  • This is a great practice for those just learning or new to tai chi, filmed in my 2010 Tai Chi Circling Hands retreat in South France. This easy practice will help you develop circularity, which obliterates inertia and lulls the mind into a state of letting go. You can achieve deep relaxation in a matter of minutes ... in body and mind.
You can learn the 7 Circles of Tai Chi in my online course:

I watched Bruce's video too. I don't understand the purpose of this exercise. As Bruce points out, these circles already exist in tai chi et al. With regard specifically to tai chi, I am not familiar with Wu style, but in Yang style the three circles are in the first set and repeat over and over again throughout the form. This is a question, not a criticism.

The purpose of the Tai Chi Circling Hands set is to hardwire
into your body motion circularity on all planes in all directions. When you
have achieved this (at least to some degree), you will start to notice how
linear your tai chi form (or other internal art practice) actually is, and can
then go about the process of eradicating all straight lines generated by
reciprocal inhibition of your muscle groups, which has no place in any internal
art. Hope this helps! Good luck with your practice, Paul
