People don't realise how much he changed things behind the scenes. He is a sports scientist and the analysis and backroom staff he brought in was second to none. Liverpool was stuck in the past. He is a much bigger loss than any player. No other manager could have done what be did. Most just take easy jobs at rich clubs who had won a lot of recent titles.

Its thrown around a lot these days but Klopp truly is irreplaceable. Managers like him are once in a generation. Until Jurgen I had never seen a Liverpool manager have such a strong connection to the fans and the city in my lifetime. I'm a younger Liverpool fan so I never knew what it was like when Shankly, Paisley and Dalglish all unexpectedly stepped down but I'm guessing this is pretty much what it felt like
Fair play to him for leaving on his own terms though. Aside from SAF, a lot of other great PL managers were either brilliant managers who left/were sacked very early into their tenures (Mourinho and Ranieri) or were at one point great managers who overstayed their welcome (Wenger)

Get your point but Klopp`s influence on Dortmund and Mainz where he also stayed for 7-8 years, lasts until today. Mainz, a club which a never played in the top flight before is still a Bundesliga club since he brought them there 20 years ago. And Dortmund an average Bundelsliga club coming from a huge crisis finishing 13th in the leauge is Germanies number two since he left more than a decade ago. One of the special things about Klopp is that he changes the culture of a club, which lasts even beyond his stay. I think you shouldnt be too worried. Besides, Alonso has the highest point average in bundesliga history and is a liverpool legend, there really couldnt be a more worthy successor imo.

Alonso is a huge gamble. The modern game is full of sensationalism; it's mad that a manager with only 18 months of top-flight experience is getting linked with Liverpool. No doubt, he has what it takes to be a top manager, but is he ready for a club like Liverpool after Klopp? He's done a great job at Leverkusen, but look at the results; lady luck has been on their side, and don't forget he was relegated with the Real Sociedad B team. I'm not trying to take anything away from him, but it's a huge risk. @@davidh.3287

What some rival fans don't understand is - he is not just a manager, he's the head of a family he created. Not just the players but with the people working at the training ground, the stadium, the fans in Anfield and the fans around the world. Not many managers can do that. A lot of other teams have more of a work environment, not a family environment. This was special. How do you replace that?

Roberto De Zerbi is the only manager who can replace Klopp's kind of football, which shifted from quick transitions to progressive possession futbol with Fabhino & Firminho at the helm & now to a mixture of both styles with MacLister at the pivot. Klopp was all about tempo & intensity & as an Arsenal fan, i feared them more than city. I have never seen a team whose base is transition become so adept at possession, especially when Van Dijk signed. (Real possession, not Unai Emery measured kind) De Zerbi has also shifted from heavy possession to an an interpid mixture of quick transition with possession fundamentals. Futhermore, De Zerbi, with his Italian pedagocal base, can improve players technically in the same way Klopp was able to marry the athletic and aesthetic. Not surprised to see Llana and Milner shift to Brighton. The only other manager i can see is Unai Emery. Xabi Alonso is not the guy because his brand of futbol has more of a La Liga sensibility and tempo.
The main issue with Klopp is that his futbol was perfect for the Anfield crowd, an almost perfect marriage and it will be difficult to find that tempo of futbol ever again. He's quite singular, an august manager whose futbol i will miss.

Good comment, but I'm not sure about Emery and De Zerbi, although I like what both of them are doing.
De Zerbi coached underdogs so far. At LFC he would play more tough games across all competitions. Expectations would be much much higher and there is no time to lose in PL, switch coaches every two seasons etc.
Emery has more experience in Europe...but I think Alonso would be the best option.
He was coached by elite and played against all types of teams. So did many others but Alonso reminds of Pep /Zidane type of coach for some reason, I am not saying he is at that level yet. Emery spent most of his time in Spain and adapted to PL tempo - so could Alonso, it might take a little more time but it takes something extra to be a LFC coach I think.
Vidic said that the main problem with Moyes was not his football coaching, it was his stance, his energy, that's why I think Alonso would blend in better than the other two.

See what happened when Dalglish and Ferguson left Liverpool and Man-United respectively.

The way he involved himself with the club, changed the way the game is played, inspired his players and galvanized the supporters was unique, inspiring and immensely satisfying to see over his time at LFC.
There have been and are presently many great football managers in the world - and then there is Jurgen Klopp. Whatever he does with his career or life after the end of this season I do hope the public if not the supporters of Liverpool still get to experience his wisdom, his creativity and his ability to bring the best out of people. Look at all the awful decisions that have not gone in Liverpool’s favour example VAR decisions example Luis’s goal against Spurs that was ruled offside when even a blind man could see Luis was never off side, then the poor 2022/2023 season after Liverpool were on for a quadruple as they are now and what away to walk away from Liverpool.
Yet for me winning the Premier League would be his greatest achievement since joining Liverpool in October 2015 he truly has my full backing and fully deserves all the plaudits that come his way.

I think he'll take time out for sure and then take the Germany Job as one last career move. International management doesn't come with the daily stress. It's now and again training sessions with players with friendlies then obviously the qualifying games for tournaments and the tournaments themselves. It's only intense when the international stuff surfaces.
I won't be at all surprised if he never manages a club again.
It is going to be very strange not having him in our dugout and on the touch line from next season showing so much passion, enthusiasm and emotions. I've never seen anyone quite like him.
I'm reluctantly going for Alonso to take over. I say reluctant due to his very short life experience as a manager. But, what he's doing at Leverkusen is phenomenal. They're on course for a first league title. If he wins that then I guess he's a big draw for us. I've not seen Leverkusen play but from reports I've heard and read, they play some really good stuff.

I feel how Carragher sounds. Sadness and disbelief. He was my generation Shankley or Paisley but very different. We will miss his heavy metal football. Klopp deserves to sit on a beach in Bora Bora and chill for as long as he wants. He earned his break. Let talk about six YNWA

@ZiloBalo I have been fortunate enough to meet him as I live here and go to the games and I can tell you he is a genuine, warm and caring man. I told him something a bit sad and he grabbed my arm and started pulling silly faces into my phone camera to cheer me up! There were no TV cameras only my phone one and I still have the silly faces he pulled to try to cheer me up saved, it was cold, it was late and his wife was waiting in their black opel car smiling over. All done because he's kind. Am happy to hear you are raising your kids with a big heart like his. YNWA
