Memories my first car I’m now 80 so so different from cars today the cost about £40 to £60

Did the clothes peg and the Tupperware come as standard or only with the deluxe version?

I start mine by cranking it over with the ignition off till it starts to speed up as the oil gets to the bearings. Then switch on the ignition and run at a slightly fast idle for 5 mins before driving it. Seems to give the engine as little stress as possible and prelong it's useable life.

Can’t understand why owners can’t fix the choke on these cars. It’s a fairly simple job. I think there’s other fixes this particular car needs too.

The indicators would stick out from the side of the car. Trafficators are semaphore signals which, when operated, protrude from the bodywork of a motor vehicle to indicate its intention to turn in the direction indicated by the pointing signal.

Very original and quite rare. Excellent cars to restore. Personally I think restoration is essential for proper preservation. Well worth it and not too difficult.

My first car was a 1951 Ford Prefect. Australian assembled. I bought it in New Zealand when I turned fifteen. That was 1971. I paid $90 for it. Probably about $45 too much! The Ozzie assembled model had an extended boot, which made it (at least appear) like a more substantial car. In NZ it was nicknamed the "Rock 'n' Roll" model because of the transverse springs. If you went around a bend at even a modest speed it would "rock" hard over on the springs and if you went any faster it would "roll" over completely! It was old before it was built and by the time it landed in my hands it was well past its use by date. I think I was its thirteenth and final owner! Even so, I remember it fondly❤️

Nice car, I have a 1947 prefect, What mechanical upgrades would you recommend for reliability? Have had problems with starting & i think possible vapour lock (engine will cut out after running for a while)

did they have door rubbers on the prefect?

Expensive car back in the day. Most people would make do with a 1.3L Escort.

Miss mine owned a 1952 tdc with overdrive RPE652 the reg sold it around 2002 had some great times with it and being a member of the owners club !

Thank you for sharing your memories. I have an SD1 Vanden Plas myself and despite the car being 36 years old I drive it daily as its such an enjoyable car.

My first car was a 1948 Morris 8. It would not even do 60mph but I loved it.
