  • Have we passed the climate change tipping points?
The Gulf stream, the Amazon, the Greenland ice sheet - are they all close to a point of no return? And if so, what does that mean for the Earth? John Schellnhuber is the world-renowned researcher behind the concept of "tipping points" in the climate.

Such small amount of watchers and comments. Says it all about the problem.

Yes, I notice this on many of these information presentations, especially with regard to climate change and its impacts, unfortunately.

Such good interviews, thank you. Terrible news.

End of century again! More like end of the decade.

Tipping? I've moved to calling those _trigger_ points, as they trigger processes that go off like a bullet, pick up speed as they go and cannot be turned back.
A first sight its similar to tipping over, but far less innocent.
Much like the best known effects, raising sea level, Ice cap melt, warming summers: slow going, long term, but not too much worrying today.
But the lesser, "unknowns" are the real risks multi year drought, multiple harvest failures, hunger, pests, unrest and rebellion, wars and mass refugees. Those too take time, but first signs show up in increasing instability in Sri Lanka, Eastern Africa.
Long term heatwaves in South East Asia will send millions on the move. Once those weather patterns are triggered, there's no turning back.

I believe, as history shows, thst we are our own greatest threat. Civil unrest will be our undoing before nature and the climate.

    1:10 #Jetstream added as feedback 43
(feedback 1 to 41 from Ripple, Schellnhuber Jockstoem one earth 6 pages pdf.)
This feedback dances a lot with other feedbacks.
example SST is up 1K because trande winds are weaker
    Threshold: 1980 to 2021.
The #Jetstream moved the high/low weather systems from west to east.
high weather systems stay long as #heatwaves.

1D02 Schellnhuber Self amplifying greenhouse gas process
Earth atmosphere (>340ppm CO2) may be a tipping element.
    Feedbacks work to increase CO2.
    if something like a
Self amplifying greenhouse gas process exists.
This would be the end of our civilization.
