My favorite obscure tidbit comes from a letter your mom sends you in Animal Crossing GameCube. She says something about being confused why you went to go live with animals, ending the letter with, "don't they smell?" Are the animals in Animal Crossing segregated from humans? There's a lot to think about.

my favourite one is from a smug villager in happy home designer. if you talk to him while he's reading he might say something along the lines of:
"I was okay with the localisation of this manga until they started talking about donuts. Yeah right, as if Captain Raisubooru would be caught dead eating donuts!"
Raisubooru = rice ball. This is literally a reference to that infamous moment in Pokemon!
Oh my god!! I didn't play HHD that extensively, so I never got that dialogue!! That's HILARIOUS!!

It's ten years later and I still really want to know what happened to the person who was *actually* supposed to become mayor in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
Someone has vanished, your character is the only one who knows about it, and eventually the town _will_ find out.
The theory is that it was Rover who was supposed to be the mayor and for some reason decided he would push the title off to an unwitting passenger on the train.
i was thinking about this one too! my thought was always Rover (like mentioned above) because he was the only other one on the train with our character, but ig there’s no way of fully knowing

My favorite AC lore deep cut in ACNH is actually the bottom photo at the Roost of Blathers and Brewster in the park. It's based on a dialogue with Blathers in Wild World. He'll tell you about the time he couldn't get anywhere with his dissertation and he drifted from café to café until he ended up in on "in a park surrounded by skyscrapers" where he met Brewster who told him that "nothing is sadder than a rushed cup of coffee" which gave Blathers the patience to let the writing flow naturally. They have been friends ever since and that photo is taken in that park. You can see the skyscrapers in the back. :) (also, Lyle tried to sell an insurance to Brewster in Wild World and Blathers threw Lyle out of the museum bc Brewster isn't good at spotting grifters.)

I LOVE the dynamic between Blathers and Brewster. They are SO CUTE!!! I actually ship the two of them, but sadly that seems to be a rarepair since there's not much content about the ship. I'd kill for some good fic about the two of them!!

Not a lore per se, but a 4th-wall break, is when Hopkins (so I assume also other lazy villagers) in ACNH told me once that he thought he lived in a simulation, and started questioning stuff like "why do trees have 3 different kinds of wood?" and how Tom Nook´s business works oddly etc. xD I was really shocked when I got that dialogue tbh. Then he just shrugged it off xD

There was a reference to Reese & Cyrus before the update where they got added to Harv's Island. I cannot remember which character said it and in what context but there was a line of dialogue that went "Hm alpacas?! I always thought they were pink and blue..."

Something I just noticed but in retrospect is pretty obvious is that most of the TV channels you can watch in AC star humans. This combined with Mabel's mention of specifically porcupine starring shows makes me wonder if there are certain channels, and places (what with Resettii's mole spa place and the player's mom in the original AC thinking it's weird that you live with animals) specific to certain animals, and if places like your town and the city in City Folk are considered weird for having a variety of species.
My favorite piece of lore is Goldie having a crush on the Labrador from the Nintendogs box. I think she mentions it in Wild World or it's the inscription on the back of her photo or something.

my favourite piece of obscure lore involves my favourite villager, pietro, and the face paint teardrop under his eye. in the real world, people get teardrop tattoos as a symbol to say that they have killed, done time in prison or have been humiliated. so either he's murdered somebody or have deep trauma from prison or being badly humiliated in some way, or a mix of them.
I can only imagine the poor guy as being humiliated, but I'm sure he also got tear face paint because of the other two reasons, thinking they'd be HILARIOUS with his clown aesthetic.

one bit of lore i love and think a lot about is about reese and cyrus and how they met. in happy home designer, they have dialogue over how they met and i was shocked the first time i saw it because it was so unexpected of them (well... reese especially.) both were delinquents (or "wild" as reese puts it), having met when reese was hanging out near where cyrus and his bike gang were. turns out that they both caught each other's eyes. cyrus, being distracted by reese, then drove and hit into something and she ended up taking him to the hospital and they started dating. which is so wild to me that the most domestic couple used to be a bad boy and bad girl duo.
It's no surprise Cyrus used to be a delinquent giving his attitude and hair style, but Reese being one too is a surprise

There’s no question that CJ is a streamer online-as embarrassing as it is to admit, I read _all_ the dialogue _every_ time out of debilitating compulsion and he doesn’t just make stream ‘puns’.
Every time you give him more fish he praises you for “keeping his viewers happy,” his first dialogue of the day mentions “coming at you live from…uh, right in front of you!”, he’s been “trending in a HUGE way” and I distinctly remember him using the words ‘livestream’ and ‘followers’ (and even referencing E-sports, confirming internet??) the first time I met him. Plus he constantly has his phone out lol, if he was just obsessed with a literal stream he would have no reason to take a hundred photos of himself and us when we’re not even near a stream or holding our fish 😅
edit: I found a video of someone’s first time meeting CJ and I was remembering right, his introductory dialogue includes:

I can't remember where I heard it but apparently there is dialogue in ACNL where Mr. Resetti calls you a "No Good Time Traveler". I never got it personally but it sounds cool.

I always thought definitely yes there are places actually called Anytown and Anyisle. I always imagine they’re towns and islands using all the default type styles in mostly basic intended ways, and of course the villagers will rant and rave about how wonderful “Door Template” and “Clothing Pattern” are.
In French, default patterns are from "Chépaki de Chépaou" ("I don't know who from I don't know where") and in Happy Home Designer, random characters are designed as wood cats and called "Chépaki". So I think it's an unknown and anonymous character.
I have a headcanon that the city that's referenced a lot in the older animal crossing games is actually the same place where the Farway Museum from GCN is located, and that the city itself is called Farway.

I want an Animal Crossing game with Moppina. For the unaware, Moppina is a character mentioned in Wild World and maybe City Folk, usually in a conversation between a normal and peppy villager. I believe there's a few variations of this conversation, but in short: Moppina is a mop that the normal villagers are "friends" with, getting offended when Peppies call her an 'it', as Moppina is a she. Moppina lets the normal villagers try out different hairstyles on her and talk to her... which is kinda depressing, honestly, but the Peppy villagers then change their tune and say that Moppina seems nice.
I just want an Animal Crossing game where this sentient mop can be a villager. I'd like that.
In the game Fragile Dreams for the Wii, there's a bunch of letters left behind by people who went through an apocalypse. I remember one was someone who didn't care enough about the main character of an RPG they were playing, so they just named them "AAAAAA", and they talk about now that they're facing their own mortality they feel bad about abandoning AAAAA in the middle of the game and never saving the world (or something like that, it's been a while since I've played the game).
Anyway, i guess it's a common joke or trope that when a Japanese person is being lazy and have to name something in a game they just type a bunch of As?
Maybe the "AAAAA" town was something that one of the Devs named their town, and put it in the game as a joke

I think the obscure thing I find funny that wasn’t in this is Moppina, an unseen character in Wild World that’s just a mop normal villagers turned into a makeshift friend due to being shy that all the normal villagers in town talk to & try hairstyles on. She’s even mentioned in Maple’s Wild World photo quote.

The way I see time in animal crossing is that the real timeline is happening when the most recent game is… the most recent. Like right now we’re living in real time, but when the next game comes out, it kinda halts in time if that makes sense. It’s no longer moving forward, you’re now just living the last day over and over again. Kinda eerie but that’s how I see it.

My understanding was animal crossings games take place in dark world from LoZ Link to the past. Just like how all the monsters are the warped versions of evil people, the AC games take place in another part of the world and all animals are happy reflections of good people. Remember Link became a bunny. And in wildwood he is a wolf villager and Gannon is a pig villager.
Sometimes on your TV in ACNH, you can see some scenes at Isengard from Fellowship of the Ring. 😮

The AC lore is always interesting
One thing I liked about ACNL and other old AC games was the plethora of Nintendo-themed items. For example, all the things you could get with fortune cookies and the special Wii U, 3DS and Amiibo item sets that could only be obtained by playing very well on your 3DS or Wii U in-game. The only Nintendo-related items I know of in NH are the Mario set (which is always openly available to buy) and the Switch consoles. Nothing special to achieving them, just buy them with bells. Kinda feels less special. And dang it, I think most of us just want to be able to have all the cool items from Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, Nintendogs, Pikmin, etc. In the newest game. Is that too much to ask for? Lol

Halfway into this video, and so far, there's no actual lore. It's just, "A villager says this, so that might mean something." Dude, we know this stuff. Anyone who's read the dialogue knows this stuff. "There are TV shows that the animals watch" isn’t exactly deep lore so much as it's a fun bit of world-building... And again, it's dialogue that pretty much everyone has read at some point. There's deeper lore in this comment section than in this video.
