New Donations/New Discoveries: Maggie Lena Walker, W.E.B. DuBois, and the NAACP
American Conservation Experience archival fellow, Kai Uchida, shares an exciting series of 1934 correspondence between Walker, DuBois, and NAACP leadership detailing DuBois's departure from the flagship civil rights organization.
These records were discovered within the newly acquired historic documents originating from Mrs. Walker's headquarters building in Richmond, VA. The papers are currently being processed at the National Park Service's Northeast Museum Services Center before returning to the Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site in Richmond where they will be available for public research.

Black History Month is not just about the days of extreme slavery. It's about the human power we share in overcoming bits and pieces of the entrapment. The knowledge and wisdom we, Black Americans gain day by day. Black History Month 2021, is about the understanding and the fact-finding and the lessons of UNITY. The power of one Billionaire Black American should be enhanced not taunted and the person who reaches the highest of their potentials should be admired, yet, reminded that their lives belong to the same God that created their siblings created them. There are answers to the many questions, we, Black Americans, all, have. Yet, there is no time for INTERNALIZED OPPRESSION. For, in that, Black America reenslave itself. Do Black America's Children need what we hear about and read about the slavery of our fore-parents...It just came on....Hezekiah Walker's song, "I NEED YOU TO SURVIVE". Timely message.
