All I do is put in cold water bring to boil, simmer 1 min, put lid on and remove for heat - wait for 5 mins ....... lot less fuel. I'll try your peeling method.

First, I puncture both ends of the eggs with an egg piercer. Then, I put the eggs in water, THEN add heat. I boil for 6 minutes then shock. Works for me and saves a bunch of time. PS 993 = "EGG" upside-down. 5993 = EGGS

And now soft cooking.

Half an inch of water in a pot, bring to a boil. Using a corkboard type pin (or any pin), pierce a hole in the fat end of your (room temp) eggs. Place the eggs gently into the boiling water, place the lid on the pot. Set a timer for 6 minutes, and boil. When the timer goes off, put the pot under cold running water. Done, perfect jammy yolks 🤤 80% less energy usage boiling just a half inch of water.

Hacker #399 is WRONG that adding salt lowers boil point!!! "The exact temperature depends on the concentration of salt. For a typical saltwater solution (like seawater, which is about 3.5% salt), the boiling point is around 102°C, slightly higher than the 100°C boiling point of pure water." Boiling point lowers at higher elevations!

I see so many different methods and suggestions here. I have the perfect solution! Buy them boiled and peeled! It's an easy alternative to the guessing games and a great time saver. I also suggest the "DASH" Egg Cooker. Perfect eggs many different ways every time!

I cook mine in boiling water right out of the fridge for 15 minutes- I HATE runny yokes! If you poke a small hole in the round end of the egg,you will NEVER see white leak out into the water,which happens with some eggs. When done,I run cold tap water in the pot,and they are ready. I have a bulletin board near the stove where I keep a pushpin for poking the holes in the eggs.

Eggs in pan. Cold water in pan 2” over eggs. Boil for 2 minutes. Turn heat off. Leave eggs in pan on hot stove for 10 minutes. Drain most of the water. “Slosh” eggs in pan with little water to break shells. Peel eggs when cool enough to touch under cold water.

I assume that your Chemistry teacher DID NOT give you an A!! lol You had the effect of adding the salt to water completely WRONG! It is freezing point depression and boiling point elevation! Salt is added to streets in snowy environments to prevent the snow from icing and when added to water increases the boiling point!! I would have given you a D-! lol

I put eggs in insta pot for 4 or 5 min, then put in cold water. They peels easier than that! Sometimes shells splits if half in 2 pieces!

Hate to tell Rick' You overcooked the eggs. The yolks had a green tinge on the outside and the yolks are dry and chalky This is a direct result of overcooking. You get the best result if you boil them for only six minutes, then ice water bath. The result is a well cooked egg with creamy yolk center.

Time is right if you like the yoke fully cooked. Subtract 1 minute per your own liking. 8 minutes for soft-boiled egg. The ice really isn’t necessary. Just dump the boiling water and replace it a couple times with cold tap water. The real key to easy-peel eggs is; peel them right away. If you put them back in the fridge unshelled, you may (or may not) have trouble. Running water is also helpful.

I poke a needle hole in the large end of the eggs before lowering them into the hot water. It allows the heated air in the egg to escape and the egg won't crack. Also, I heat the water to the point of seeing small bubbles rise and not to the boiling point. leave 12 minutes and drop into iced water before peeling.

Once you eat a soft boiled egg you will never eat a hardboiled egg again. Bring water to a boil, put the eggs in for 6-7 minutes only. Whites will all be perfectly cooked and the yolk only slightly and running center... they are amazing if you like yolky eggs.
