WHY TEABAGS MAYBE BAD FOR YOU
Link for CBC coverage of pyramid teabags: czcams.com/video/DVdrNCCGdK8/video.html
Today, we will learn about why teabags may be bad for you.
Firstly, teabags have low-grade tea in them, usually broken leaf, dust or fanning. These are usually leftovers of the original loose whole leaf. Some may argue that their teabags are actually flavoursome. But here, we would like to ask you to always check whether your teabags are naturally flavoured or artificially. If it is artificially flavoured, then it defeats the very purpose of good health in a cup of tea.
Secondly, most tea bags have plastic in them. Most of them have thermoplastic coating of polypropylene or PVC on the inner lining of the teabag which helps in sealing it. Also in order to maintain the wet strength of paper, they are treated with epichlorohydrin which is a compound used in the production of epoxy resin. However, there are many companies that are trying to all-natural. Some of them use GMOs and PLAs derived from plants while others use Manila hemp or Abaca fibre from the Philippines.
The newest to join the teabag bandwagon is the pyramid teabags. They were originally made to have a better offering of tea in them as they have more space. However, these turned out to be the worst. They are made of PET or nylon. A study at the McGill University of Montreal found that a single pyramid teabag when dipped in hot water, sheds about 11.6 billion microplastic particles into a single cup. This makes the fancy pyramid teabags, the worst.
Thirdly, one cannot tell clearly what is in a teabag. There have been many reports of people finding things other than tea in their teabags. It would be advisable to stay away from old teabags or teabag packets nearing expiry. These things usually happen when there is seepage of air and moisture into a teabag.
Fourthly, most teabags are also non-biodegradable with the plastic content in them. A lot of people who threw their teabags into their compost bins found that they do not completely decompose.
Fifth, they restrict the unfurling or opening up of the leaves. This is the very reason why they have low-grade tea in them which is quick to give colour but lack flavour. And then you have to artificially flavour them.
The best choice in tea is always loose leaf. You can use a wide infuser for single-cup brewing which is a much more healthier option.

Today we are going to talk about tea infusers. The best and the worst of them and try and understand what is really required. There are a lot of infusers readily available in the market but not all of them are really good. Some are decent, some are good, some are excellent and some of them are of no use. When choosing a tea infuser, you should choose one with a wide area which allow proper unfu...

People who drink flavored teas are like people who drink cheap whiskeys, they just don’t have any knowledge or experience. I only drink the finest teas and single batch scotches.

Thanks for the video. I would say brewing tea in a specific type of pot or kettle made to synergize with the tea is the most ideal brewing vessel. More often than not, a teapot will only get average results, as it is simply a container. For example, some East Asian cultures make use of a large cast iron kettle and may even brew the tea directly over the fire. I'm sure certain types of Darjeeling could benefit from a specialized brewing method & container to bring out more of the compounds in the tea leaves into the water. And of course, don't forget the quality of water and minerals present in the water contribute greatly to flavor as well. Water choice is the backbone of your tea.

I made the tea as shown in the video and it made my tea taste much better, less bitter and more aromatic. I used to make tea with overly hot water, now I brew it with 95 degree water for 2.5 minutes and it feels perfect. thank you good sir❤

I just boil the water and 1.5 tsp tea for a couple minutes, add milk, bring to boil, then simmer for less than a minute.

Don't boil darjeeling tea or any other loose leaf tea variants. CTC tea is the one to boil and especially used for milk tea and masala chai because those tea's are dark and robust in colour and strong in taste. Also avoid tea bags, the tea inside the bag is literally tea dust or the left overs of the teas while teas are manufactured.

The reason for that is partially because of his preferences though. He added more water to the first flush, that why it’s so much lighter. Also he prefers non boiling water, which weakens the tea. I prefer my tea full flavored and dark as possible. I use boiling water and I stir the tea around for five minutes, then I let it sit for another five minutes. First flush will still be dark if you use less water and hotter water.

Very nice and straightforward video, how to find good quality loose leaf tea? Especially these days when I can't go out. I'm trying TGL teabags and I usually just discard the bag and use the leaves with infuser, and the leaves the themself looks good, not like other teabags. I guess that's the best bet until I find some good loose leaf teas

    • @Safallama86
      @Safallama86 Před 3 lety

Assam tea is known for milk tea coz it has strong Muscatel flavour Which very suitable for milk tea Where Darjeeling tea is best without milk ( liquor tea ) which has very floral aroma with notes of ripes fruit

Dear Robert, we call it the Autumn Flush and these may not be necessarily darker than the second flush. Although it may be bright amber to even burgundy but not as brisk as the second flush.
