I've just recently upgraded my mini Lathe with an 750W Sewing machine Servo Motor and installed angular contact bearings, because they're sealed and with that i also installed a set of metal gears. For the motor-to-headstock transmission i went with an HTD timing belt because this motor has so much torque that the original belt and pulleys would have immediately stripped.
