You might assume that a family with an income of $20000/year can pays all their bills, and have money leftover. Not true. Americans are in debt.
I am wealthy, and have been stuffing envelopes for about 30 years. I refer to envelopes as my "no surprise budget". Example: need $700 for a root canal? No problem. I have $700 in my "medical" envelope.

You do need to separate your money and your babies money. I know as a mum myself it’s so easy to just buy stuff for them and put yourself on the back burner. If you don’t want to use to much by all means only save £20 but it’s good to also spoil yourself, mums do so much for their kids.

I agree, my husband went back after I finished. I worked 1, sometimes 2 part time jobs throughout to help pay for daycare. We were eligible for federal and state grants and it made the most sense to start at the community college to knock out the core classes then I used a program to transfer all the credits into a bachelors program. Graduated with a masters degree with just over $25,000 in loans which we are working on knocking out. Good luck and keep going!

A hint that I would like to share is that some companies have “education” programs where they may pay a portion or entirety of a certificate or degree in that field. So, it might be worth it to look into the benefits of the companies you are applying to. A co-worker at an old job in the health field started as a Secretary and got part of her College Bachelors degree paid for by the company. Some industries to look at for that benefit would be healthcare or public health, finance, and early childcare/education and others.

Great video. If you have credit card debt sitting at a high interest rate you may want to consider putting all your paycheck onto the credit card except for the money you need for rent or other things you can't pay with a credit card. Then use the credit card to buy all of the things you need when you need them still following your budget. This way that cash is working for you paying down the amount of money that is accruing interest instead of sitting in an envelope waiting to be used.Still allocate to each envelope the amount you have for that item but just write it down in envelope but put the actual money on the credit card. Then only spend that amount. I know some people don't like to use credit cards but as long as you keep paying more money on it than what you spent last month you won't accrue new interest and you will pay the balance down faster. Just a suggestion. You are doing great as you are.

Australians pay $5.90 for most medications on our PBS Government subsidy scheme thru our universal healthcare, Medicare.
I just...wish you all could have our lifestyle. Fantastic minimum wage (high cost of living but at least we get paid adequately at the least), healthcare provided, & if you don't have a permanent job but work work casually the hourly rate is even higher to account for the holidays you're not getting paid for (4 weeks per year minimum here).

I thing that this is a great thing for people of any age to learn for them to be responsible with their money. Even if you're not low income, I think that seeing how low income families manage can help us learn to manage our money in a case in which money may be short, such as in a recession.

You are the first youtuber I have watched the ads all the way through! Its hard for me I am impatient, lol, but you are very strong to be low income and manage to save all that money for various expenses. You are proof its not what you make but how you spend/save it!

I just found this video and I positively love it. I really think this system is something my daughter could benefit from and I just ordered some supplies to get her started. This is this kind of information and instruction I think should be taught more in high schools. My kids can do Calculus but don't know how to balance a checkbook or create a financial plan and budget. Excellent video, please continue to make them. :-)

I love this! A lot of ppl can have more money but cannot budget so their money goes down the drain. I would consider myself low income since I make less than $40k a year but I am alone and suck at budgeting. I blew $600 on food/going out. I do spend more on food Bc I believe high quality food will lower my health expenses but I could be doing so much better. I love this method and will be trying it. I don’t envelope stuff but I do have 4 bank accounts that I will separate money with. Thank you for the inspiration.

So does everyone who budget like this, always pay in cash at the store. Because it kills me to see how much cash back you are missing out in by using a rewards credit card. This is why I wish there was some sort of app where you could do this virtually through your bank. Does anyone know of an app like so

    • @priskruger314

You could deposit your savings. Use them to get the cash back. And then at home add up all the cash and deposit it back once a month. As pinkxbudgets does.

I’d say try to find a higher paying job without a degree and work your way up. Branch out to other fields. My fiancé and I got into assembly fields and got training on the job for positions we like. We both went to college and regret that we did. Experience is what employers are looking for. If you still decide on school just be sure the field is what you want.

I don't know why, but this is so satisfying. I think it's so aesthetically pleasing and crisp. It's so great how you manage the low income; it's very admirable. I also don't know why, but it also makes my heart hurt. Kind of makes me realize how privileged I am for myself, but I do understand the low income ride as a college student. I just don't have as many responsibilities as you do

We make just under $2,000 every 2 weeks. I work 13 hours a week to pay for vacations/fun and the kids daycare, also go to college full time. I've never thought we were low income... (We are from a small town in OH so cost of living may differ from most and we paid off our home last March so that saves us $680 a month.)
