Ebert is dead wrong about Jumanji being too scary for kids. I watched this movie a million times when I was around 5 or 6 years old. There's a lot of action, but it's not particularly violent. No one even gets killed in the film!

The Witches of Eastwick was a piece of crap.

Reese Witherspoon was really great in movies like "Election", "Freeway" etc. She shined brightest in dark-comedies, playing characters, and played a criminally low amount of them in her career. Kinda makes you wonder what could have been had she stuck to those, instead of the rom-com slop roles she was served.

Episodes like this remind me that I am constantly at odds with Roger's grandstanding and moral posturing over absurd comedies, knowing that he is partially--if not, mostly--responsible for 1979's "Beyond The Valley of the Ultra-Vixens". If he reminded himself of this fact as much as I unfortunately have to do, I think he would've had such a better outlook and attitude on certain films.

They are correct about Mnemonmic - even the book version. Gibson wraps his twenty first century cyberpunk technology in typical noir genre clothing from the middle of the twentieth century.

I watched St. Elmo's Fire again after Brats and it still doesn't hold up (I am a child of the 80s). It's depressing, immature, and none of the characters are likeable. Jules lives in excess, Kirby is a stalker, Billy can't get past his frat boy days (How did he even graduate?), and Kevin is a morose whiner. I was just hoping someone would put them all out of their misery. Even by the ending, I still disliked them. The only character I feel sorry for is Kim Sung Ho. He can't keep an attaché. First Billy, then Kirby. That'll teach him not to hire Brat Packers

Siskel and Ebert reviews are a great counterargument to the widespread misconception that 1994 was a great year for movies. Looking closer at what came out week after week from January to December, the abundance of positive reviews have really declined after 1993.

14:26 Gene perfectly explains Michael Jackson’s artistic decision. He drew a direct link between racial injustice in the U.S. and the violence exhibited by black men as a result. The choice of a Black Panther was not a coincidence. As a Jew, I think Siskel had a slightly deeper understanding of cultural and ethnic nuances than Ebert. The longer he was married to Chaz, the better he understood race.
