Can this really do a "blackout"? That is total darkness in the room?
It can, however, you would need a proper side channel running on both sides which is U shaped. You can find U shapes channels at most hardware stores, cut it to size and then run the blackout fabric through it.

Typically dusting or vacuuming. If there are stains you might have to look for a specialized dry cleaner.

They can be inside mounted as well.
Can you control the shades through the google home app?
Yes, once you add them to a compatible hub and then add them to google home. One note, the shade would need to come up as a dimmer switch since google for some reason disables control in app on shaes.

Inside mount would use the same brackets and you would simply screw in to the top of the window frame. The rest of the steps would be the same.

The command is “turn off” when your closing the shades? That’s expected from a DIY version, not when I have to pay $99+
Close works as well. Open doesn't simply because google home doesn't allow the open command unless you set a manual trigger for the word open. This is in place to prevent accidental opens of a smart lock.
