i love how he lets his kids think he got out on his own like macguiver by stacking rocks when really he had to be rescued too hahaha
I’ve never heard someone say “high ground” so many times at the bottom of a canyon.
I'd give the folks here some slack, they aren't from the area and aren't intimately familiar with hazards they have never experienced before. Internet is always willing to dogpile on anyone who gets in a spot of trouble. If everyone was as on top of things as comment sections want there would be no need for emergency services at all.
Thank the Lord you escaped 🙏🙏🙏🙏 You saved your family! I’m so very sorry people were lost in this tragedy! As hard as it was, your responsibility was your family. There was no was you could have helped that couple. Thank heavens they ere OK. Simply terrifying! Energetic youngsters 😅
I don’t want to super thanks to your channel
Thanks for watching
Incredible footage. I live in Arizona, and it's unfortunate that it is pretty common for people to get killed in flash flood season here during the monsoons. I am a first responder and have, on a couple of occasions, had to look for lost people. Thank God he watched over you that day.
You stopped at exactly the right time, you listened to your gut. Flash floods are scary. In AZ washes fill in under a minute.
Yeah it was our last stop before getting washed out.
Theres a reason why the post signs! One thing i taught my wife is always pay attention to weather!!!!

Not to be a dick, but just so you are aware- it is pronounced Kingman..
@@Sera.marie.123 thanks for sharing the correction. I thought that’s what I said but could be heard differently. Appreciate it.
sad to see how clueless and unprepared motorists are.
@@77uhlen this spot is visited by hundreds of people daily. Other than taking lots of water it’s not a back country spot like to the north or south.
Are you out of your mind? I’ll stay with the truck, big tough guy. Your life is more important than any stupid truck! You’re in a damned monsoon flash flood. Yes right over your head is clear, but that water could have come from miles away and could again. Here in Arizona we have a “Stupid Motorists Law” if you need to be rescued because you are “stupid” you have to pay for the rescue. And first responders, helicopters, and road graders aren’t inexpensive.
@@jwall6006 relax the road crew were on their way that’s why I stayed with the truck. This was a historic event much worse than average. Sixty people got surprised by this.
Awesome adventure! I'm glad everyone made it out without injury 👍
Warm fuzzy feelings are a very strange way to debrief and share this nearly fatal and completely avoidable situation. You barely touch upon failing to look at weather beyond the canyon (where flash foods are so easily forecast before they become dangerous). If you took that seriously, thousands of dollars and safely of rescue crew would have been spared. Consider editing in some of that message for future families heading out on vacation.
Your wife is cheating on you
All you had to do is.. go UP'' dont be a fool.
Putting family at risk for not being smart
Grew up in that desert. Learned several nevers at a young age. Never stay on low ground if there is rain anywhere visible. Even if it is a single cloud raining on the horizon, flash floods can travel for tens of miles. I have seen floods when no clouds were in the sky. Never go off paved roads without a pick, shovel, axe, and chainsaw. I have helped rescue people who had been stranded for a week because of a downed tree. Never go anywhere without knowing the weather to expect. If you are out of cell service, backtrack. Make sure you have extra gas. Make sure you have water if is going to be hot, blankets if it is going to be cold, etc. carry extra food and the means to cook it. Always carry detailed paper maps and a compass, and learn how to use them. There was a case recently where a 60 year old couple died because their motor home had a flat, and they got lost trying to hike out. They were 5 miles from the nearest paved road, but they wandered in circles. Never ignore the warning signs in national/state parks. They were put there because of someone having a real bad day. Never take a vehicle somewhere it wasn’t designed to go just because you think you are a good driver. Motor homes and sports cars are for paved roads only. Never go anywhere without telling someone where you are going and when to expect to see you again. The desert is very scenic and from the road seems not far from civilization. In reality it is a huge wilderness and is extremely hostile if you aren’t prepared.
Should've checked the weather. But if you did, you wouldn't have this incredible story lol. Glad that you all made it out.
All I see is a man who put his family in danger
8:55 I am not sure if it was clever to lower the window at this point.
“So it’s pretty common in a wilderness area, we didn’t get a chance to check the weather report”. Didn’t get a chance or didn’t take the time? guess you know now the importance of checking weather BEFORE going down into a gorge where you’ll have no connection. So glad you and your family got out alive and all the folks there were rescued.
Will be watching this!
AMERICAN HISTORY 🇺🇸 AMERICAN PRIDE
Living life to its fullest involves taking risks. We can never be aware of the true risks, but the ability to learn from mistakes makes us human. Half the people criticizing probably haven't left their county
WOW SO MUCH HATE FOR THESE PEOPLE , IM GLAD THEY GOT OUT , WHAT AN ADVENTURE. AND JESUS SAID MATTHEW 22:39 LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF
All these adults and not one bothered to look into the weather forecast? This clown needs to eat more than his words.
City people thinking they are wilderness experts is generally what gets people in these situations
Idiot on a Trip...
This is fn intense!!!
The proper title for this video is "The idiot's guide to how NOT to hike in the Gorges!"
This is an, Ignorance is bliss situation. Thanks for sharing.
This looks like a place I went with Donna and Steve. The gorge is built from these floods. This is so sad I haven't even watched it yet. Knowing what's to come to these poor people.
I loved this video! Congratulations to you for an amazing accomplishment: You saved your family, your kids got a ride in a helicopter(!), you made an awesome video of the experience, and you laid it all out, the good and the bad, for everyone to watch. You knew you were inviting a bunch of self-righteous scolds to clog up your comments section with their idiocies, but you swallowed hard and did it anyway. There will be family memories of this trip that will outlive you. Good for you, good for your family. And thanks from me.
I think this is a valuable documentation. It appears to be, and it reads very honest. The presenter is easy to acknowledge his mistakes and appears to really want to learn and to be helpful to others. That cheery, positive, relaxed, Utah, way seems on display. I want to say it's a tribal Mormon thing, but I don't want to say it. It's simply too refreshing.
This is the equivalent of taking on Mount Washington without checking the weather first 🤦♀️
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂 dumbasses!!!
Kind of dumb but🤷♀️ i dont get why you'd even go there when it rains, of course that would happen
Nice adventure. My wife and I just got back from a 2 week AZ vacation with a rented Jeep Rubicon. Nothing quite as adventurous as yours through. Peace.

Let’s remember that this adventure was done courtesy of taxpayers who picked up the tab for the rescue effort and helicopter ride.
@@FredrickII you don’t want rescuers to save people’s lives from rare natural disaster events? I hope you won’t need their help but I’m happy to pay them.

@@bigmfg24-7 thanks for sharing. Hopefully not life threatening.
Even if you didn’t check the weather…you had plenty of if time to get back in your truck and into a safe area when it started storming.
@@Tunky150 for this type of event there’s no “safe” area. The main road also got flooded. Better to not be in Capitol Reef at all.
