The History Of Chick's Sporting Goods.
Had many birthdays at Farrells in the 70’s, ate many dinners with my family at Hollanders cafeteria in the 70’s/80’s and would ride my bike to the Hello Kitty store in the 80’s
I had MANY zoo party birthdays in the 70’s as a kid at Ferrells in Downey, CA at Stonewood mall. Moved to Riverside county in the 80’s and there was a location at Tyler Mall then. It closed down in the 90’s I believe and then we were at the newer Riverside location last in 2014 for my granddaughters 7th birthday. What was different about the newer location was the candy store was just a very small section by the door. When I was a kid the candy store was its own full area stocked with a lot of candy. I talked about it with my kids and grandkids and then when we got to the new location it was disappointing. I wanted them to experience the joy I did as a child in the 70’s. Menu was pretty similar but had some new additions which would be expected. Was sad to see it go
I grew up going to Mayfair supermarket in Hollywood on Franklin Ave parallel to Hollywood Blvd.
My Dad was a DJ at Kik. He used to play the Dukes Of Hazard theme for me😆
I brought my first sleeping bag at Gemco for an outdoor camping in the mid-80s.
Are you doing the Crystal Cathedral video the Howe emerge from bankruptcy 👍📲🏡🎍⛪
I grew up on rowland down the street, I had no Idea Eastland was older than the West Covina Mall
Thank you for the upload Eric!.Have you ever visited Sonic Eric?.😎
Their food seemed to become worse over time, as if that was possible. The food was already awful. How do they stay in business?
I personally like the bacon ultimate burgers
Have you done a video on Norm’s yet?
All I remember from The City was the tall office building would shimmer in the summer heat due to the spacing of the vertical vanes in the facade. The only destination I would ever go to (because it wasn't my local mall) was TGI Friday's. We'd go there sometimes after a work shift at Disneyland (parades). I would always order a "Gold Medalist" in a collin's glass instead of the hurricane glass it usually came in because a guy drinking a pink frozen drink has standards. Ha! I just learned that my cousin from TN worked at one when he was younger and could remember how to make them 30 years later!
Note the diagonal cut on the south side of Chapman was the old Pacific Electric rail right of way. OC and LA had the world's largest commuter rail system once upon a time. 2300 miles of track.
The burgundy tile of Ohrbach's always stood out as we passed it on the 605. Looking at the wiki page there used to be an Ohrbach's in NYC on W 34th between 5th and 6th ave (across from the Empire State Building) in the 1950-60s, which is RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from my current office! I didn't know it was founded here on the east coast. (I moved to NYC in 2015 after leaving SoCal in 1994 for SF.)
Remember my brothers and sister couldnt wait for the tyler mall to open. I went tgere for years starting when i was 13 in 1978. Always went to millers and monkey wards . Carl jr was there also . Earth craft❤. Orange juliouse . Alwats cruzed around inside with buddies . A few guys and girls i knew in the early 80s workid at variouse stores. We had a pontiac gto car show inside the mall . Miss tgat old warm atmosphere place
This mall used to be great as a kid. The food court was on the opposite end of the mall in the early 90s, and was very dark and poorly lit. It's the only time I ever tried a burger from an A&W restaraunt. I remember it being super salty. There was a basement level escalator there that lead to a large arcade. It's now been sealed with a kids play area where the escalator was, and you wouldn't know the mall had a large underground level right there. My family got our first computer at a store called Black Wolf Computers that existed near the Sears side of the mall in the mid to late 90's. There computers had a wolf emblem on the front and could run Windows 95 and 98 ooooh! Lol. There used to be a large bookstore on either side of the mall, Waldenbooks was one of them. Gamestop existed as a Software Etc, and was a large corner store that is now a large jewelry store there. The mall had a lot of interesting things for kids in the late 90's/early 2000's. Now, I think not so much.
It's the one place you wear your Sunday best to. It is the very essence of Americana
I worked at Goldwaters in 1985. :)
My first job was at Gemco in Cerritos (corner of Bloomfield and Del Amo. I worked in various departments before being moved to the Credit Office. I worked at the Downey store for about a year before being promoted to the Credit Office Manager at the Torrance Store. After 2 years, I was transferred to the Bellflower store. I worked there until Gemco's closing in 1986.
Wow thanks for this great video! I used to live on fourth Street basically just South of the mall. I love the fact that I could walk to the beach, the pier, and the promenade! This video really brings back my memories of living in Los Angeles in the 90s!
Went there a few times with friends in the 90s. 3rd St Promenade was the hipper destination. Did not know Nordstrom was there. What happened to the Bloomingdales space? Did that Art whatever open? Or is it vacant space?
The neighborhood mall of my youth. 20 years of memories there. The Galleria sign in front of the Sears sign was for a little hallway that had a cool knife shop and always wreaked of acrylic chemicals from the nail salon that was also in there. My aunt met her husband when they both worked at that Sears. I saw Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure in the underground theater and wasted many quarters at the "Superfun" arcade that was halfway down the stairs. It never occurred to me that one day it would be gone. Red Robin hung on till there lease was up. They were on a corner with a separate entrance and still did good business when the rest was fenced off.
I cut many farts and went diarrhea multiple times in that joint back in the 80s 🤌🏻
I was so upset when the Fashion Bug store in our town closed. I bought my dress for my daughter’s wedding at Fashion Bug & I got numerous compliments. I haven’t found any store that I enjoyed shopping 🛍️ at as much as Fashion Bug. I spent a lot of money at Fashion Bug. I would cash my paycheck & head right to Fashion Bug. I’ll never understand why Fashion Bug closed their stores/doors. 💔
I worked at Title Wave in Minneapolis. Far superior to Hollywood and Blockbuster.
One of my first jobs and always preferred them to blockbuster. Being able to return movies by midnight was always better than by noon as opposed to blockbuster.
I remember growing up with a Hollywood Video *and* a Gamestop on the same block... a block away from my middle school. Right outta school, a slice of pizza a soda, and right to Hollywood Video. It's a soulless Anthropologie now :(
As far as major video rental chains go I miss Hollywood video more than any of the others , the atmosphere on the floor when they first opened was just different , It felt more modern/fancier and more 90s , all the way down to the case aesthetic and spaced out front facing shelf presentation. I miss when we ALL had to go out and take more steps than a click of a button to enjoy our entertainment and do anything , so many little things felt like an adventure and a chance to be amongst society and Interact wherever without feeling awkward or Imposing and It was just so much healthier , everyone was far more chill and openly living In the present. , so many Issues within society today prove that probably more often than not less truly was/Is more.
Roy Rogers and Dale Evans LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT is up for auction this 07/25/2024 at EMBASSY AUCTION INTERNATIONAL. Just google “Roy Rogers Last Will and Testament” and a company called Invaluable also pops up taking early bids for this historic item.
This is a great video
My family rented from Hollywood more than blockbuster. I worked there as a summer job as an educator from June 2005 and made it a year before leaving.
the smell of the cheddar/caramel popcorn still resonates with me 40 years later
Thank you for posting!
I used to hangout there in 1983 when I was 12. Id get my allowance and head to the mall. I remember those bike racks!!!
Naugles Replaced The Food Factory In North Las Vegas And Then Was Replaced By Roberto's And Then Del Taco Replaced Naugles In Las Vegas And Henderson Nevada And Then Naugles Replaced Zantigo On Maryland Prkwy And Then Replaced By Del Taco
Does anybody remember the water fountain inside the SBG mall ??
A former Hollywood Video location is now a Chase bank branch, but it still has that recognizable facade that reminds me of HV everytime I drive past.
My old Hollywood Video is now a Bank of America. Every friday night before a school break (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring) was spent at HV to sift through DVDs and Gamecube games.
I miss Hollywood Video and it should come back one day. 😀👍📼
One of my favorite soft drinks of all time
