60% of the time, it starts every time. Set the timing very slightly retarded which allows it to start a lot easier than normal without really affecting performance. Les, i once did sills and all 4 quarter panels on a 74 GT, thought my body work was sublime until i rolled it out into the sunshine where it resembled a washboard. I took it to a "real" shop and it turned out nicely. You are a brave soul for tackling this job, i know whats involved only too well. Nice job, and nice Aston-Martin as well Steve from US
I like your attitude. !
So are you using a 2k paint with Isocyanate harder?
Hi Les, great paint job. I have an 80' BGT that needs a respray. Almost finished the prep work, now time to decide whether I paint myself (never painted a car before) or give it to a paint shop. My main concern is the safety aspect from fumes etc. Most blogs I have seen recommend extractor fans to reduce risk and the mist whilst keeping the paint area “sealed”. In your video looks like there door was partially open , didn’t see any fans. Interested to hear your views on this.
I had the main door and a window at the other end open and a small Makita fan blowing the funes out
Fair play you did a brilliant job and so quick!👍 (I got a green mgb)😂😂
Great video! I’m waiting for the result of a Pre Purchase Inspection on a 2005, one owner DB9 in Onyx Black and if all goes well that’s the kind of trips I hope to do in her! Grand job sir!👏👏👏👍❤️
Red is nice but I think the green looks more elegant and typically British.
Mich würde interessieren was für Milch verwendet wurde und wie die Einstellungen an der Machine für das Aufschäumen waren.
Looks nice job. What sort of paint did you use please? Is it toxic? No need to bake it on ? Thanks
Prefer the green 🥴
I finished a complete respray of my 74 roadster about a month ago. Lot of body work. I took the doors off, bonnet and trunk lid also. Color sand, and polish too. I figure about 800 hours. I couldn't be more pleased.
I preferred the green .
I had a GREEN MGB and loved it, BUT my favorite colour is RED so I am bias. Hence I have a RED Jaguar XK8 and a RED Jaguar MKII (Was originally green)
The finished car is here: www.lesfieldphotos.com/blog/mg
It's nice looking, and it is a nice thought, but the paint costs far more than £250. Paint has become insanely expensive. Ballpark 10k$ is what I was recently quoted at more than one shop... which is why most people wrap cars at about half the material price and better durability.
I paid £216 for 3l of red with harder.
4:19 wearing the biggest watch known to man… You really don’t want to get oils from your fingers on the car, that’s much worse than any dust
When they say painting a car the least amount of time is spent actually painting
I love mad people lol only joking matey . I’m a big fan of a red car yes the green was beautiful but the red really shows the lines of the car looks gorgeous and is even more beautiful…er …well done 👍
Green is so classy.... what are you doing next weekend?
Looks like you have done a decent job of the prep. Did you make any improvements to your air delivery system to ensure you didn't get any microscopic droplets of water coming out of your spray gun along with your paint. Kind regards Paul from 48Spokes
Yes I put a water trap in the line £15 from Amazon. Worked a treat.
Great job, the one trick a friend of mine taught me, (I used to paint motorcycles in my garage) was to spray the floor with water 20 minutes before you painted. The wet floor does a superb job of keeping the dust down.
I did that trick with the wire under the rubber when I painted my last B. worked a treat. When I do the current one I'll use that tip about the seams as well. Nice job.
Red I think for me Les. Looks really fresh. Thought I was seeing things when you posted this. 😂
Looks exclusive
Super many coats in one go
Really good video! Lots of work and you made it look easy with good results! A couple of questions; 1. how many coats did you apply (any clear on top)? 2. Did you wet sand the finally coat? Thank you.
Two coats. Going to wet sand and polish in a few days when it's gone hard. Not planning to do a clear coat as I think that makes it shine too much, and I want it to look normal.
Thank you for the quick reply. Would you have to do the clear coat after the wet sanding and polishing or do you do all the spraying at once and wet sand and polish after?@@LesFieldPhotos
@@pyoti5765 it will be wet sanded and polished. The two pack red will be the finish no clear coat.
Got 200 MG s for sale if anyone is interested and parts I'm in Louisiana baton rouge
On this car you have to glue a phone on the window if you need to use GPS
I mean the screen is too small for old people to see, and most people who choose this car (especially the cabrio version) are old men trying to look young again.
Why? You could use the sat nav that's built in or you can upgrade it by companies like Aston installations who fit apple carplay with front and rear cameras.
Your phone is bigger than the screen? Do you live in 1986?
Did the same thing to an MGB in 1980 in the drivewa,y we used to use a lot of newspapers to mask everything up. Great video cheers
must be the video quality on my end cause the pain job looks terrible.
Great DIY video, only wish you hadn't timelapsed the actual paint
Lovely job and saved a fortune. Ready for the shows now.
What compressor and gun did you use
In 1974 I worked in a BL garage preping brand new "B"s for sale - they had the same paint finish as a Jaffa Orange - yours is far too good ;-) Well done, I'm sure you will enjoy the admiration and inspire others to have a go.
What spray gun did you use - was it a HVLP or LVLP?
Well done Les - looks like a good job. Just a thought - when you do your next MGB you might consider painting some of the panels off the car (boot, bonnet, valance and doors - even the front wings). Much more control when spraying giving a better finish, less chance of orange peel and so less time consuming finishing.
Great job.
Fabulous job so very well done and looks a real treat Les, well worth the time and effort you put into this AND saved so much money on a garage re-spray, I have been quoted from 5k to 10k to respray my old BMW 3 series! Will leave as is.
I've got to do the exact same thing on my Van Les.
Had a friend that had 1965 and another friend with a 1968 the 1968 had a overdrive. Miss those days, and yea we could do that on a 'Bankers Holiday Weekend...' Nice job for what it is, she will go another 52 years I'm sure with or without us, or a Bankers Holiday.... lol
Nice one Les. All credit to you taking that on in one weekend. That other bloke looked dodgy though 😂
Nice. Maybe I’ll attempt my old 124 Spider.
Oh...I can see now that you're wet sanding it is indeed dark green, not black! When are you going to rattle can the Aston? 😂
The beauty remains long after the hard work is forgotten.
Brilliant. Great job on a lovely machine. I like how you could see the sun setting on the time lapses! Thanks for sharing and inspiring. -Dan
Well done Les! What paint did you use? I thought you couldn't spray modern two pack paints without air fed respirators etc.
2-Pack. I just wore a mask and made sure there was air flow in my garage.
Much better now. Wasn't too bad..was it?
Main issue was dents and poor panel fit. The pervious owner had welded in new door skins that were out of alignment and it could not be adjusted on the hinge around 15 years ago.
Die Rolex darf natrülich iim Video nicht fehlen :D

That latte art was so satisfying and well executed. I'll take one!
