Really useful tutorial dude, ive jumped from cds to Traktor Z1,F1,and now im sure to buy and u this machine ;) gratz for ur vid! Thanks
Hi Phil great tips on the touch strip I use your tips all the time on my X1 mk2.
Nice that people are starting to recognise the usefulness of this sort of setup.
My main rig has been an Allen & Heath DB2 mixer and a Traktor Kontrol X1 and it's just as professional looking and sounding as anything else with the benefit of not having to lug around a giant mixer and a bunch of CDJs.
Love that you're promoting something like this! :)
We've actually been meaning to run an X1 piece since the original X1. The touchstrip swayed it though :)
***** Yeah, the Mk2 with the touchstrip just brings it to a new level above and beyond the original.
Love the x1. I have been using it ever since it first came out and i still have my audio 8 to this day =) Now I have the x1 MK2 alongside Pioneer CDJ DJM 900s for some Pioneer / Traktor HID madness. I have not yet messed with the touch strip for effects and have only been using it in default mode. I'm excited to experiment with that next =D
Had a gig last night. As mentioned the bar already had a full mixer and CDJs. I was able to squeeze in with a X1 and F1. The other DJ with a Kontrol S4 had a much harder time of it.
What a great video! Very clear with no vlog nonsense. All things i didn’t now. I should have read the manual. Tnx!
Thanks for this. Very informative as I was torn on what controller to get for my maschine based set up. So I will be picking this up and also getting your same haircut.
This vídeo save my life. Thank you
I use 2 of these for 4 deck control, they're half the size and twice and useful as my old S4!
Cool tips I've been using the X1 (mark 1) I've mapped it according to my needs and it works perfectly. :)
thaaaaanks!!!! so useful, I'm very glad I got this now. is there any way to change volume of the 2 decks seperately
phil we love you man your a great man !
gud crisp n made very easy.. thank u..
Yes bad boi Phil. That was really cool & helpful
well done for the tutorial.. thanks
NI should hire you for demos! Thanks man!!!
Nicely done.
Well, here where I live in Canada (a small city), I've seen DJs use a ddj-wego with Serato on a fully otherwise empty booth on slow nights. Honestly to see that thing in the booth though is hilarious!
Great tip, I was using a o Numark DJIO it works perfectly with my x1mk2 and Traktor Pro 2. I have a question does anyone else notice the 3 large encoder knobs are loose on their post. Loose enough they came be pulled off with very little effort. I contacted NI they stated because the knobs are touch sensitive their should be some play. I had it for almost a year but never noticed how loose they were until I had to clean it, but they pulled right off with no effort.
great video!!!
Until now I had no idea I could change my tempo on the original X1 mapping. I mapped it separately XD
Very helpful video! I have already been using two X1s and an F1 (as a mixer) modular controllers with custom mappings as my set up for quite a while though.
need some advise I use time code cdj with my traktor a6 sound card can i add this to my set up as i want to use the effects module on the controller to unlock all traktors effects, how would they all plug in together?
My touch strip seems to lag. I've increased the sensitivity. Is this normal or is my X1 defective? Please, any help would be much obliged.
How to cut off the sensitivity of the browser knob in preference.
Thanks in advance
hi can you tell me if i could use that soundcard to set up the timecode, its the only bit i need to set mine up
Nice video is very good for mobile djing (macbook, X1 Mk2,Audio 2), do Audio 2 mk2 works with macbook because on NI site they have no drivers for mac. Thankx
Great video, I have the X1 Mk2 already but your video has taught me more about how to get the most out of it than I'd got from reading the manual. However, I wonder if you've heard of anyone having problems with the unit. I have used it for a couple of months without any hassle until the other night when a fault seemed to develop. Using Traktor Scratch Pro II on a windows 7 laptop the decks started to move themselves as if somebody was playing with the touch strip. I had a look on the NI forums to no avail, updated my drivers and the latest update for Traktor, also re-scanned in all my music and the fault remains. With the X1 unplugged Traktor works fine, but as soon as I plug it back in this new fault returns. I bought the unit as a back up for my MC6000 which needs to go back for its third replacement of faders so now need a back up for my back up. Sorry for the long post, Just wanted to get as much info over as possible. Keep up the good work with the video's and articles which I have found very informative.
Is it still under warranty? I'd get it back to be checked out if I were you.
Yes it is, just felt like a software fault to me, like a dodgy update or something. Will have to drop it back in and get it checked out. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Have been going through your other vids, some great stuff there.
Hey Phil I went a step further and mapped high kids and lows on my X1! So they are mapped by holding shift. You could never have this free range on serato.
very good. tks
Hi,
I'm using a Kontrol S2 mk 2 and X1 mk 2, but i can't touchstrip on both decks as mentioned. I put my finger on the middle on the touchstrip but nothing happens. What should i do?
Amazing
Good.
great tips! As i an about to change my gear this would be a great first choice. Big questions, how does the monitor work in this setup? I want to prelisten any track even if the 2 decks are loaded. how would that work? don´t I need a 6 channel sound card?
+Martin Dauer Hm, well the set-up examples on their product page suggest either using a mixer with a sound card (like the Audio 6) or just using a mixer like the Kontrol Z2 - I've seen there is a mapping that allows you to control headphone monitoring via the FX buttons (likely on Traktor Bible).
Great vid! I have an S4 MK II and I'm after a piece of hardware purely for effects! Please help! RMX 500 looks brilliant, however I'd rather keep it Native :).
Thanks.
Have you experimented with setting the x1 up with an s2 mk3?
Sorry man, on my traktor s4 once I engage a loop, I can the move it around in case I haven't set it on the right section of the track.
Can you do the same with the X1? I appreciate it
Hey Manu - you mean beat jump? Believe you can do this via shift + loop encoder, and it'll move depending on the size of the loop
Which sound card do i get for this Phil?
What about pitch bending? I assumed you would show us an example of pitch bending with the strip. Am I out of line or is this a valid question?
Great video. Question: is it possible to use the touch strip as a cross fader 🎚 for mixing?
Nice
Hey great video but that small soundcard your using looks like something i can use being that its smaller than other's. Can you tell me the make and model and which windows late software it works for. Thanks
hi im looking to buy the x1 in the near future with the xone 43c, so my question is setting the bpm as precise as with the traktor controller, because of finding the right bpm when im going from vinyl back to digital.
Had a lot of doubts about this controller since it did away with the jogwheels. It is quite remarkable you can do almost everything that you could do with jogwheels minus scratching.
is it possible to snap the snap to half and quarter beats? or maybe keymap that ?right now it places the loops on the whole beats wich makes them sound off in any hi-hat oriented music? or am i doing something wrong perhaps?
Do I have to have a mixer to play what you just played? or just the x1 and the audio 2?
yes this device replaces the cdj or turntables, you may use traktor z1 as player and have a perfect mobile dj setup
So...if I understand correct, this Traktor Kontrol X1 is a "Mixer" for Notebook DJ's? Or can I use it with my timecode equipment?
+DJ ElectroFresh Here's our full review of the X1: www.digitaldjtips.com/2013/08/review-video-traktor-kontrol-x1-mk-2/ It goes over what the controller is actually for - essentially it's a "decks and effects" controller - meant to help control basic mixer, transport, and FX functions within Traktor Pro (not Traktor DJ for iOS) - it can also be used as DVS for Traktor Scratch - so yes, it's both good for using with timecode gear, and for notebook DJs :)
Nice vid Phil. I'm planning to add up an X1 mk2 on my Traktor S2 set up. I already have an F1 mapped with Tekken's Effects mapping and I also use it for my remix sets.
My question though is, can I use the X1 with my existing set up so that I can use it to control decks C and D? My S2 only allows me to control two decks and I really want to be able to control all 4 decks without investing on an S4.
Thanks. I'm an avid fan of your vids. Keep up the good work!
I am pretty sure you can map this. Might make a video about this as soon as I get my hands on the x1 mk2
So this would work for adding basic digital input to analogue set-up?! I play vinyl on analogue mixer but need some basic digital capability (I need to play mp3s through my mixer!): so if I go laptop - X1 - soundcard - line in that would do it? The touch strip is the key feature for me, thanks so much for this vid. Is there an equivalent controller that has a soundcard built-in?
How to switch from Deck A to B?
+Haykel Cheffai The X1 Mk2 works great for gigging DJs using a club's existing mixer (to perform crossfades, volume control, EQ, and the like). Likewise with a mixer at home. Minute 4:10 in the above video goes into more detail on controlling deck A or B with the touchstrip (but doesn't show mixing from deck A to B, so I understand your confusion). Here's our full review on the Kontrol X1: www.digitaldjtips.com/2013/08/review-video-traktor-kontrol-x1-mk-2/ Hope this helps! :)
tracktor is different also spruked by the best.
if the Traktor Kontrol X1 mk2 midi mappable? I'm planning on using this along side my DDJ 1000 but don't want to use 2 laptops. cheers
@@digitaldjtips ok thanks! Would you recommend using this as another 2 decks on a ddj 1000 or the dual deck feature?
Hello Digital DJ Tips, I'm 14 and very new in Music Producing and DJ-ing, I've bought myself FL Studio Producer Edition 11 recently and I started to learn how to produce music etc, I also bought my self an simple usb midi keyboard, to be precise eKeys Evolution with 37 keys and I'm really interested in music producing, I've been collecting money to buy my first DJ Controller. Right now I've collected around 100$ from my pocket money etc...I wanted to ask you what is the best controller for me that costs around 200$-250$? I've been thinking about Beatmix Reloop but I'm not really sure 'cause BeatMix Reloop feels kinda toyish and with very few controlls to satisfy my ambitions, appetite, desire (whatever is right word for it, but you get it). I apologize for my bad english vocabulary and grammar, English isn't my native language, and thank you in advance :)
To learn you'll want a full controller like Mixtrack pro or pro 2 but modular stuff like the x1 and z1 from NI are both good options
Everything mentioned is 200$
🤘🤝
hey there, is anyone able to tell em if i can use this mk2 and cue without using a soundcard, by somehow using the laptops soundcard? thx
you can do that, but u will not be able to listen seperate track a and b . only master + u dont have control over volume on a or b... but its possible.
djdomiy if you have a f1 (or any midi controller) you can midi map the internal mixer to that controller I have and its just great
is audio 2 necessary ?
+samat lakra Yes, you need a soundcard (eg Audio 2) for plugging into the mixer
+samat lakra only if you're using a mixer that doesn't have a dedicated sound card that you can use Traktor with. You can use a Pioneer DJM-850/900nxs or the new 900nxs2 as the sound card and plug that in USB. Considering most venues have those as the standard, you'll only need something like the Audio 2 if they don't.
u must be a turntablist to be a dj im tired of hearing that as long it sound good and you doing a good job transforing deck a to deck b and vice versa ur a dj period
I just got one to use while I'm spending some months away from home, and this video was INCREDIBLY helpful. Thank you!
