It is. I should mention that foil can increase temperatures (think about baking in an oven) and I've since moved on to using Press N Seal wrap to cover my pots. It won't hold heat like foil does and it's food safe.

I'm so glad I was able to help! Thanks for checking out my video. I also have a tutorial on how to make a smaller version. This tall prototype kept falling over and it was hard to change the resevoir water. I eventually shrunk it down without losing the space. I called it a Mini Tower.

I didn't have to use it! I save the big guns for the last resort. First, I'll try to use barriers like netting and yellow tape. I'll pick bugs off, and I'll cut leaves that are damaged or have leaf miners. But if I find that the bugs are critically damaging the plants ability to thrive, then I'll use pest spray. I have definitely had to use this in the past when I was in soil gardening. I sprayed my plants, waited a week, and really washed the tomatoes I ate. I haven't had to use any pest sprays in over 4 years in, but I would if I had to, and I'm not ashamed to say it lol

PVC has been expensive forever. I found ACE is way cheaper than most stores

In the middle of summer, I was adding 1 bottle in the morning, and in the afternoon, I would replace it with another frozen bottle. I work from home, so I was able to do this, but if you can't be at home to add 2 bottles, then just add 1. Keep an eye on the plant and roots for signs of stress and root rot. After growing tomatoes outdoors a few times you will learn how the plant behaves and what kind of heat it can tolerate

I have a little 20 dollar submersible pump that I only use for moving water in and out of the reservoirs. This means I don't have to lift and tip any heavy buckets of water and risk hurting my back. I drop the sub pump into the reservoir and drain the water. Then I put that sub pump into the new nutrient solution and pump that INTO the reservoir. For cleaning systems like this as long as the pvc pieces aren't glued together, it's really easy to take the pieces apart and clean them and then put them back together again. I really love little submersible pumps to save me heavy lifting ❤️ I hope this helps!

I started hydroponics using the most inexpensive meters on amazon. They would crap out on me, and I'd have to replace them often. One time, I killed a plant because my EC pen stopped reading accurately but gave no warning that it was on the way out. Spent the extra dollars on a Bluelab PPM meter and an Apera pH. Then I upgraded to a Bluelab pH pen. I won't use anything else but Bluelab. When I was putting together all the kits and the diy system I realized I had spent quite a bit and if I had to buy the meters too I would have to do some overtime at my day job. I wrote Bluelab on January 16, asking if they wanted to donate some tools. The marketing rep Jessica was so responsive. They IMMEDIATELY went into action and got me these meters, and next week, I'm going to show the teachers how to use them.
