MY COW IS READY FOR A BABY!! // HEAT DETECTION PATCHES FOR CATTLE

If you saw my #instastory, you know that Honey is being AI'd today!
I had a few people message me about cows in heat, so I wanted to share a reel with some info. 🤓 I am by no means an expert or a professional dairy farmer, but I have learned a few things along the way in my homesteading journey. 🐮
One benefit to having multiple dairy cows is that it's easier to breed your cow and detect heat cycles. When a cow is in heat, the other cows (even the girls) will try to mount each other 🫣 A cow needs to be bred during "standing heat." I was having a hard time detecting when Honey was in standing heat because I can't be out there all day to watch if she allowed to be mounted.
Our vet suggested using heat detection patches, so I found Estrotect Breeding Indicators (I linked them under "Milk Cow" in our Amazon Store front linked in our bio)! They worked PERFECT! 👏🏻
Basically, the patch goes on the cow, and when they allow the other cows to mount them, the patch gets rubbed off and displays a BRIGHT color (in this case pink) to let you know they are in standing heat. You have around 12 hours after "standing estrus" to AI. 💉
Our AI tech came today and got the job done! 🙌🏻 If she took, Honey will be due in November. 🥹
