Hey Glenn! Loving your videos and playing, great stuff! I too am a Gretsch fan and have a COB snare, I love it, but find I need to tame the ring with gaff tape/moingels etc. I’ve tried tuning it out, and nothing seems to help. I notice in this video, it’s wide open and sounds great. What heads are you using? And is your snare set up stick with the 42 strand wires etc? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Hey Matt! Yeah I have the 42’s still on there and my go to head is a UV1. It’s ringing for days but I can kind of control it from where I hit the drum. Sometimes I put a small piece of gaf if it’s too much for the song, or just use another snare. Let me know how you go 👍

G'day Glenn - I've been A/Bing your Brooklyn Videos next to the USA Custom backline vid you posted a while back. Any reflections on the similarities/differences between the two? Now that you've had a bit of time to explore the Brooklyn, are you happy you went that way instead of the USAC? I suspect that a fair bit of it comes down to the die cast hoops (as I can't imagine there's too much sonically between 6 ply 30º maple/poplar with silver sealer and 6 ply 30º maple/gum with silver sealer...) - and then there's the price difference. Anyways - a penny for your thoughts. I own a 12, 14, 18 Brooklyn, and am about to order a 10,12,14,16,20 Cat Club - but the USA Custom is always on the list.
Great sizes on your Brooklyn 🤩. So, I think I can respectfully say the Broadkasters are their own beast, I can really hear that. There is no way I could blind test a USA vs Brooklyn. Not a chance. If all goes well though, I am hoping to snag a USA custom this year. In some… let’s say… unfashionable sizes 🤪 and that’s what I really see in the USA line, customisation. Have you checked out Archibald Ligonnière from France? Incredible musician 🙌. He has a great YT. His USA kit sounds nothing like that one I hired. We are polar opposites when it comes to our philosophies on how a drum kit should sound. I bet I could make his kit sound like that black USA custom though. So I agree with you, there are so many variables that go beyond the wood 👍

I’m currently using studio one 6 with a Presonus 1818 interface. Close micing each drum. I set up a bedroom with packing blankets to get a really dead room. I’m just using stockplug-ins.

The tuning couldn't get ANY better than that. This is why i play Gretsch. Everytime i play,, ppl compliment my drums. And i just have a Catalina Club Mahogany with a 20" bass drum. It sounds like a kit WAAAAY more expensive.
