    Great video. I was a former Marine in Okinawa in the 80s (I use to party at the E-club in Kadena) and now in the US Army in Korea. I am a Chief Warrant Officer with 26 years in service and three combat tours. My next assignment is my last. Keep it up and stay in as long as you can. Semper Fi.

    The difference between an E-3 in the Air Force and a E-3 in the Marines on Okinawa? The Air Force E-3 (A1C) has his own room and can drive and purchase a POV. Marine E-3 is riding the "Green Line" bus, has a roommate, doesn't have days off...must be granted "LIBERTY" for time off, single Marines must have a Battle Buddy while on Liberty while off base/off duty. Huge game-changer!

    I really like this vlog. I've already watched it twice strait through, because I'm struggling to decide if Marine or Airforce best suits me. I hope you can make videos with you two showing the pros & cons of each lifestyle. To me it seems marines are cool in the military scene and airforce is cool in the life-style scene. I don't like how pay is the same even if marines are treated like dirt while they risk their lives, while airforce keeps clean without touching the battleground. Where does this all weigh equally? What keeps marines motivated even if inequality treated?

    • @ChiefTomcat
      @ChiefTomcat Před 8 lety

      +Hakujin Mike No all Marine's are in the middle of the battlefield. Every branch of service has support guys and guys who are on the frontlines. Every branch has jobs that are easier than others and jobs that are suckier than others. I was an F-16 crew chief in the Air Force and we had to work 12 hour shifts and be out in the cold or heat getting jets in the air. I wasn't on the frontline, but we took a lot of indirect fire on the base. Being lower ranked you'll pretty much always get the sucky job, but as you progress and gain rank you can make the difference in how subordinates are treated. I got out as a Staff Sergeant, I never forgot where I came from and I always treated the guys with the respect that they deserved. Hope this helps a little.

      @Unmedicated_Moments Před 8 lety +2

      +Addison Sarter They aren't choosing to go die. They are serving their country and showing that they would truly die for it. Some go for the experience, some go for the brotherhood. All do it because they love their country.
      Airmen typically get desk jobs and sit around all day. They aren't risking their lives. Pilots, Jtac, and Pararescue do though. That's small compared to the Army and Marine MOSs that put your life on the line.

    • @Pasaria
      @Pasaria Před 9 lety

      Since Kyle hasn't answered this yet, yes you can take classes. While I'm on the subject, if an Airman wants to use any Tuition Assistance (currently $4500 per fiscal year for tuition costs, fees aren't covered anymore), they need a passing PT test, supervisor's approval, and typically have to be finished with their CDCs and upgrade training (which takes a year after they get to their first base). They're free to take the classes out of their own pocket if they don't want to use TA.
      No idea how the Army handles this, although I do know of several soldiers who are taking classes right now so it's definitely possible.
      Damn, I kinda sound like a recruiter...oops...

      I think in the Okinawa bases there are 4 University/Colleges where you can do online classes for certificates, bachelor's and post graduate degrees. I know two of them are University of Maryland and University of Phoenix. :)

      I had a student teacher who was in the Army. He talked about an Amrt exclusive program called "green to gold" although it might be officer exclusive. Do a little research to see what it's about if you want to learn more.

      Kyle Merkle The short answer is .. yes. You can use TA after your fist year assuming you have no disciplinary issues. Most commanders like it if you have already completed SSD1. Aslo you dont HAVE to take classes online. Most stations have satellite school from actual universities at the education center. The bigger posts Conus have major universities. I know Bragg has UNC, Schofield has HPU.

    Guam is pretty cool. I was in the Navy and was stationed there at the Naval Air Station. That base was closed down after I left the Navy. But basically, the Naval Air Station moved to Andersen Air Force base. I love their PX and Tarague Beach at the northern end of the base.

    Very stuck in making a decision right now. I want to go to the military but my education is the most important to me. How would u describe the time to do college. I plan on going to the corps and working in intelligence ... I've read they work until 5 , would I still be able to take classes and get a bachelors in 5 years ? I'm a pretty humble person and my work comes first

      +jocelyn rodriguez the Air Force is the closest to civilian life. It's the most relaxed branch if your main goal is to study. Also, let them pay for it. Don't get into debt. If you did come in with a degree, they don't allow you to get another degree if you happened to want one. So you would have to wait until your contract was up and use your GI Bill. Which could be frustrating.
      Had a co-worker who came in enlisted with a bachelors and was not allowed to pursue another degree while active duty.

    • @harambe2130

      It depends on what you want to do. The Army has more careers but you will most likely be deployed longer. The Navy has shorter deployments(correct me if I'm wrong) but has fewer jobs(again, correct me if I'm wrong) and you will be most likely be deployed on a ship. So, there are a few variables. But if you want to take the combat route(but not infantry), Artillery or Military Police would be best if you want to see combat but not go to infantry. For Navy, Corpsman(medic in the Navy, can be deployed w/ Marines) is a good choice. If you want to be an officer, you might be able to join an ANGLICO. It's a group of mostly marines w/ some Navy officers that calls in air/artillery.

      Not true. Entry level PT standards for the Marine Corps are 1.5mi in under 13:30. 2 pull ups. And 44 crunches 2mins. Regular PT eval is 3mi 22mins, 25 pull ups/ 2min flexed arm hang, and 150 crunches under 2mins.
