Welcome to 18WMS! My name is Thomas Young. This channel is about helping to prevent accidents. Truckers have a big time responsibility in being safe, operating in a safe manner, keeping others safe and lots more. I personally want to say thanks to all truckers as all of you play a major roll in keeping the motoring public safe and keeping the economy going. Lots of accidents happens in areas where trucks are moving at a slow speed such as truck stops, rest areas, customers lots and other crowded areas. These accidents can be prevented when using the proper techniques. I will be covering a lot of territory and sharing my personal experiences of my time behind the wheel as well as my many years of experience in the trucking industry. Feel free to subscribe, like and share. Thank you and please stay safe.

My goodness I'm sure she was terrified I would have been also. But Luke you said Thank God she was alright. And we have to give credit to the Responders. They go to all lengths to help people in distress. Safety first
Well said, Moms! I couldn't have said it better. Thanks for your comments.
So glad she is safe. Safety training is so very important.
This is true Lil Sis! Thanks for your comment.
Very calming way to explain ❗️👏
Thank you! You are awesome!
Perfectly explained ❗️Thank so lot Sir from an Iranian Oldy-Goldy guy in Berlin,Germany ✊🫡👏🙏
You are very welcome, Sir! And I certainly appreciate you and your response. I hope things are going well for you in Berlin, and I wish you the best!
I have rode in eighteen wheelers most of my life, and I have never seen anything like this, thank you Jesus🙏 .. Imo everyone( 4 wheelers included) are going too fast in these conditions, you can clearly see that it is a whiteout, SLOW DOWN! There is no load, no place that you just HAVE to be to risk your life and everyone around you. People in 4 wheelers need to understand that a trucker can gear it down, pretty much stand on the brake with everything he or she has, those trucks are not going to stop on a dime, just like trains, they need a certain distance to be able to stop, especially if they are loaded. Please guys heed this gentleman's advice and slow down, we all want to make it to our destination safe, alive and well. Take care out there on those lonely highways, stay awake, and always be aware of your surroundings. Thank you for sharing this, really put me on alert, fixing to call the hubby now and make sure he is ok!! Have a blessed one🙏
Hi Rhonda, I truly appreciate you and your comments. Truckers make many decisions, and one major decision is to stay off of the road if the conditions are not favorable. 4-wheelers should do the same. It's a matter of life and death, and we want everyone to be safe. Thanks again, and I'm going to pin your response on here. I wish you the best and your husband also.
@@18WMS thank you so much!! Keep the videos coming, I just ran up on your channel and I'm so glad I did! Thanks again❤️
@rhondaglenn2023 you are awesome! You're welcome, and I thank you as well. I will post more videos this week. Please stay safe.
Oh and another thing, USE THAT AIR HORN.. Let everyone in town know you’re about to do something, they may not know what but they’ll be alert to YOU. Even as a rookie, I’ve had ZERO trouble with small towns because I make intentions clear
Great point! As long as they can hear, it just might save someone from getting hurt. Thanks for that, and I'm going to pin it.
Best thing for a driver is signal in advance(for the cars behind you) then take that left(oncoming) lane. They always see traffic is blocked, then you can button hook without even having the traffic back up. It doesn’t work 100% though because some cars behind will still try and creep up on you so you have to block them. And if you block them, the turn will be shallow.
Great points!
I leave the country every winter.
Hi Carlos! I'm happy for you as you have taken control of your situation. Thanks for your comment, and I wish you the best!
Following distance by the cascadia to the left
Excellent!! What is a good following distance?
@@18WMS shoot just not that close.. but I can’t really tell, the flow of traffic could’ve just changed right here.
You were correct as the following distance was not good. Traffic flow can easily change, but with the correct following distance, the threat of a rear-end collision is greatly reduced.
Well sirrrrrr well sirrrrr
Jerrrrraaaayyyy
That definitely happens

Great info! Those turns can be dangerous in many ways. Keep up the good work!
Agreed! Could be dangerous for the truck driver and others around. Thanks for your comment, and I wish you the best.
This really makes sense and is easy to understand. Thank you

He talks too long at the beginning. Camera is off subject.
Thanks for your comment, and you are not wrong. I could have shortened it up some. I hope my point got across and helped someone. Stay safe!
Great info. I am trying to learn how to park my 5th wheel 30 foot camper. It surely isn't as long as your TT. Any hints...appreciated. TIA
I love campers. The key to shorter trailers is that they come around fast. Therefore, turning the steering wheel a little to get the trailer started, then turning back the other way to control it. May have to pull forward a few times to stay in control of the trailer swing. The shorter the trailer is, the faster the trailer swings. I hope this helps at least a little. I wish you the best!
Don't watch your trl watch your trl tires that is your pivot point, setup is the most important part, don't cut yourself short use as much space as you need to setup and get out and look as many times as you need not just to look at clearance look at the angle of trk and trl compared to where your backing into and remember if your using a spotter trust but verify if you hit something they aren't going to pay your deductible.
@chrisstockwell9235 great advice. Watching the tires is also important, but watching everything is important, especially when there is a big portion of the trailer beyond the tires. I have a travel trailer myself. Different from a tractor trailer but similar. Please stay safe!
It is always fun to listen to a guy talking about his passion, willing teaching it to the next generation. I love that you encourage people to just go out and look (and course think) as doing it right is way more important then doing it quick.
Thank you very much for your compliment and comments!! I'm going to pin your comments. Yes, it is better to do it right than quickly. Thank you, and I wish you the best.
Thanks
You're welcome!

Excellent response and comment!!! Thank you, and I wish you the best.
U get in trouble or what is going to happen?
Great question, unless they come after you, nothing is going to happen. Just pay close attention and try not to do it again. Thanks for your question.
I need help on blind side backing
Blind side backing is very risky depending on the equipment and area. I can help you with it, though. Please inbox me at tyoung.18wms@gmail.com Thanks, and I wish you the best.
@@18WMS Do truckers avoid blind side backing if they can help it?
Yes, unless they have a spotter. Even then, backing from the driver side is most likely a safer way. I hope this helps. Please stay safe!
I haven't driven for a living in over 40 years but anytime I went to get a new driving job I would always go get a printout from the DMV myself that way I knew what was on my record as of the date of that printout so when I would put on my application X Y and Z I could always preface it as of whatever date I pull that print out that way if anything else came up after that date I was not lying on the application and therefore it would not be grounds for termination. Drug test back in the day you could actually get a pharmacist to run limited urinalysis drug screens, now you can buy the kit yourself in the pharmacy and test your own urine, peeing dirty for a background check is one of the worst things a driver could ever do cuz that screening company is going to database that information and share it with any other company willing to pay for it.
Thanks for your comments and sharing that information. How things have changed, right? Have a great day.
These videos are so absolutely helpful for anyone going into trucking. Things people need to before they go into trucking. Great job Thomas . Keep up the good work
Thanks, mom! You know better than anyone, how I love to help others. Thanks for your comments. I wish you the best.

Good info ❤️💪🏿💚
Thank you, and please have a great day!
I'm an old guy now, but when I was nineteen I went on a backpacking trip across country and brought FIFTY dollars in traveler's checks with me. Fifty dollars, as in FIVE OH, and I went twenty five hundred miles ONE way. I still had to come back too, but I managed it. I took a Greyhound bus to actually GET there, and both tickets were paid for in advance, but for almost two months I hitchhiked with my buddy around Montana and Wyoming. Admittedly, that was a LONG time ago and a "different world", but today? As a sixty six year old? LOL. I wouldn't drive fifty miles from home without at least six or seven hundred in cash and my two trusty credit cards. Way too old to be rolling the dice at this point. Best of luck sir.
Wow, that was amazing, and I like how you said it was a different time than now. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for your comments. I wish you the best!

The Supply Chain Pendulum Swing An observation by Mark Stephens Volume capacity. Outbound tender volumes. Spot market rates. These are but a few terms used in the trucking industry within the United States supply chain. As with any cost to profit business, supply and demand remains the critical constant by which one makes predictive analysis. In a balanced market, freight movement compares nicely to trucking capacity. In today’s current market, we find ourselves in a conundrum as such. Where supply is abundant, so too are empty trailers whose movement depends on quick timing and flexible negotiated compromising techniques by planners and dispatchers. Pre-pandemic figures categorize nicely into the predictive ebb and flow of the pendulum swing in the supply chain (the range of profit margins targeted and often surpassed within the supply chain) The supply and demand formula was interrupted during this time due to unpredictable consumer buying phases. Production plants, distribution centers and off market third party logistic warehousing begin over ordering and quickly filling beyond maximum capacity. This exasperated increase to the normal pendulum swing was a primary effect of rate escalation. As a retired history teacher, I do recall 19th century philosopher George Santayana’s century old adage, “by not knowing relative history, there’s an excellent chance of repeating similar failure.” Doomed or condemned I believe was the operative adjective used. The trucking capacity grew at an alarming scale, yet the demand to move product remained the carrot to the thoroughbred. Rates were at their highest ever measured and the pendulum needle could not have reached any further than it did before the adverse effect began. By the time carriers had received their pre-ordered trucks and trailers in 2023 the reflux of the pendulum began moving in favor of the shipper and receiver (customer) where it currently lies, albeit in a slow decline. Trucking capacity is still extremely high in spite of some of the lowest rates offered and agreed upon. Add that to the rise in fuel cost in 2023, the supply chain industry saw a devastating rise in carrier and broker bankruptcies with thousands going out of business. Many analysts predict a back to pre-pandemic normality this year. That’s “hopeful” thinking. Bizlytics predicts the spring of 2025 to measure closest to pre-pandemic volumes. If an agreement was achieved to neutralize the influx of supply chain movement through supply and demand predictives and attainable profit margins would fall in a satisfactory target range the survival of all participants would become a reality; at least until the next pandemic. Technology is moving along quite well. AI is becoming a more understood ally to the supply chain partnerships and those who exercise that technology will transcend to the top and to those who let’s say wing it, on their instincts, well let us not forget Dr. Santayana’s famous quote. Mark Stephens Founder & CEO Bizlytics TGMS ~ a Solutions Software ~
Whatever a company put on your dac/usis that is wrong dispute it by mail.& have a credit card & 2 or 3 debit cards.if you know you have drugs in your system don't show up to go work for a company and you know you got drugs in your system
Thanks for your comments. You're right. If drugs (illegal) are in your system, don't show up. Better yet, don't ever show up unless we can stay clean and as safe as possible.

Always have some cash or credit available. If you must, sell something, pawn something or borrow money from friends and family. Even if you don’t get sent home, it will probably be a week or more before you get your first paycheck, so you need money to eat, etc.
Great point. Many jobs hold back at least a week before a person receives pay. Having money to get through that type of situation is vital. Thanks for your input.
