French Doors | Painting Guide
Painting French Doors can be overwhelming a first glance. With a plan of action and breaking things down we can own painting French Doors. Don't let this process intimidate you, keep moving forward, learning, and trying. You will get the results you want in no time I know it!
Pro Tip: Always carry a damp rag with you. If you happen to get paint on the glass you can always wrap the damp cloth around a butter knife or your 5 in 1 and take care of it before the paint sets up. A damp cloth is a painters best friend so don't sweat the mistakes because we all make them.
The Steps:
1)Survey the painting area and look for hazards or anything that might be in your way.
2)Sand the surface of the doors with a 120 grit sandpaper working the sandpaper in circular motions in a clockwise fashion around the perimeter of the door.
3)Get your duster brush and sweep all the dust and dirt out of all the nooks and crannies.
4)Start painting at the top left of the door starting with the inside lip that touches the glass. Work your away around the inside of this lip working clockwise around the whole door.
5)Cut around your hinges
6)Repeat this process on the other side of the door giving what you did a nice chance to set up for when you roll the face
7)Roll out the face of the door with your Whiz Roller again working your way from the top left of the door and working your way around in a clockwise motion.
8)Make sure you hit both back and front spines on the sides of the doors. Use light pressure when you are close to an edge so you don't get paint build up on the face.
9)Repeat Process for a second time doing the exact same thing you did for the first coat. Before you start your second coat lightly sand the face of your door. You will get a better finish this way.
10)Clean up glass after the paint has dried and work area.
What you will need:
-brush
-paint bucket
-whiz roller with sleeve
-Paint
-duster brush
-droppers to protect the floor
-5 in 1 or Screw Driver to get paint open
-sandpaper 120 grit
-knee protection

Hinge Filling
zhlédnutí 60Před měsícem
In Todays video I am going to show you how to fill cavities around hinges. Sometimes when you update hardware on a door the hinges will not match the exact pattern of the cut out of the old hinge that was there. This will not look very good if not addressed so with the help of some caulking and a damp rag we can hide imperfections around door hardware. Pro Tip: Do not use Silicone for caulking ...

Today as I work in a Laundry room I came across these brackets that I had to paint around. I figured I would show how to cut around them without using tape. In today's video I am going to show you how to paint a door with a Whiz Roller. Conventional thought would determine that a flat door would be rolled out with a big wall roller. Using a big roller cuts down on potential lines left from a smaller roller like a whiz. With proper technique I will show you how to get just as good as a result if you used a big roller. Why use a small Whiz roller? So...

Painting Crisp Lines Around Shelves And Cabinets

Today I am sharing a video on how to cut lines around shelves and cabinets. This process is extra difficult because we are going to have confidence to not use tape. Great tip with the damp cloth, I have learnt my lesson with using cheaper brands. Should be removed soon after painting wall, even frog tape should not be removed hours or days later. I find that pulling the tape at an angle away from the wall rather than straight up can help too.

Good question and a common one that comes up a lot of job sites. In most houses I work on the top of the doors and the bottom edges are raw and you don’t see them. I focus on the faces of the doors if they are old or new and raw wood is apparent. In these situations sanding and a good oil primer is needed for durability of your paint job. Let’s say you have a grand staircase and you can see the top of a door as you walk down your staircase. This is a situation because you see it then priming is needed and paint. Most places don’t have this set up and you never see the tops of your doors. So I would say to make a long story short is if the faces are in good shape and primed then leave the top and bottom edges. Best of luck on your projects.

Your videos are very helpful to me, as a DIY guy. In my home, built in 2016, all the interior doors (hollow core) have stenciling advising that the tops and bottoms must be primed…yet none of them are. In your reno work, how do you handle? Obviously priming the top edge is easy but priming the bottom edge would require removing the door. How to you handle and should I make the rounds in my home to take care of this will all my doors? (We do not have issues with to door swelling in summer and shrinking in the winter.) Thanks!

You said "3 applications" toward the end of the video. Do you do 3 coats of wall paint - is that what you're referring to? If so, do you keep the original Frog Tape on the base while the wall paint is drying? I've always been told to remove the tape before the paint cures (when it has mostly dried). Thanks!

    • @LeeDoesStuff
      @LeeDoesStuff Před měsícem

Yes three coats of wall paint because the black baseboard is such a dark colour. It all depends on how stark the contrast is between your baseboard color and wall colour. Some paint covers better than others as well so you just have to take a look at things. The advice you were given on when to remove the frog tape is correct. I let it set up for about 20 minutes and then remove it. Good luck on your painting projects.

Gently pry the baseboard away from the drywall using a drywall knife. This creates a gap, insert a long drywall knife into the gap while painting. clean the knife after each pass with a sponge. Use a rubber mallet and a block of soft pin to push baseboard back. set any nails which may protrude.

  • @chrisgraham2904
    @chrisgraham2904 Před 2 měsíci

The huge majority of ladder accidents occur because the ladder feet are not properly leveled. Over 40% of residential and industrial falls involved the use of ladders. The sale of extension ladders should probably be banned unless the ladder is equipped with an approved leveling device. Unfortunately, the leveling devices are quite expensive and can often cost as much as the whole extension ladder. Manufacturers and retailers can keep the ladder cost low by not including a leveling device for the feet and homeowners, in particular, rarely wish to double the price of the ladder.

The reviews are good for BIN primer so I will give it a try on the next project and see how it works. I haven’t had any issues with the Sherwin Bonding Primer and have used it on many projects. The only time I ever had trouble with a primer is if I didn’t let it set up for at least a day. If I rushed the process the tannins would leak through but I haven’t made this mistake in many years. Thanks for the advice on the BIN primer it will be interesting to see how it works.
