Spring Skiing in Hancock, Colorado
Our friend Carla, Professional Human/Amateur Skier, came up for a weekend of spring skiing.
We got about 4" of fresh snow at the house, while Upper Hancock Lake got about 8". Plenty to have a lot of fun! We brought along the drone and GoPro to catch some shots.
Cheers,

A fast paced dog walk in the neighborhood. We decided to take the dogs on a run down to the townsite. Instead of running them on the dog sled, we decided to each take a dog and try our hand at skijoring on snowboards! Find us in other parts of the internet too. This is my first time taking the drone out on a snowmobile ride. We got about a foot of fresh snow overnight that hadn't been in the forecast. The neighbors hit us up on the radio to go for a morning ride before the spring break crowd made it up for the day. A Great morning of riding! Drone: DJI Mini 2

    Ah been a couple years, would be great if you did an update. Walk thru with your experiences after building (struggles, lessons learned) and how living in it for the past two years has been. Again lessons learned and pros vs cons with possible I wish I knew this/that and I’d now change x,y,z if I did it again. Hope to see an update soon…if nothing else maybe just a quick walk thru. Thanks.

      Lol….my thought exactly. There is a lot of potential for the earthship, but these hack looking structures are not appealing to the masses. Will never gain majority following if they keep building leak prone building that have unprofessional finishes. Very interested in these designs, and will be in Taos in just a couple weeks to stay in an earthship for several days

    doesn't reflective/low emissivity glass stop solar gain to your thermal mass and counteract the point of an earthship?

    • @corruptionbackcountry4653

      Hi Kevin, This is regular glass. The snow makes it look like it is really reflective in these shots, but it is not bad in person.

    I was wondering what’s the backstory with this earth ship? What was the motivation for building it? And what is it is it a home or is it a resort thing for some kind of a foundation? Is it for some environmental charity? Do you plan to use it as a showpiece for more earth ships in Colorado?

    • @corruptionbackcountry4653
      @corruptionbackcountry4653 Před 3 lety

      Hi Eric, This is our private home. It is a harsh environment here and we decide that building an energy efficient home would be better than building a log cabin (which is the typical building style in our area). We do think that we have helped open the eyes of our local building department, so that others may have even more success with alternative building methods here in Central Colorado.

    • @corruptionbackcountry4653
      @corruptionbackcountry4653 Před 3 lety

      I wasn't that hard. They were unfamiliar with a lot of the ideas of construction, so it was just frequent checking in with them and getting them some info they requested. A normal house in our county takes 2-3 weeks to permit. Ours took about a month.

    • @corruptionbackcountry4653
      @corruptionbackcountry4653 Před 3 lety

      We would definitely do the cross supports of wood differently. In deep snow they end up plowing a little bit. It can drag so much that it will stop the dogs if the snow is deep enough. Maybe some kind of arched piece...

    • @corruptionbackcountry4653
      @corruptionbackcountry4653 Před 3 lety

      The dogs are using ManMat's "long distance harness". We like it because it takes pressure off of the our old dog's hips. They're retired sled dogs, so we don't run them far - the harnesses are nice to use on walks (with a bunjee extension for when they pull).

    Hey guys I have the same sled but 159" what ski stance do you guys run in the front? last owner had mine at the narrowest setting and i find her rididiculously tippy to turn or on uneven ground. Think if i set her to widest setting on the skis it would help much? I dont think id have any trouble even on widest to get her up on edge just right now its too dam easy that its actually danegerous.

    • @corruptionbackcountry4653
      @corruptionbackcountry4653 Před 3 lety

      We have our skis set at the widest stock setting. I think that is 41". I would say it is still a very tippy machine. We run our ski suspension pretty soft, so that makes it a little tippy too. When there is fresh snow it is perfect, but definitely a bit rowdy on the packed stuff.

      @@corruptionbackcountry4653 Thanks for the reply! I ran them on the widest setting too this winter. I Like her somewhat tippy but for me narrowest was a bit too much even in powder i found her to be very unpredictable in all snow conditions. Even on widest tho it worked soo good for me even side hilling the machine was still easy. Very impressed with the sled it was my first year with her no problems at all this season. Can't wait for next year to get her out at it again :)
