    By the end of the day that weight had been SMASHED 9 TIMES!
    All the Deadlift GREATS of that year were there. FELIX, HOLLANDS, SHAHLAEI...
    And BRIAN SHAW!

    Brian Shaw is amazing. Great competitor and just keeps on going. At his peak, he is def one of the 4-5 best to ever compete, and his longevity in the sport, especially at the highest levels is incredible. Not my favorite to watch, but I appreciate his consist approach and the way he just goes to work doing the nigh impossible.

    I hope people wont confuse this with the actual wr at the time. Its the strongman wr, Andy Bolton already pulled over 1000 lbs in 2007. I think benny also did beat andy’s record in 2011. But not exactly sure, still amazing to see so many guys hit those numbers in a competition at the same time then.

      Straps do make a huge difference. I could pull about 100 lbs. more with straps than I could at a PL meet without them. But even with wraps and hitching the bar; the weights they are pulling today deserve all their due respect. I was glad to hear the commentator noting the difference in the two types of deadlifts. Much appreciated.

      But... the 500 kg was done with a single-ply and elephant bar. A 900-930 lb raw deadlift would already be a difficult feat even for the most successful strongmen.

      Tbor trained specifically for the deadlift for months to get that. I'm not even sure Shaw could get it if he trained specifically for it.

      @@duskyracer8800 I really doubt Shaw could. Even when he was younger and 100%. Definitely not now. In fact before Eddie pulled 500 Shaw said he thought around 480 was the absolute max of human potential, perhaps he knew his own limitations and there was some slight arrogance there.

    I recently saw a video in which Cailer Woolam sumo-ed something like 420kg. Dude was competing in the 220lb category I think i.e. nowhere near strongman physical proportions. Absolutely insane just how much the standards have improved in just the last decade.

      @@mv1991 Nahhh. There are limits to what the human body can do, we will inevitably hit those limits one day. Likely soon. I don't think 600kg will ever be done by a human, that isn't modified in some way.

      @@thehutch4823 Except it is physically impossible for the human frame to hit 600kg. It's past the point of our skeletal limits. Even 500kg is pushing it, there is a reason it takes genetic freaks at the pinnacle of human potential to do it. The average human body isn't designed to even lift past 450kg, hence why so few even get up to 460kg after years of training.

      @@tylerrobbins8311 Again, that is what they said about running, that is was physically impossible to run under a 4 min mile, yet the record is 3:43, It is impossible to run a marathon under 2 hours, yet they are getting closer and closer, at 2 hours and 2 minutes it is not suddenly possible. It was impossible to lift 500kg yet, it was done. We can not put limits on our bodies, because the limits are being broken all the time. What happens when someone with osteopetrosis starts lifting? In 9 years we went from people barely being able to do 400kg to 430kg being the warmup for the top guys. We simply can not say 600kg will never be reached.

Hes saying if the beast didnt place the bar so insanely high with a 500kg deadlift no one would have tried to lift over 500 right now. People would be happy with a 480 or whatever. The beasts insane record forced everyone to up their game. Hence why we wouldnt see these kinds of lifts if it wasnt for the beast
