    The experiment with the point on a rotating disc in linear motion suggests on first sight that there are constantly changing accelerations acting on the point which a person at this point certainly would feel. But is this claim true? Let’s do the calculations:
    Lets calculate the acceleration of a point on the equator as seen from the sun, i.e. the earth is rotating with an angular velocity ω and at the same time moving approximately linear with velocity u in the x direction (to get the same situation like in the experiment we consider x and u point to the left). The y direction is up. Let’s see whether the resulting acceleration should be felt. What do Newtons equation of motion predict?
    The motion of a point on the equator is a combination of a rotation around the center of the earth and the linear speed and can be described by the following equations of motion (t=time, R=Radius of the earth):
    x = R cos(ω t) + u t
    y = R sin(ω t)
    Now to get what acceleration the point would feel we have to take the derivative of this equations twice:
    Velocity is the first derivative:
    v_x = dx/dt = R ω (-sin(ω t)) + u
    v_y = dy/dt = R ω cos(ω t)
    And finally the acceleration is the second derivative:
    a_x = dv_x/dt = R ω^2 (-cos(ω t))
    a_y = dv_y/dt = R ω^2 (-sin(ω t))
    Note, the linear speed has no acceleration component left. The only acceleration that resulted from this motion is the centripetal acceleration from the rotation. It has a constant magnitude of a = R ω^2 = 0.0337 m/s^2 and points always towards the center of the earth.
    In the reference frame of the rotating point the centripetal acceleration turns into a centrifugal acceleration. So a person on the equator will register a constant acceleration upwards of 0.0337 m/s^2, no matter how fast the speed of the earth is around the sun or through the galaxy.
    That’s what the laws of physics predict and that’s exactly what we can observe. This acceleration can and has been measured. Flat earth can’t explain this fact.
    Can we feel this constant acceleration of 0.0337 m/s^2 pointing always in the same direction (up) relative to a person on the equator? Nope.
    So this experiment does not disprove the heliocentric model, at all. It only demonstrates that flat earthers have no clue about physics, but think they are smarter than all astronomers and physicists. That’s called the Dunning/Krüger effect 😅
    We can prove this result easily: Strap an accelerometer (e.g. a smartphone) on a wheel and recorded the acceleration. Make the experiment so that the wheel is laying on the ground so that the acceleration of gravity is perpendicular to the acceleration we want to measure and we can simply ignore this component. Physics and I predict that the phone will register a constant centrifugal acceleration, nothing else.

      @murquhart86 Před 4 měsíci

      @@murph8411I’m pretty late to the party. But I’m pretty sure you’re largely correct.
      The moon’s orbit undergoes something called nodal precession about once every 18.6 years. What that means is, to your point, the max 5° inclination point in the moon’s orbit does not always occur during the solstice. That point slowly rotates, so the window for “eclipse season” is not the same date range every year, it shifts.
      If you look at the list of solar eclipses over time, you will notice that in the early 2000’s, around the June 21, 2001 date he alleges is the impossible eclipse, for several years, almost every single solar eclipse occurred near a solstice. In 2001 and 2002, all solar eclipses were in June or December, and then in 2003 that shifted to May/November eclipses.
      I only just saw this debate, but this question was driving me a little crazy so I had to dig into it. Before now, I really didn’t know too much about eclipses, so I’m at least a little glad that watching flat earth debates helped me learn a little more about orbital mechanics. 😅

      It wouldn’t really matter if they used linear speed as it should still have the earth and the moon moving together around the sun. Making it appear as if the earth shoots off around the sun and the moon should be racing to catch it up and then applying that to the whole solar system is a common flat earth ridiculous claim. They just don’t understand reference frames even when people try to give them simple analogies like walking, jumping or throwing a ball on a plane or other vehicle.
      The graphic may be from a “heliocentric” webpage but it’s still a vast oversimplification since they don’t want to confuse the general public.
      I mean the moon orbits earth at only 5 degrees but the graphic shows a very close moon which is orbiting in a circular orbit and at fixed positions at certain times of the year. It also looks like it’s tilted more than 5 degrees. The actual lunar orbit isn’t circular or in sync with the earths orbit around the sun.
      The fact when they are asked how these curved paths for eclipse shadows all over earth can work on a flat plane they say it’s simple but just waffle some words with no actual explanation shows they don’t actually have any idea.

    The diagram and argument at 48:00 is so dumb, you guys completely missed the point of their "Debunk" and started talking about totality, umbra, and penumbra. Their claim is that the earth is orbiting the sun at 67000mph, and the moon is orbiting the earth at 2300mph, so the combined speed of the moon against the earth should be 69300mph. They're conveniently ignoring the fact that the moon is also orbiting the sun at that same 67000mph, since it's part of the earth-moon system.

    How the hell could heliocentrism have anything to do with Kabbalism? Kabbalism was a late medieval (13th century) development in Jewish Talmudic mysticism, drawing much on Sufism and probably originated in Andalus (now Spain and Portugal). That was about 1,700 years after heliocentrism was first realised and proposed (at least by people who could write, such as Philolaus - almost certainly earlier by various "sea peoples" who had no writing).
    It was over 300 years after Ibn Al-Haytham conducted what we nowadays call a meta-analysis of all the available work from astronomers over many centuries, including manuscripts from India, Greece, Rome and China as well as Arabia, North Africa and Persia, plus his own observations, to see if he could definitively conclude the geocentic v heliocentric arguments. He concluded that heliocentrism was a possibility, but there was insufficient evidence to adopt it definitively.

      Not only that but Jesuits had been around long before Newton, something like a 100 years. Newton had some weird ideas but I’m pretty sure he wasn’t a catholic priest that founded the jesuits while also being a raging homosexual that forged (faked?) gold.
      He was apparently strange, difficult to get along with and may have died a virgin.
      It’s crazy that they say periscopes, gyroscopes, lighthouses and sun dials can’t work on a globe! I’d like to see the explanation for that unless they go back to their huge hump in the sea idea and that sudden, miles high hump they imagine would hide lighthouses and periscopes?
      Gyroscopes I can’t imagine unless they think the earth moving or gravity would stop them working? Maybe they should have a look at Foucault’s gyroscope?
      I’m not sure how sun dials can work if the sun isn’t real and moves as the observers location moves in their flat earth. I’d like to see some calculations for how it works on their flat earth but not on a globe.

      Totally ignoring that the vanishing point is the point when an object’s angular size becomes too small for you to resolve and funnily enough a huge building will vanish much further away than a box of matches therefore you have no “vanishing point” per se and therefore ronnie’s circle of sight doesn’t definition doesn’t make sense.
      What’s even worse is he goes on to say the higher up you go the further you can see because your circle of sight gets bigger (yes it’s because you can see over the feckin curve) and this also happens in reverse somehow in that the ships masts circle of sight also gets bigger (even though that makes no sense as it’s not seeing).
      All this just is exactly as you’d expect on a globe as the altitude of the observer and/or object increases but Ronnie just states his nonsensical circle of sight increases for both people and objects without any explanation.
