Disgrace by Coetzee, Twice Booker and Literature Nobel Winner.
Disgrace won Coetzee a second Booker (and, arguably, the Nobel) for good reason.
Some authors you love for their fire; some you love for their ice. J.M. Coetzee, the South African-turned-Australian novelist, has spent half a century engaged with the biggest questions of human reason and human dignity, but his novels are not what you’d call grand. They’re sleek, unadorned, unfailingly precise; most top out at 200 pages or so; the sentences have been knapped to their sharpest. Stylistically, his novels are quite brisk. Morally, they are heavyweights.

David Lurie's story is amazing at so many levels - there is his whole lack of remorse ,then certain realisations after what happens with his daughter. There is that apartheid layering to the novel too. And as you say that deep wisdom of the wise in the simplest of words is what Coetzee is about.

Great video some books are new to me. But I am a bit sceptical about dividing philosophy into western and eastern unless the geography and climate and the way in which societies organised had an impact on the way people thought about the world.Certainly how a society is organised, what type of government it had a bearing on the thought process of people. But philosophy is more about seeking answers to the grand questions such as what is life, how best to live, nature of self, justice, how best to organise a society etc. Moreover as i recently found out in the book'How the World made the West' ,ideas and concepts carried form one part of the world and trickle down. Expecting an episode featuring an essential reading list on philosophy.
