Ach, Leerdam, waar in 1966 mijn wiegje stond op het wolvenbos. Het kwetternest, de veltmyerschool. Het zwembad waar we hele zomers zaten. De meent, het postkantoor, de markt waar ik met oma en mijn moeder zo vaak geweest ben. Juffrouw Lemmers van de zondagsschool, Mevrouw de Kroon die half Leerdam op de wereld heeft gebracht. De bea, luukie..zoveel fijne herinneringen. De schoolstraat waar we woonden, de owenstraat waar oma woonde, allemaal weg maar voor eeuwig in onze herinneringen. Bedankt Michael voor dit mooie stukje geschiedenis! Wie meer wil zien; zoek eens op ringzegels Leerdam. Een uur Leerdam van 1966.

The volume of Icebergs were tripled that year and before those figures were even reported,the Titanic left for her maiden voyage. I think she was just destined to sink,even if not from an iceberg. A ship should be robust,with a armour belt,only pre-ww1,nobody knew this as of yet. Such a large vessel would need transport supporting vessel ,or come in to close where she loses dexterity of control and hull would endure impacts,only not at 12-22 knots..Hindsight is never a gift we can use ahead if time.

I have seven news papers that my family kept of the sinking, the one that stands out the most is the first newspaper story after the sinking, where they claimed all saved. What a sigh of relief the families must have given, then to have it all snatched away as the realised this wasn't the case.

Let's get this straight, these are not Treasures of the Titanic - This is also the personal and PRIVATE property of individuals that perished, that NO one, NO salvage company, and NO Government as well as their courts have a right to remove from that seabed floor - not unless they have the consent of living relatives. Other wise that is Stealing, and Grave Robbing any way you look at it. The picture with the money fanned out, I've seen pics of Jewelry - that's not anyone's to take, and display, keep, sell or Auction off. I would say under the law its sole ownership and Im sure there is no written transfer death designation. Why is this wreck not treated with the respect, and dignity like the USS Arizona in Hawaii? That's the big question. The USS Arizona memorial is treated as a gravesite, and you don't see anyone picking "treasures" off of that Ship, nor those that perished. Come on people this is a gravesite - let it be. You have no rite to possess the property of those that perished. Leave the graves of the deceased alone - and that includes all the archaeology that's going on anywhere specific to exhuming the dead. Sick Bastards

If it sank on April 14-15th why does one item in here , I’m assuming a boarding pass , say may 31,1911? Omg it’s so haunting to see all this. Without sounding morbid or anything i Wish there wss an actual replica people could walk thru. I think as human beings we’ll always be associated with a desire to be able to understand and look back into the past and things so major like the titanic sinking , bc it was supposed To have been such a solid unbreakable structure , had yet used the Correct rivets in the construction of the ship , it would’ve been able To withstand the force it took .. but the ship was doomed before it ever made its path .. as it was being built it was destined for death and destruction. Every aspect had to be “ right “ in order for the events to happen and it’s just chilling how to think about the years the iceberg may have formed , broken off , traveled and bn picked up by currents , to align in the path of the ship and then on top of that , a ship being close enough to receive the distress calls and see the danger and see the people dying and struggling to survive .. yet doing nothing . .. and despite not enough life boats , it took at least 30 min. To even disassemble them and prep them below deck & yet they under Filled them bc of the dumbest reasons .., too much to take in really. Can’t imagine the horror.

Wow why can't ppl leave stuff alone. The almighty titanic and its unfortunate sinking with all the ppl and dogs that went down with the ship should be left alone!! If it was meant to be back up to the surface than it would smgdh. Wonder how they would like it if someone stole a keepsake on their family member on when they passed.
