temperature easily in about an hour and maintains it.

      @Daniel Bradford How would you insulate a garage door? Do I need a new door? I'm in the south Texas and was thinking I need a mini-split for air conditioning (and I suppose these units heat as well).

    Using a cheap box fan will minimize striation of air temperatur in the building.
    Two walls insulated is like a box with only two sides. If you have a man door, do a fan test on how well the building is sealed for air leahs, then seal those air leaks. The $100 price for the heater is minimal for all the extra kilowatts you will be purchasing with that much leakage and uninsulated square footage.
    If you aren't planning on staying long, great. Otherwise:
    -Seal it up
    -insulate
    - add a circulation fan in the opposite corner blowing downward to heat the whole building.
    Good video.

    I heat my insulated three stall garage with one of these but it needs a little help when it's real cold outside. Once the temps start to dip down into the low 20s, I use my 80,000 btu kerosene heater to bring the temp up to about 68 - 70 or so, (which takes a whole 15 minutes) and then the 5000w over head electric heater can maintain the heat from there usually. The kerosene heater never has to come back on unless it way below 0 outside. They work pretty good an if you clean them out periodically and lube the motor, they last for many years.

    I have the same heater in a 16 x 24 garage. Insulated door and ceiling. Walls are not insulated. In the 40's to 50's it heats up quickly to a comfortable temp. Colder I have the same issue. It's warm in the top of the garage but much cooler lower. When the temp is down in the teens and the garage is empty it just knocks the edge off. However my son changed his oil in there once in the teens and it was very comfortable. (Less air to warm maybe?). Got mine on a Black Friday deal a few years ago for about 80 bucks so really it was worth it.

      @captin2284 my 7.5kw electric heater heats my 18x20 garage very well. Heats up fast too. Only thing is the ceiling is high in there and the heat tends to stay up high. This trips the thermostat on the unit before it reaches temp at working level. I fixed the issue by setting the heater to 90°F shutoff. That makes it nice and cozy to work in a t-shirt even in the dead of winter.

    Ive discovered something rather recent. I live in the mid-west and I just need to keep a few plants from freezing going dormant ok. I happen to an inwall heater because my water softener is out there. But Im noticing that by simply parking my vehicle in there its much easier to heat, it is about a car and half size space . I mainly keep a temp monitor running for plants so I know how cold it is out there. Tonight it will get tested as outside air will go into the 20s F.

With an uninsulated garage, it looks like on those days, I might hope for it to get to around 10 if I'm lucky. That wouldn't help at all. Never mind the added electricity for no useful benefit.

    • @rupe53
      @rupe53 Před 3 lety

      Lloyd Roth
      ... the main problem with mounting a unit lower is all the crap the average guy has in the garage. (fire hazard) You can certainly mount it high and aim it to blow toward the floor. (recommended) The key to better comfort is usually more air flow than the heater can provide. IOW, a second fan (elsewhere) to push the warm air to the floor.
