    Let me give you all the honest review you need without some cringe content creator making a silly long video instead of answering the simple question. Is it worth it. Short answer No Long answer: it is the best thing for a quiet bass drum on the market. I'll explain. Ths reason no because at the end of the day, you are stomping into the ground so you will make noise regardless. So playing foot techniques, playing with a double pedal and playing those fast songs means that you wasted your money. if you think this is the solution to your problem. So I'll let you decide if that's appropriate for you. For me. I had to cut cardboard out to help level the pedal with the kick pad. I also have a towel wrapped around the pad to make it as quiet as I can. And my family are OK with this and my neighbours are OK with this. And I can play the songs and practise the things I want all ok now. So it's not a waste of money for me. What I think gives this product the edge is that its so much more portable than carrying around any other kick pad.

    Kind of wish I saw this before I ordered mine. I was planning on using an old Pearl Double Pedal I had lying around. It's a cheaper model that came with the first used kit I bought. It has no pedal height or beater angle adjustment. This made it virtually unusable. Technically it worked but the the throw was so short, and the pedal was so high, it wasn't worth using it. Next I tried "The Dualist" pedal. That worked OK for single pedal mode, but not so great for double mode. I thought I might use it for that to try and learn how to use that weird pedal, but since the bounce is not realistic you can't really work on the timing IMHO with the quiet kick. Granted, that's an odd ball pedal. Lastly I put on a DW 5000 single like you used. This was the only pedal I tried that works decent. Honestly I don't care if the beater hits flat. I have mine extended out more than you and it's hitting right on the edge where the bend is. Maybe not ideal but for the short time I used it so far, that doesn't bother me. But I know it shouldn't be like that. I think the basic, simple, idea here is great. But it falls short. If instead of bending at an angle they made it go straight up at a 90 with some side reinforcement, it would be better. And the spikes I can see could be an issue the way they are mounted... An adjustable hinged piece on the end with both foam/rubber for hard surfaces and the carpet spikes would be much better. Or just give it an adjustable lip to mount the pedal. I think less concentration on making it compact and more on a better more universal design. I'm a little disappointed and at the price when you see what you are really getting, not great. Just a matter of time before Amazon has Chinese knock offs somehow skirting any patents that may be in place. These must cost less than $10 to manufacture.

    I saw the tour in 1992, in Cincinnati. One of the best shows that I ever saw. Ozzy's band was awesome that night at the late Cincinnati Gardens in the summer of 1992. They also opened with Paranoid, and I Don't Want To Change The World was the 2nd song. Ugly Kid Joe and Faster Pussycat opened. I saw Randy again with Ozzy in Dayton four years later. I recall alot from that show at the Gardens.

    Just set mine up on a DW9000 double pedal (Arguably one of the more popular pedal models right?) and it installed pretty well, but the beater is just too long, even all way into the pedal. I have to scoot the practice pad as far as I can out of the mount while still being able to clamp down on it and the beater still just barely hits the bottom of the practice pad. I'm also having the same issue as the commenter with the angle, I also don't have the full throw of the beater. I'm sure I can mess with it and ultimately get it to work, but I was really wow'd by the convenience and quick install factor of this product. Meh. A little disappointed.

      @TheRealHowardYates Před rokem

      It's potentially a great product but seems like it was either rushed in production or not much thought was given regarding different plate/clamp positions. There's too much work involved for something that gives the impression of just hook up and play. Hope you find that it works out for you. Maybe some improvements will be made over time. I haven't bothered with it much since I launched this video and I won't purchase another one.

    just received mine today and there is a huge problem in the beater design. They didn't design the angle right and/or the device itself is so tall, it prevents the full throw of the beater. You have to stop soo short of vertical! You'll actually be training with bad technique. I'm going to attempt to bend it further to fix the problem. 🤞🤞

    • @Nigel-nv3lr
      @Nigel-nv3lr Před rokem

      I got mine today too, I was thinking of bending the beater back some, but then I realized I could adjust the notch that the spring hooks to, and move the entire beater itself further back, so you're getting the full throw of the beater. (granted the footboard will be slightly higher up but I doubt that'll be too noticeable)

    • @TheRealHowardYates
      @TheRealHowardYates Před rokem

    • @TheRealHowardYates
      @TheRealHowardYates Před rokem

      Right. It's great in concept, poorly executed in design. It should be plug in and play. Or put on and play. That's what I expected. Unfortunately, I ended up making this video to show its flaws.

    • @Nigel-nv3lr
      @Nigel-nv3lr Před rokem

      @@TheRealHowardYates I used an iron cobra 200, and I was able to turn the pedal back far enough to get a realistic range of motion. It's a great idea but it would be better if you could adjust the angle of the metal, so it could just plug into any pedal, then adjust the angle of the pad to ensure it always lines up square with the beater, no matter the pedal

    • @TheRealHowardYates
      @TheRealHowardYates Před rokem

      @@Nigel-nv3lr You shouldn't have to do that. That is a problem. I wanted to use this at a gig for warming up but if I have to make adjustments to the pedal so it works with the kick pad, I don't have time, nor would I want to readjust the settings to get it back to playing position. It should be simple as they present it. Switch beaters. Hook it up. Play. Nope.

    • @TheRealHowardYates
      @TheRealHowardYates Před rokem

      Thanks for writing, Ryan! To be honest, I don't do a lot of rim shots except for on songs like Folsom Prison. The shock from those few rim shots, however, aren't as hard on the hands because of the weight and thickness. It absorbs well. Rim clicks, which I do a lot of, are pretty much the same as any other stick but it depends on which end of the stick are you holding when doing the click or cross-stick. It's slightly more work on the hand if you flip the stick, using the butt end to play on the rim. It does cut better with volume using the butt end on the rim as opposed to playing the click with the shoulder. Hopefully my experience helps you!

  • @zeichner42

    Thanks for the review! I bought mine in September (during a sale, so it wasn't full price) and I think they made a few changes since the initial release. However, I didn't save my box, so I can't say for certain how the packaging may have changed. Now, they are definitely directing customers to a set-up video (they sent a link in an email after I placed my order). I agree that the QuietKick doesn't work well with all pedals. I tried it first with a Sonor pedal & the beater hit at an angle on the bottom edge of the pad. It's felt OK, but the fact that it wasn't hitting square in the middle of the pad bugged me. It works best with my DW3000 pedal. One of my biggest complaints is with the spurs, which mainly seem to be there to support the pad (which otherwise sits a half-inch off the floor). Ideally, the spurs would be angled so they point to the front, to better prevent the pad from sliding forward. There is definitely room for improvement if they decide to revise the design. They should start by testing the design with several different types of pedal, to be sure that it works with a majority of them.

    • @TheRealHowardYates
      @TheRealHowardYates Před rokem

      You're welcome and thanks for watching! You're absolutely correct. It's not designed with every pedal in mind. Nor is the one from Gibraltar. DW's overall fit good on both kick pads I have but other pedals require more maintenance, such as adding paper or little cardboard pieces to change the angle or get a secure bite on the plate. I think Drumeo has a potentially awesome product, but out of the gate, it's not working well for me. I'll try to find the link you mentioned about making adjustments. I spent a lot of time on it before making my review. Hopefully they have something for me that will work. I still haven't received notice about the second beater to purchase, either. Thanks so much for watching this review and communicating with me about your experience with the Quirt Kick. Howard.

    Very good summary. Could not agree more with your comments about the "Snowblind" drums. Those big smashes make the song. That's the part when I listen to Vol. 4 that I do the Ozzy V salute in time to those out the car sunroof. Same thing on "Black Sabbath." Tommy is trying to create order and some sense of normal "rock" meter behind those songs but that's not what Sabbath was about. As Ward says himself, "I'm an orchestral drummer." Yes, Aldridge tears it up on "Wizard," "Iron Man," "War Pigs." And some outrageous stuff on "Fairies Wear Boots." But as the years went by I lost all interest in this album. The music just doesn't sound right in the hands of even those exceptional players. It sounds like what it is - a professional hack job done in a hurry to fulfill a contract.

What I'm finding with this is what you mentioned about the reso head. Other heads like the Superkick allow the drum to sing with the reso head allowing it give a cannon-like sound with decay. Not the EMAD. Having the reso head without dampening seems to takeaway the articulation of the EMAD, working against its purpose. It's going back on the maple kit for the next few shows. Good to hear from you, John! Thanks for watching, commenting, and sharing your EMAD experience.

    • @TheRealHowardYates
      @TheRealHowardYates Před 2 lety

      Yeah. I don't understand the difference between early Sabbath vs. a completely different group who played the same songs. Speak of the Devil doesn't have the same crunch and bottom-end as Live Evil. The original recordings of these songs are also heavy and dirty and brutal as crafted by its writers (Tony and Geezer). Speak of the Devil is "cleaner" than early Sabbath's sound and that of Live Evil by comparison of performers, equipment, and recording. Hence "more polished". They weren't a tribute band trying to copy Sabbath's sound and being tone deaf in the process. It was their interpretation, their gear, given minimal time to rehearse, and having to work for someone that fulfilled a contractual obligation to a record label. Doesn't mean it's better than the source material, either, but some of the cuts on here, such as Symptom of the Universe, sound better to me and I prefer these versions over the originals. Not all, of course. I'm making a comparison to the sound which is my interpretation based on the comparison I hear. But, whatever your taste or opinion, I prefer this recording over Live Evil. Thanks for watching and commenting! Stay positive.

      @@blakedmc1989HD Thanks! It's a Pearl Masters Custom I got in 2014. Those maple shells are heavy in comparison to the birch Mapex kit I have. The birch kick drum is literally half the weight of the Masters kick, even though they're both 18"x22".

    wtf? You must be using arrow heads for beaters...even Eloy cassagrande's batter would last one set..and he is a animal!

      If you're talking about how I took out an Aquarian in 3 songs? I didn't have a slam pad to protect it. But, yes, I kick like a mule, or at least I did 20 years ago. Now, not so much.

      I don't know if they do now because I haven't bought Aquarian heads in 5 or 6 years. That Aquarian head has a pad on it similar to the Remo Falams kevlar pads. It's made by Aquarian, too. And I had to buy it separately.

    The heavier, wider stick gives me more finger control. I like the Promark marching hickory.

    Good vid! When I was playing in rock and metal bands, I always felt that 3A's were the perfect balance between speed and power, especially at smaller venues when I had to keep up with the rest of the band that cranked it up to 11 - they were the most forgiving. The shorter neck and barrel gave me more power. 5B's and 2B's were too heavy for speed, 5A's and anything smaller just made me feel like a child, not enough power. After my metal days, my go to stick was the Travis Barker signature from Zildjian but I'm going to give the 3A's another go for my retired electronic home drumming :)

      So to update on this.... The 3A's turned up. They're slightly heavier than the Travis Barker sticks which are just that little bit faster. But they're still really decent for hard hitters that still want a bit of speed.
