why I strongly support double majoring

  • thanks to Tchit87 for the inspiring the topic of this video.
    Recap of the points I covered:
    1. Exposure to different fields allows one to consider more career paths and achieve greater clarity of what they want to pursue
    2. Now or never: We have so many opportunities to learn in college, and we should take advantage of this!
    One more point I didn’t cover but I would like to add here:
    I used to worry that double majoring would hurt my grades, as I may be overloaded with work. However, from my experience, double majoring can help you develop time management skills that may actually help you do better in all of your classes. Plus, I find that double majoring prevents me from getting bored of any particular subject. For example, I can shuffle from Accounting to OChem to Financial Stats to Genetics, without really feeling like I’m studying too much of one thing.
    Hope everyone is staying safe, and for those who are still grinding for finals, I wish you the best of luck.

      love to hear that, Blessing! Statistics is one of my favorite subjects actually. I also think it has so much overlap with medicine because all most clinical research is founded upon statistical analysis

    I Agree with all your points!! I’m thinking about pre-health and I like the idea of majoring in something not medicine/hard science related not only because it’ll help develop me more but also so I can have more options after undergrad if I decide to drop pre-health. Glad to see you back! Would also be really interested in day in the life, productivity, studying, pre med, and business related videos :)

    Wassup Anthony. I’m an incoming freshmen at UT and I plan on double majoring in Engineering and Biochemistry as a Pre Med. I was wondering if you can share your email with me so, I can contact you about this idea and any recommendations you have for me. Thanks for everything. I’m glad you’re going to start making more videos in the summer.

      Hey Mike. I’m trying to decide on making the same decision, though instead of Biochemistry I’ll do Biology. Could you let me know if he ever contacted you and share with me what he shared with you? Plus you’ve started school now, so I’d want to get advice from your personal experience so far as well. I’d appreciate it a lot. Thanks!

    Hey Anthony, keep up the vids man! I'm actually an incoming freshman at UT for McCombs and would love to double major with Computer Science but as you know that's pretty tough haha. I think I'll try to get into comp sci with a transfer first and see how it goes?

    I recently became interested in computer science so I’m planning on double majoring in CS and Biology (I’m also premed haha)

      that's an awesome combo. I'm sure CS will help you with science research, if you decide to do that

    I’m thinking about either double majoring in engineering and Canfield BHP or getting a major in engineering and a minor in business. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations?

    • @AnthonyTang
      @AnthonyTang  Před 4 lety +1

      The engineering major and a business minor combo is a lot more common, and I assume it's a bit more flexible. A double major in CBHP and engineering would be a pretty rigorous track, but if you are passionate about it, I would encourage you to do it! If you accept your spot in Canfield BHP, you can apply for the addition of a double major in the spring of your freshman year.

    thinking about double majoring business and law, would those two synergize well with each other?

    • @AnthonyTang
      @AnthonyTang  Před 4 lety

      My degree plan actually includes a course called "Business Law", so I would say they are indeed pretty connected. I have friends who are pursuing this combo also; you should definitely explore it if you're interested.

    Considering double majoring in journalism and mass communications and business (law). Thoughts on minors/certificates? Greek life and extracurriculars in general?

    • @AnthonyTang
      @AnthonyTang  Před 4 lety

      sounds like a cool combo! if you want to pursue more, IMO, it doesn't really matter what exactly you add, as long as you enjoy it. Same thing goes for extracurriculars! best of luck with those pursuits

    Do you find the double major course-load overwhelming? Double majoring is pretty much like twice the work lol

    • @AnthonyTang
      @AnthonyTang  Před 4 lety +1

      it can be at times, but I truly believe if you are genuinely interested in the majors you choose, double majoring can actually be quite manageable, as you develop time management skills to help handle all of the coursework. But by no means should anyone pursue a double major just for the title...I highly doubt that'd be worth the work
