Registrace 16. 11. 2013
This channel contains content from a local install of EQ Emulator, boxing 54 characters on raids from Scars of Velious and on. We'll deep dive into raids, scripts, team makeup, and GM command considerations for quality of life updates. We'll go over loot assigning and priority, buffs, debuffs, and other things that can be used with a large box team, small box team, or even when you play on Live with others. Enjoy!
EverQuest 54-Boxing Vulak Aerr, North Temple of Veeshan, Scars of Velious
This is a local install of EQ Emulator where I have assembled a raid team of 54 characters at level 60 to take on Vulak Aerr, the final boss of North Temple of Veeshan.
The characters are mostly geared in Kael/Skyshrine quest armor, with some Vex Thal, Vulak, Ssra, and Dozekar gear.
The MacroQuest macro library, e3, was used to create the scripts that control these characters, which can be found on Project EverQuest's forums.

Bro let me get in on some of these raids with you lol.
Wowsers, 54 boxing? I never even was able to kill those dragons back in the day.
Fired up my eqemu's because of your vids lol thanks for bringing the nostalgia back again. btw how do you do raid invites?
why are the graphics different from my client? Especially shadows and lighting? Playing on Teeks with the classic graphics on.
Hey there - this is using the Rain of Fear client. I'm wondering if that's why?
My computer can't open 54 instances of notepad...
I think each EQ client takes up 350-400 MB of RAM, so 64 GB is more than enough to handle it. I imagine 32 GB could do a team of 30 easily
One of those toons had a gloomingdeep lantern in offhand slot...
Some of them are horribly neglected. Any chance you caught which one it was?
@@EverQuestBoxRaids Lol not a clue. I just thought it was funny.
Considering boxing, I would categorize it as a challenge fight. I am glad it is doable with your big raid. Great job showing us it can be done.
Absolutely, he's awful lol. Cursed in Ssra Temple is another challenge fight with his AOE charm and nasty AOE DoT
Great watching takedowns on mobs i never got to experience. Thanks!
Glad you're enjoying the videos!
Can kill motg with 6 people. 54? Jesus man.
6 people at level 60? I'd love to hear the strat!
i know nothing of this game but im intrigued, I box wow classic era, its illegal. I'm a bad person.
Ha, I'm sure plenty of people are boxing "illegally"
amazing
Thanks!
my god does this bring back memories, some 23 years ago getting this chestplate for my bard on Morrell Thule. All my best gaming memories are from EQ.
There was this mostly-Asian guild on Luclin that took out Vindi with like 24 people back when Velious was new and a lot of the server was in awe because most of the raiding guilds would raid with 60+
Awesome! Check into waypoints for the jousting. You can set one spot as a waypoint and you can send toons to that specific location. You can make another waypoint and you can toggle between them, send toons from spot to spot like to joust or avoid AEs
Ooohhh I'll have to look into that at some point.
I did see instructions to record a joust path for casters as a macro but yeah, your method much easier if geared right. Grats on a hard boxed takedown. Is it possible to take cazic thule with the fear, levitate, and deathtouch? I do not see any videos on it that is boxed? On eqemu this is pre-motm?
Recording waypoints is probably the best way to do things, but it sure is easy to sit there and try to over-gear the AOEs lol
it's not a fact of finding a group... they way you're playing here, to each their own. You're on a private server no one else can even access, do what you like. The real problem with MQ2 on the LIVE servers, are the people who choose to use MQ to control named/boss spawns to get the loot to sell, controlling the "open market" so no one else even has a chance. These bot group sit all over the place on some servers with no one even at the keys farming endlessly collecting the ultra-rare drops, again, controlling the market of the servers and krono. It's gotten HORRIBLE for those of us (like you) who love the game and just want to play, but cant because of the MQers who are trying to make a living playing EQ.
It has gotten pretty bad which is why I exited TLP servers. I will say that I 6-box on Live but I mind my own business and stick to older expansions. I was doing group-content progression starting around DoDH for some time. I got stuck at UF because of how hard it is. That's when I decided to make my own server. I have a 6-man group on a separate instance where loot is 6x'd to make it a bit easier since I don't have a raid team on that server
If you send a mage pet in early to pre build agro on the perma rooted dragons dave will have an easier time keeping agro.
I think the perma root on the emulator works differently than Live but I will have to try that. Thanks!
Found your channel by chance and I actually enjoyed looking back at a NToV fight I haven’t done in 24 years. 54 box is 🫡. Most I ever did was 4 on two computers lol.
I started with 2 boxing, then 3, then 6, then 12, then 54. It's interesting, once you've boxed a group, boxing a raid isn't much different with scripts. The logistics is more the challenge (what classes to make, what groups to put them in, what gear to give who and why, etc)
Keep 'em coming bro! I watch every video haha
Ha thanks! More videos are in the queue and I've been meaning to sit down to record more.
@@EverQuestBoxRaids Do you have to have a B.A. computer to do this? or is there a way to make it so a computer can run 54 boxes haha
i was in a small family type guild and still remember killing vindi for first time, was a great moment, wenton eventually to kill aow as we grew in numbers. Never had that pride and excitement in any other game. I may look into boxing like this myself , fun way to relive the glory days
Heck yeah. I don't have time to raid with a group of people anymore, so I do it on my own. Great way to remember back in the day when I was younger.
i have never played EQ and im a WoW andy, but! I randomly stumbled across your videos, and i thoroughly enjoyed watching the content. Keep up the great work, and love the narration.
Glad you're enjoying it!
Great pulling, easy take downs, and really appreciate sharing command tips on bca tell. Steep learning curve on E3 as a noob. Thanks Dave. Keep making the raids.
No problem! I learn new things all the time with e3 and MQ2. I'm hardly an expert outside of the niche raiding I do.
These videos are awesome. Thanks!
Glad you like them!
Love the updates
Thanks!
Until which expansion can one play on this local repack? (or at least until which expansion the game is playable without too many scripts lacking and bugs). So far I'm aware the community is advancing towards DoN I'm also wondering if there's a way to tune down the power of raid targets? Cuz 54 boxes seems way too much haha, I'd be comfortable boxing maybe 12 characters at most. Nonetheless this looks interesting, this is PEQ, right? Or something else?
This is a repack of PEQ on my own computer running locally. OoW is the latest full expansion with DoN being worked on. As far as tuning down the raid mobs, I don't know how to individually update each mob, but you can definitely make your raid stronger with server settings - such as 5x the HP/Mana regen or make 10x the loot drops so you can gear up super fast. There are a lot of things you can alter in the server settings to make a smaller team more powerful.
@@EverQuestBoxRaids Alrighty, thanks for taking the time to reply. Will check things out! Also, do you use 54 accounts, or is it a bunch of bots?
54 accounts/clients/scripts, no bots.
Great watching your raids. The whole reason I am diving back into EQ1. Got auto login setup for 1 group. I will add more to fill in raid as I get comfortable switching around accounts. I never played most classes. Always warrior, cleric, shaman.
My favorite 6-man combo is SK, Enc, Clr, Brd, Mag, Wiz. Others that work well include SK Shm Brd Ber Ber Ber or SK Shm Brd Wiz Wiz Wiz. SKs are generally the best 1-group tank just because they have a lot of utility and survivability.
Excited to see another update. Started my server today. Working on some technical details/issues
What type of issues?
Spanked Rumblecrush. I will keep this boss in mind to get geared up early on.
He's a real pushover - barely break a sweat, even when undergeared
Great job Dave. Seeing content for the first time. Good to know strats. Eventually i will learn the peel tank macro. As boxer, better to ae mez or peel adds on group content you think say in kynark seb/ chardok?
If you're boxing an army, mez is usually unnecessary unless you're breaking into a zone like PoFear where you can get overwhelmed. If you're boxing a smaller army or a single group, mez is king
What he means by "the problem" is that people who DON'T want to multi like this can't get groups because of this.
Not at all true. Boxers and non-boxers can co-exist. Many people don't have time to wait for a group because of limited playtime or other reasons. There's also drama that goes with grouping with random people and many of us just want to be left alone to enjoy the game the way we want to play it.
Can you link me your ch rotation macro? Seems if you had a few more clerics in the rot it would have lasted longer.
I don't have it online, but if I get it hosted somewhere, I'll get you a link
Thanks, I think you've got this fight if your cheap chain lasted a bit longer. If you could toss them all into the chain you would have it
Cheap should be cheap, sorry
Boxers are a bane on gaming.
It's just another way to enjoy online gaming. Only a very small percentage of boxers ruin games for others, and you could say the same thing for elitist hardcore raiding guilds that steamroll content and run over other players in the process.
Also I don't see a health of target's target window. Is that not enabled on your server?
For whatever reason, my HoTT window doesn't display. Is there a hotkey that will toggle it?
@@EverQuestBoxRaids There is a hotkey, but damned if I remember what it is...maybe Alt+T...?
I started a bot group on one of the EMU's and I'm not sure how many bots are allowed so currently just one group. Fairly slow xp however which makes it a grind lol. What is YOUR server and do you allow others to play there?
My server is offline so you wouldn't be able to connect. Not having limits and allowing myself to customize the rules a little and also not competing for raid spawns were some of the reasons I made my own server.
@@EverQuestBoxRaids I've been trying to make my own server. Downloaded all the stuff for it, but cant seem to figure out how to log in to it. Have Spire website and world active, but where is log in? Stuff is confusing..
In Spire, there is a Loginserver configuration. Change the loginserver to 127.0.0.1 and then in your eqhost.ini file change the IP address to 127.0.0.1:5999
awesome
Thanks!
So my question was on my main computer i have multiple EQs and MQs with E3s and i was wondering should i use an external drive to download this too or can i download it onto a drive with so many EQs on it?
The server doesn't take up much space. I think the database averages 256 MB.
Keep these video's coming. Fascinating watching this content.
Videos for almost the entire month of July (3 per week) are already queued. Stay tuned!
I'm ready to make my own server! These videos rock!
Rock on!
Hot take, this is actually on live.
Great breakdown, I did not realize I was playing on projected server. For complete local, do I change every address to the local IP on eqemu, login, and eq client host? I have local login server enabled in spire.
Yes, you can set the IP address to your local LAN IP, which can be found from a CMD prompt by typing ipconfig. For your database and login server, I believe you want to use 127.0.0.1 but don't quote me as I'm currently not at home. You can check the Spire guide for more info
Can you have project 1999 and eq live client on same drive ?
Absolutely. I have multiple EQ installs on my computer
woop. thanks for this!
You bet!
Hello! As an example! [Cures] Cure=Remove Greater Curse/Juicybox/checkfor|Balance of Zebuxoruk/zone|ssratemple (this line checks just 1 box for this debuff in SSRA, and uses RGC if found). CureAll=Pure Blood/gem|3/checkfor|Greater Shadow Poison/zone|vexthal (this line checks *every* box in VT for this debuff and uses Pure Blood in gem 3 if found). The default priorities of each class's Functions are shown in order, highest to lowest, in Advanced Settings.ini in the e3 Macro INIs folder. More functionality can be added to classes with this file (though be sure they have a section, even if blank, added in their INIs if you do add more), as well as priorities changed. As it seems you've already noticed, healers can call whoever they want a "Tank" or "ImportantBot" so you can do some interesting overlapping of healing priorities. Several Shamans can consider your Enchanters and Wizards "Tanks" to help with pbaeing, for instance. Mage pet weapons I give to pets as: a dagger first (some pets are Rogues, after all), any other weapon 2nd, Muzzle of Mardu, Crystal Belt/Girdle of Magi`Kot; so 4 lines. Takes a bit... but I only run 3 or 4 pet classes. Not sure about the 1.0/charges thing. I haven't personally done that one (their 1.5 prequest was very fast). If you have not come across it yet, the PEQ user Chance has made an incredible guide, on e3 specifically, here: tinyurl.com/chance650 It is *VERY* worth looking into MQ2's built-in Profiles for autologin, as it is pretty convenient and easy to use once you get it working the first time. The Profiles can be grouped so that 2 clicks launches whatever combination you've pre-set: right-clicking the MQ2 icon in the Taskbar tray, going to Profiles, one of the grouped ones, and clicking Load All. This guide helps mess with it as it can be finicky, though the info will be different in places due to it being for PEQ vs. a local install: tinyurl.com/chanceautologin (EDIT: I realized after this that you're already using the plugin for password saving. I'm just gonna leave it in here anyway. 😜) Appreciate the video, and good luck Dave! 😁
Rock on - this is super helpful! I played on PEQ for a few years and have spoken to Chance here and there.
Have a few questions. I know the Dain video you mention about giving the belt to whoever Loots the head. What did you decide for epics? I’m very interested in these videos.
For the epics, I chose the ones that are not easy to replace and then I did the raid fights for those quests one time for each class, and then I gave the epics to those characters. For example, for the Warrior epic, I killed Nagafen, Sev, Chardok Royals, and whatever else was involved, and then I gave both my warriors their epics with the #giveitem command. I didn't want to spend countless hours getting epics that most would be replaced by PoP
I enjoy watching the harder velious content like this. Have you tried Tunare?
I skipped Tunare because at the time I didn't want to spend 2-3 hours clearing PoG to probably wipe to her. I'm probably going to circle back to her when I reach the tail end of my Luclin recordings.
nice run, learning these fights is the fun part and gearing the raid will steadily make it easier. Thanks for posting
Rock on!
The struggle is real. AoW is a beast.
I found out a week after I recorded this that my wizards were chain-fizzling concussion until they would run out of mana. So they would each nuke 2-3 times, and then run out of mana. I fixed the problem and AoW became a lot easier to kill because I could use a tight CH rotation and kill AoW before the clerics were spent.
Love this. I want to try my own server
My first technical video is coming out on Friday. I'll make a follow-up video based on the comments and questions
Victory! Quick takedown. Appreciate all the insights. Very helpful.
Glad you're enjoying the videos!
Any chance you offer help to make our own server or whatever? This is awesome, I played EQ for years and would love to have some admin controls, I'm ready to see behind the curtain 😅
or maybe video idea? (hint hint) a friend and i just want to 2box in peace and see what we can tackle quad-duoed
"What are the specs of your computer to be able to handle so many characters?"
Most importantly 64 gb of RAM and a SSD. Video card doesn't need to be great. CPU can be average as well.
I will running pretty much this same set up. I got a private server and set it up on my server machine. Ran a 54 man raid as well. I was doing great until I started getting some major lag issues. I have some type of hardware issue that is causing the lag/stutter. It would happen around the time I loaded my 20th client up. I was working through Kunark content when I had to stop. This is the second time this has happen for me. Last time it was a hard drive issue. I might have a solution for you though on a few of those fights. A mechanic that might allow you to move your casters back and forth to avoid some aoe's... not tried it yet myself but was going to when i got my system back up and running.
I was thinking of making 2 characters stand in 2 places - one in casting line of sight, one hidden, and then making hotkeys to make all the casters run back and forth. Is that similar to what you did?
@@EverQuestBoxRaids Yeah that is what I was planning. Two bards considering they barely do any DPS at all. However switching back and forth will be a pain. I was going to research if there was a way to command that all to happen from my main client.
/bct bard1 //followme /only|casters ... same thing for bard2. Replace with the names of the bards. Make hotkeys on the main character
I wouldn't even be able to think of 54 names....
It took a while to come up with them
