Victoria Falls by land and helicopter
We visited Victoria Falls National park and walked along the 1.7 km face of the falls, then took a helicopter flight to see the falls from the air.

The Mahale and Bamboo Valley track
zhlédnutí 275Před 2 lety
We drove the R332 south from Kigoma, along the lakeshore, then a very rough track through Bamboo Valley and inland to join the T9 just north of Katavi National Park. Beautiful bucolic countryside, but also mud. And we got stuck! Check it out @stuckinlowgear Or read the blog post about it here: stuckinlowgear.com/stuck-in-the-mud-on-the-rugged-mahale-bamboo-valley-road/
A visit to Victoria Falls when the Zambezi is in full flow
zhlédnutí 232Před 2 lety
Sometimes people say to not visit the falls when it’s in full flow because you can’t really see it. It’s sort of true, you can’t see the entirety of the 1.7 km (!) of the falls, as you can see in the video. However it’s an amazing demonstration of the power of the falls to visit it like this. My vote, if you’re anywhere even remotely close to Victoria Falls in any season, go.
Driving in Torrential rain and mud in Kimana Sanctuary, Kenya

We went out for a bit of elephant tracking and a tremendous thunderstorm came through. Here is a short video, us driving across soaked black cotton soil (not advised) in heavy rain. You can check out the blog, stuckinlowgear.com/kimana-sanctuary-kilimanjaro-kenya/, for the whole story.
Ruaha National Park - a day of self drive safari in Tanzania
zhlédnutí 3,3KPřed 2 lety
This video is meant to give people an idea, a "day in the life" of what it's like when we're on our self drive safaris. Ruaha National Park can hardly be considered routine, it's beautiful, huge and remote. Watching this you might think we are a bit lion obsessed, but really we just lucked into seeing some lions and getting some information about these prides from guides and film crew, so we se...
Escape from Busanga Plains
zhlédnutí 3,6KPřed 2 lety
Busanga Plains, in Kafue National Park, is an incredible wildlife viewing area, but inaccessible during the rainy season. We camped there, and on the last night it rained all night and we had to drive out in what the camp owner described as "what can be a very tough drive."
Driving the 05, Across Zambia's South Luangwa National Park
zhlédnutí 2,6KPřed 2 lety
The 05 is a rugged dry season only track that many avoid due to how rough it is. However it's also the most direct route between South Luangwa and the Great North Road and many great destinations beyond, so we decided to give it a try. I'd rate it similar in difficulty to Van Zyl's pass, IF you don't include the very steep decent at the end of Van Zyl's. I put this video together so people coul...
Africa 2018 road trip

This video might not be fully representative of our three month Africa road trip, but I think it's pretty good! Especially Jenny's role... Big thanks to Point Ninety Nine Productions (Randy) for putting this together with the very little video I took.

Probably, the 3rd time I've seen this video, but still good! Popped up today and gave it another look! Eileen and myself offroad alone, most of the time, so I understand the consequences if you get stuck in the middle of no where, by yourself....

We stayed at the public campsite No. 1 and No. 2. Both are good, but the ablutions at No 2 are new, whereas No1 is pretty shabby. No 1 is also closer to the ranger camp, so there are occasional cars driving sort of near, but not that close.

Hope the rains helped upstream to feed into Ruaha. There have been some sudden flash floods at times November is the time of "small rains"May /June main rains.

Many other interesting species in Ruaha...prize could be. cheetah Wild dog Lesser Kudu, Roan. Those wee cubs will need to develop skills to deal with that hard animal..buffalo. Lion have been preying on giraffe too especially as the Ruaha has been drier these recent years and buffalo scarcer There is an excellent conservation project in the area to protect lion and stop killings ...Ruaha Carnivore Project However..one gets a somewhat more intense feeling when you encounter them when walking there...or indeed buffalo. The iconic Baobab trees are an important food source for Africana Loxodonta.

@@AlpeshPatel-jh5ti glad you like the blog, thank you. Yes, sounds like we have the same vehicle. We find ours fantastic! Some day I’ll do a more technical post about it. As I’m sure you’ve already heard, try not to overload it. The 79 d/c flaw is too much weight aft of the rear axle. We got stuck five times in a row in Bangweulu wetlands, and I suspect if we were lighter or had better weight distribution we’d have been okay. Blog post on that to follow soon…

@@stuckinlowgear Getting mine built by a pro in Cape Town and he has warned me about the weight issue. I thought about the V8 but backed down given the challenges with fuel quality. I am stripping out the back passenger strips and the weight will predominately be moved between the two axels. The batteries will be in that area and the back will just have a drawer system and 2 40l fridges. Still a way to go on the build as it only starts end of Jan. Would love to hear more on the car layout and any advice you could give on what you did on shocks and springs, bull bar, winch etc.
