Not a bad attempt at emulating the great Ansel Wyatt ❤.
Exactly what year was this tune recorded?
62 or 63
I totally second the previous comment. ❤😅. What an era 👏! (1960-1966).
Love all these Wyatt’s combo uploads. ❤❤❤
I have fond memories of ansel and jenny who were our friends and I watched him play and sing at various places in Tobago and visited them. So sorry to see he is no longer with us. My daughter was very young but loved ansel and jenny she's now a adult as was long time ago but thankyou for doing this video is jenny still in Tobago I miss her she was lovely.
Thank you for all this. Such a great band
That picture in the thumbnail is not Janis Joplin.
❤
The Queen lives
Janis Joplin never looked that good!
How would you know?
She was on the news, TV, magazines back in the day. @@susantunbridge4612

I see you're in the left seat, Steve. Way to go.
Lovely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thanks for sharing 🙏👍🏽

I'm a little bit flabbergasted. This is a tune coming from the calypso HEROES NEVER DIE sung by Lord Christo. Where is Lord Kitchener in all this?
The Ansel Wyatt combo came to Sangre Grande (my home town) for the first time in 1963. It was viewed as the clash of the giants when they came up against Silver Strings Combo. It was a 2 pm to 2am fete. In my view, Silver Strings was ahead up to 7pm. At that point, all hell broke loose when Ansel and his boys brought the house down with FOOLS RUSH IN. ❤
Great story!
Thanks to Steve Khan I am hearing the tune that made me fall in love with Ansel Wyatt's Combo in 1963. Thanks again Steve Khan 👍 😀 🙏 😊.
Steve was rhythm guitarist of course. Ansel's fluid style on lead is what captured everyone's attention, but Steve's versatility and creativity on different tunes made the pair a unique music experience. They have to be remembered together.
Steve Khan, what is the full name of this tune? (I love it very much.)
❤❤❤ OH boy, how I had loved this 😍.
Had not heard this one before, Steve! Love those ninth chords. Thanks for posting it. 🙂
Another favourite❤. The flip side was "YESTERDAY. "❤
Thanks Steve Khan 👍 🙏 😊. You're the man. ❤
This is the tune that made me take note of Ansel and his combo. Not too long after, I was completely bowled over by "CAN'T GET USED TO LOSING YOU."
Steve is it possible for you to upload the tune "YOUR CHEATING HEART?" I'd be grateful 🙏.
I asked for NONE BUT THE LONELY HEART ❤️ and I got it 👍. I'm so happy.
I now want CAN'T GET USED TO LOSING YOU. ❤
The very best chord guitarist back in the day ..... Super Combo .
I'm a bit surprised that "FOOLS RUSH IN" with its flip side "COME LEH WE GO" has not yet hit CZcams. I have the "45" collecting dust in my music library. Unfortunately, I don't have the means to upload it to CZcams.
someone else has put it on the tube-check it out!
Beltran, r u in Sando?
@@manzana100 No, not from Sando. Originally from S/Grande but now live in Arima.
Steve, what was Morris' last name? Was he also called Buggsy?
Beltran, I put it up a few months recent. I have a playlist called "Ansel" on my channel, btw. 🙂
This was the soundtrack for Rodgers Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC. I now wish for " NONE BUT THE LONELY ❤ HEARTS." I hope 🙏 my luck is in.
Thanks so much 🙏 💓 ☺ Steve Khan for playing the WHOLE TUNE. One observation (correct me if I'm wrong) I believe the correct name of the the TUNE is " THIS NEARLY WAS MINE. "
🎸 Thanks Steve, good to note all their names, i only knew of Georgy before.
Steve Khan, why can't we get the WHOLE tune "THIS NEARLY WAS MINE"? I plead for it.
Great recording
As far as I recall, Ànsel Wyatt Combo originally lasted from 1960 to 1966. He then went to Sangre Grande and formed a new band with Roland Daniel (formerly Roland Daniel Combo). This band barely lasted a year. Not the type to give up easily, he formed another band in S/Grande with the likes of Glenroy Mendoza (Patch), Edwin Phillips and others. During this time they managed to record ON BROADWAY and GREENFIELDS. ( I still have my copy). By the end of 1968, the band was no more. Ansel left for overseas and I never saw him in the flesh again.
Steve, in 1960 you and Ansel were playing for a house party on our block. It must have been one of your first gigs. The boys on the street (me) were not invited to the family event inside, but were allowed to visit in the gallery with the band. Ansel sat calmly in a folding chair with legs crossed, wearing dark glasses; you sat next to him, with your guitars and single amp between you; the drummer (George?) stood against the railing with a single snare drum on a stand, using drumsticks; the bass-man stood next to Ansel - with a box-bass! I had never seen an electric guitar played, or a box-bass. You fellows blew me away with every tune you played. I remember Prelude - which you recorded soon as a single - I still have my copy 60 yrs later, and I wrote words to it. Thank you for the music and the years.
Thanks my friend, 60 years! life is short. Like your version of Prelude!
Ansel, the founder of Combo music in T&T was also versatile on the pan, sax and keyboard.. He was a natural musician. Sunrise1943/12/10 Sunset 2017/06/18. Rest in peace my good friend
agree 100%!
This group were quite talented but I really liked the original Flamingos with Solly and The Carey's. What happened to them ?
Sounds like "Teensville" to me.....if I remember right, Clarence Curvan, with Darlington Brown on guitar. Later on he formed Darlington and the Astronauts, the first T'dad combo to include an organ, and recorded Delilah and Coming Home. But Flamingos sounds as good as Clarence did back in the 60s.
Thanks for refreshing
@@SynTEvoxE You're welcome. I loved the Ansel Wyatt Combo music as a teenager and I love it still at 74. Wish that he was still with us. Thanks for remembering and continuing to keep the music alive. I wondered how to preserve my fairly extensive combo music collection for posterity and CZcams is the answer. I only need to learn how to upload them, the ones that I have not seen on CZcams thus far. I am encouraged by people like you to make the effort. Cheers
yeah...nice strumming, Steve. reminds me of Darlington Brown in "'610 saga" (Clarence Curvan). Sincerely hope that you are still strumming.... Cheers.
Only just saw this...very moving. Very nice tribute and way to remember Ansel and your links to him. You guys made wonderful music and I loved it even though I only heard it on the radio back then and never saw or met any of the players. Permit me to say that I envy you and wish that I could have been like you guys, making the music. I have a pretty comprehensive combo music collection - just about every selection that I could find - and I play them all he time, including, of course Ansel Wyatt Combo. Cheers and best wishes. Dennis.
I wanted to know if there were any videos or movie clips of Johnny Carter and Sollie McElroy available. The original Flamingos group. They were truly the epitome of the Rhythm & Blues era along with Billy Ward"s Dominos when their Lead singer was Clyde McPhatter ?
Steve Khan, starting with "Your cheating heart" and "Can't get used to loving you" I have been a fanatic of Ansel Wyatt combo right up to this day. I rem. when you all "clashed" with Silver Strings in S/Grande in 1963, to many ears including mine, Silver Strings was leading. But when the "atomic bomb", FOOLS RUSH IN was dropped that was that ! Correction: LOVING should be LOSING.
Yes Steve remember those days ,at Gandie Street Marabella practicing all night Beautifull .
Thank you so much I love these songs.
i always remember Ansel playing this tune at a house party at Henry St Sando. It was in the days when people actually danced and enjoyed it
He used to say I'm his little brother ! R.i.p.
