      Actually, no. If you simply pour boiling hot water on top of regular oatmeal (not instant, and not the steel cut variety), you'll find the grains to be fully cooked within about fifteen to twenty minutes.

    If you want to make this a bit healthier and vegan, use Bob's Red Mill steel-cut oats or Scottish oatmeal, substitute date or coconut sugar (stevia or Trulia) or agave nectar for the sweetener, soy protein for the whey, and both Pyrex and Anchor Hocking have small glass containers with rubber lids so heated plastic will not leach into your food. You can pre-mix the spices to your liking as well and keep them in a separate jar. I've used dehydrated green apples, bananas, blueberries, blackberries, cherries, cranberries, coconut, dates, grapes, mangoes, peaches, persimmons, pineapple, raspberries and strawberries (all from Just Tomatoes online and no added preservatives in any of them). Nuts include walnuts, almonds, cashews and sometimes sunflower seeds (no salt added). This is a great idea for work, school or anywhere you have access to hot water. I also carry teabags with me in my favorite flavors. Just some suggestions, sir. And I'm 66 and a 2-time cancer survivor.

  • @345kobi

    I just tried your oatmeal. It is the best oatmeal I ever tasted. I did the recipe in a heavy corning ware bowl but had to put it on the stove after 15 minutes to absorb all of the water. The only change in recipe was using coconut sugar. I felt portion-wise I should only eat half at a time as I'm a diabetic. I wanted to eat the whole thing as it was so yummy! Thanks and I'll have a look at your blog. It might be too riske for me but we'll see.

    Plastic can be absorbed into your food. Plastic is now being questioned as an input into men having problems having children. Yeah.. laugh if you will, but Plastic has estrogen the female hormone in it, this can cause a lot of problems for men. Also for women in getting such illnesses as Endometriosis (main cause is having too much of the hormone estrogen) also can be linked to some cancers. NEVER drink water from a plastic bottle that has been left in your car in the heat. This is the quickest way for the plastic to be absorbed into the water. Dont believe me, look it up. Use glass containers if at all possible. ☺

    • @NastyClamps
      @NastyClamps Před 9 lety

      If you have full-on diabetes, you probably shouldn't be eating oatmeal in the first place. All oatmeal will cause your blood sugar to shoot up, added sugar or not, though instant oatmeal is truly awful, awful stuff.

    • @JohnLennon100
      @JohnLennon100 Před 9 lety

      NastyClamps Wrong. Non sugar added Oatmeal is actually good for diabetes. What is bad it's all the sugar that you put on it, including the dried fruits.

    • @NastyClamps
      @NastyClamps Před 9 lety

      Lino Vassallo Errrrrrhhhh... No. If you have a glucose meter at home for testing your blood sugar (and I actually do happen to have a glucose meter), you'll find that regular oatmeal is not "good for diabetes." It's certainly much less bad than instant oatmeal. But if I were a person with Type 1 diabetes, or had Type 2 to the point where I needed to monitor my blood glucose levels several times a day, then I wouldn't be chowing down on oatmeal of any sort.

      Eating healthy does not only mean to ingest healthy foods. There are some labeled healthy foods that contain tons of sugar. Sugar is not healthy. As a consequence, you're killing the good properties by adding bad properties. It just does not make sense. But it also depends on your lifestyle, how much exercise you make, etc.
