Personally, although I love my mother, I will never let her manipulate me like this. I know tradition or religion has taught and conditioned many Africans to respect or venerate their parents and many have grown to fear that they might get cursed should they not obey their parents. Personally, I reject many aspects of tradition and religion that don't make sense to me; including obedience or submission to manipulative parents. I don't have to live a life designed for me by my parents.

I know I'm really late responding to this after nine years, 😂, but you just said the truth, and I wholeheartedly agree with you. not just manipulative parents, manipulative people too. as for getting cursed, that's just BS, especially if you're doing the right thing, and standing your ground. I also agree with you on rejecting tradition and religion that doesn't make sense; almost all of African tradition, especially Nigeria's, doesn't exactly make sense, and it's not wise to let tradition and/or religion becloud common sense.
