So, finding natural greens isn't as difficult as I thought. Many thanks.
I can really see how much more interesting these trees are.
I see trees of green with a pallet of blue
I see colours mixed for me and for you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Anthony B haha 😆 underrated comment 👏
this gentlemen has provided me with more information on techniques and supplies than any other water color painter on CZcams. As a total beginner, I really appreciate him. God Bless..
Huge difference between mixed greens versus tube greens…much more vibrant
Still picking up the pearls you left in 2014! Thank you!
YOU have no idea how much I have learned in just 3 short videos. Thank YOU, Thank YOU, Thank YOU!
Billie Barton Glad to hear it!
True. No fun in just using premixed colors. I am sure we all just started mixing our owns at some point, even mixing premixed primary colors. Nice video. Playfull and easy to watch while having dinner
In addition to color variations, this video taught me a lot about painting trees.
I know Im asking the wrong place but does anybody know a method to log back into an instagram account?
I stupidly forgot my login password. I love any help you can give me!
@Jad Elon Instablaster :)
@Briar Damon thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
This channel has opened my wold more than any other! Thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU! ❤
You are so welcome!
John Constable, the greatest English landscape painter, achieved his naturalistic tree greens by using a mixture of lamp black (carbon black) with lemon yellow. This became known as "Constable Green". Rowland Hilder also used it to great effect.
I have used this mix to great effect in depicting deciduous woodland scenes of true veracity. As you mention your video, the addition of other yellows (I use cadmium yellow, medium and deep, and Naples yellow), greys (Payne's grey and neutral tint), and blues (ultramarine, Prussian blue and indigo), to add variation.
Sap green and olive green also feature in my palette but I invariably add highlights of the other colours to give extra interest.
Thanks! Great input!
Thanks for the tip, this sounds very interesting, I'm going to try that...! (4 years later...lol)
He is a phenomenal teacher
This is so great! I have to remind myself not to be afraid of adding "odd" colors and mixing on the paper, this inspires me to experiment more. Thank you!
***** Inspiration is good. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this guidance! I love foliage and I'm excited to try this!
Looked back at an old landscape painting today and it was completely saturated with sap green and a litte umber and ultramarine in the shadows. Took a while but I eventually learned how to use more colors to make other greens and it completely transformed the scenes and feelings of my paintings!
Thankyou....at last an amazing teacher! Really appreciate your commitment ! Namaste from India!
Thanks. I was just struggling with green today for a hummingbird. I'll try this.
You are so funny and cool.
Thank you for the lesson.
Fantastic informational video. I learned more in this few minutes than multiple classes.
I keep watching this video because I like it so much and I find it so helpful! Thanks!
The video is older, but I’m (one year) new to water color. I have professional grade hookers and sap greens in my palette, but have never been really happy with them. Your mixed palette makes so much sense, and isn’t at all complicated. I’ve learned so much from your channel. Tell Reese “hello”
Thanks so much for the support!
Things we knew, yet didn’t at the same time. *This really helped.* Even that range of blue on the left and yellow on the right - wow, mind blown, and that is such a rookie thing I should have known. I need a dish sized mixing palette vs. a little plastic space. Then, I would have learned that on my own. To dip into various shades along that line is the opposite of me trying to mix enough green, run out, try to mix the same green. I’m what happens when you have no lessons but you’re teaching me more and at my pace!! Thank you!
This has been such a helpful video! I kept searching for a better green for my palette but realize what I need is a better yellow 😂
Just the video that I needed to watch. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge 🙏
You are the best teacher thank you
So many watercolour tutorials on youtube, only few of them are actually useful. I learned so much from this, thank you
I have the worst trouble with green..and now I have a framework to play with. Thank you! (NC neighbor)
Best video ever, thank you!
One day I looked out my window and counted the different greens/shades of green...absolutely amazed me. I recommend it to anyone who wants a challenge. (In hearty agreement with your advice!!!)
Steve, I often go back and rewatch your videos when I get stuck. I gave been working on trees lately and this "mixing greens" was just what I needed to make my trees come alive. Thank you for the amazing effort you put into your channel. You have taught me so much!
Thanks Kathryn!
This makes SO much sense! Thanks, Steve!
This is very helpful! Thank you!
This basic method of color mixing has made a tremendous advance for me. Thank you.
+Robert Pedersen Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching.
Awesome video for me to see as a beginner (8 months of practice). I love painting foliage but it all turns out looking the same when I'm finished. Even if I start out with 5 or 6 mixed greens, they all end up flat. Thanks to this video, I will be trying the blues and yellows!!
Thank you so much for sharing - great advice.
This was a very interesting and informative video on mixing greens. Thanks Steve. 💞💫
I am experimenting with so many mixes of Green! Hey Reece! Thanks Steve!
Thank you for this video!!! I'm most definitely giving it a try!
I like it!...feels so much more creative & exciting!
I so enjoy your videos! You make me a better painter
Great class, fast, concise, fun, interesting. LOVE IT.
Thanks, Steve! Great advice!
This was one of the greatest lessons I've ever had. I am a very structured painter afraid of the "loose". I can't wait to try this. You are my new best friend. I am sooooo inspired. thanks.
+Nicole Curreri Haha! Well hello friend. Inspiration is good and what I'm all about. Thanks for watching!
You are fun guy, thanks for all your hints too!
Thank you so much for this wonderful video! I've recently started back with watercolor and discovered it's my absolute favorite medium to paint with. When I was younger I was very much into acrylics but as I've grown I've fallen in love, obsessively I might add with watercolor. I started watching your videos from the beginning and every day I can't wait to sit down and paint. It's also made my daughter who's a junior in high school sit and work on her art projects along with me. I paint mostly flowers, trees & landscapes but have challenged myself to paint other subjects as well and not fear 'mistakes'. Now, back to you and Reese!
Cool! Thanks Jeanann!
Wow. Such a difference. Thank you .
I've recently taken up watercolor as I felt that medium will help me to loosen up, i'm a pretty tightly wound person :-) I have experience with watercolor pencils, coloring in stamped images, nothing left to the imagination. I find myself trying to control the process, stiff hand and wanting to make it perfect the first time, and then I came across your videos this morning. Have watched several already. I really appreciated the one where you discussed how to not be afraid of making mistakes and work with the watercolor and see where it takes me. Your video instructions / demonstrations are amazing! You are a great teacher. thank you!
Thank you very much! Glad they're a help.
Thank you for this it makes the greens so lively and adds so much depth! So helpful!
On using greens, one could mix their tube green with a mixed green or another color for more variety-so you can use it and not throw it away.
Yes, definitely DON'T throw the tube greens away. I mentioned in a comment below that painting with tube greens is fine, just be careful when using lots of it. In a painting with a lot of trees or grassy areas it can look dull when you use one color. Mix it up!
This is an excellent video. I'm so happy I came across it. Now, there is hope for my greens!
Wow I like that! That is awesome!! Thank you very much.😊😘
Love this
This is what I needed now. Thank you for this wonderful tutorial :)
Thank you for getting me to re-evaluate my use of green in my paintings.
wonderful! I have been struggled with the color of the tree for so long, thanks for sharing this to us!
This is greatly helpful and such a fun exercise. Thank you!!
Just what I was struggling with this week, thanks.
Painting with pre-mixed green straight from a tube or pan is fine until you have to paint a lot of it. Learn how to create better greens from mixing them and keep them from looking boring, monochromatic and dead.
Great info ...thank youl.
So glad I watched this video! I'm going to try your spontaneous landscaping today!
Such a difference!! Thank you!!
Your approach gives life to your paintings. Far more interesting. All the years I've spent in classes and you share advice that draws the viewer into your beautiful work. Thanks!
I find your channel both amusing and helpful! Thank you so much for all the information.
Brilliant!
This is so helpful. Thank you .
Invaluable as ever. Thnx.
Thank you so much for your advice 🙏🏻
Simple, to the point, with enough demonstrations to prove your point. I like it! I've been giving this some serious thought and I was one of the many people who did use an actual green color on my foliage, plants, and nature settings. It works for me but it does become a little boring when you've done dozens of them. Thanks for the encouragement!
And using tube greens is fine if you vary them with other colors. Over use is exactly the problem because so much of it is needed in many landscapes.
Wow, never thought of this at all, thanks!
Extremely helpful, I understand more about uses of color in vegetation.
Hi. Thanks for this great input. I see a big difference in my landscapes with trees and foliage. 👍
one of my favorite lessons so far
I have been struggling with this. You are a tremendous help. Thank you.
The best watercolor channel ever! So encouraging for a beginner! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you sir!! 👍I hv learned a lot.
I was just wishing there was a way I could slow the video down and I thought wait, maybe I can and voila!!! This is such an amazing lesson!!!
Superb! Thank you once again what a difference it makes mixing your own greens. Loving your videos
Just awesome! So very helpful and informative... Thank you!
Always had a problem with green. This video was very helpful. Thanks!
WOW! This is really, really a great help! Thank you!!!
I am yet to visit your Patreon videos ! I can’t imagine what video content I am going to see there !!!! Thank you 🙏
Very cool Im off to try thank you !
wonderful, thanks 🙏
Thanks! I'll give it a try.
Wonderful tutorial! I love the way you actually showed us the palette and how you did the mixing on the palette - it really really helps. Thank-you!!
thank you very much for this escelent tutorial
Thanks! I always learn more from your watercolor painting videos than from anyone else's! Hope you and your family are having a great 2019!
Just wanted to say thanks for the incredible work and effort you put in to the channel making watercolours accessible to everyone. I love to draw but with your help i have dived in to colour and paint for the first time! Thanks
Thanks, welcome to the medium.
Steve, you are a great teacher. I am learning so much from your videos. Thank you.
Very useful information. I've been struggling with trees. This'll probably do the trick!
Really helpful!! Thanks!!
Very helpful, I appreciate all of your work
Excellent tutorial. Thank you.
This video is an answer to my prayers, literalIy. I've just begun to sell my work, but I've been totally stymied recently by two paintings, both of which have mixed green backgrounds. Both keep getting overwhelmed by unvaried green, and it's been driving me NUTS. Thank you!
Thank you I am learning and very helpful your courses to me...:)
- So much fun watching fellow artists mix their favorite greens! My "go to" mix is definitely New Gamboge + Neutral Tint in various values + Paynes Grey for the real dark shadows!
Great...thank you!
Another day of learning with THE BEST CHANNEL ON CZcams !!!
You are the best, man !
