Decorative pillows are “ridiculous and impractical.” HOWEVER, seeing them on my bed makes me happy. They tie together other elements in the room, making it feel cohesive and luxurious. I vote “yes” on pillows 😉

I used to be an "I must have decorative bed pillows, 6 deep" person. But, now I am a No to the clutter.
Recently, I changed my mindset, thanks to watching you. You have changed my lifestyle.
My home has been sooooo cluttered, with shistuff. I have been faithfully decluttering and reorganizing everything, from closets, cupboards, drawers, walls, pantry, craftroom (hubby calls it my craproom...) and even some of my beloved plants.
The decorative pillows on the beds have become the latest victims. I offer stuff to family, then friends, some goes on the curb (gone within the hour). Final place is my local Goodwill donation drop-off, except for plants, I don't do faux plants. And Goodwill doesn't take real plants.
It has been so liberating. I am slowly becoming happy and proud of my home, again. Thank you, Cas, for the help with your show and your CZcams channel!!!
So, sorry, I am no longer the YES to decorative pillows on the bed.

I LOVE your approach to "organize how your brain works". BINGO!!! Everyone one of us is unique and do things differently. So, if you know you do not like to fold clothes, do not set yourself up with a system that requires folding. It's a setup for failure. If you know you will kick your shoes off at the door, do not set yourself up with a shoe organizer that requires putting them away. Get a pretty basket by the door and kick your shoes off in there. Great ideas in this video! Love your channel!

I have solid neutral colors on the body pillows and, every day when I make the bed, I use them together with a couple functional decorative pillows that I use for reading. It makes the bed look nice and inviting. So for me, pillows need to be functional and attractive.

I’m entirely too lazy to take pillows off the bed and put them back on. They look cute, but I’m not going to do it. So I’m kinda on Joe’s side.
But I am 100% on your side on a garbage can. Tags on clothes, empty personal supplies (deodorant, lotion, etc.) are facts of life. I even have two garbage cans in my room, but to be fair, the one was added when I had to give a cat an ear cream using disposable gloves daily. I put a garbage can near there for convenience. (He slept on the bed so it was easiest to catch him there.)

My goodness, yes I forgot to agree on the garbage can issue when I commented on throw pillows :-). This might be a little ridiculous, but we have three trash cans in our bathroom, and two to three trash cans in our bedroom. Let me explain, lol I wouldn't say we have a massive ensuite, but it's not tiny. The thing is that we have two sinks in our master bathroom and then of course the toilet. And it's a very long skinny bathroom, so we each have a tiny trash can next to our sink and then there's one next to the toilet. And then there is a trash can on each side of the bed because...*blush* We have our dessert in secret at night in our room :-)

I made my decorative pillows practical. Small 10" pillows covered in something soft and comfortable, like Minky, are perfect for tucking between your knees to support your back while lying on your side. I use another one to prop up my head just a bit more while reading in bed. I’m absolutely a decorative pillow person. Growing up, my bedroom was themed like Jeanie’s Bottle from I Dream of Jeanie and Princess Jasmine’s cage bedroom in Aladdin. In one corner I had a huge purple floor cushion packed with tons of decorative pillows of all kinds of sizes, patterns, styles. And covering the whole thing I had a gorgeous, embroidered burgundy bed tent. My favorite part of my room. When I moved away from that theme, I still kept a lot of those beautiful pillows. Over the years, though, I’ve donated or had to trash because an animal got to a pillow. It’s sad to see them go, but it’s okay. Right now, I only have 3 of the 30 I started with. And I don’t think I’ll ever give them up because they are just too sentimental and big bonus....they still match my new bedroom theme!
I will say one thing... I don’t understand the people who don’t use the pillows as pillows. I mean, yes they are decorative but they are legitimate pillows. If you just want the decorative part, buy/make decorative pillow covers instead of the whole pillows and then you stuff the pillow covers with out of season clothes, old towels, plastic bags, whatever. And voila! A decorative pillow you won’t feel guilty about not actually using as a pillow.

Doesn't need to be emptied often as there are no food particles for bugs to get into and it's a niche use, but it's nice to have it there for random things you wouldn't think of too, so you don't have to leave the room to dispose of something. That said, it's not completely necessary, it's just what works best for me personally ^^

I also suffer with arthritis also. They help to relieve pressure and help the realignment of my spine so I can sleep better.

Two pillows are for my head when I sleep on my side. Two pillows are so that the angles of my legs don't make my hip hurt.
None are for decoration. I never "make" my bed. A lumpy pile of delicious softness is much more inviting.

I keep a folding luggage holder (like the kind in hotel rooms) next to my dresser to store my few decorative pillows overnight. During the day it works well for other things such as laying out a t-shirt that may not be completely dry from the dryer before putting in drawers. And when guests come, I take out a rolling file cabinet from the guest room and put the luggage rack there to let guests use it to hold their luggage. I remove extra decorative pillows from that room so guests aren't encumbered with little room to move in the small space and I use the rolling filing cabinet to hold my own bedroom decorative pillows temporarily. It works like a charm and for me a good small investment.
