Mushroom Hunting Beautiful Golden Chanterelle Mushrooms
This was my first trip out locally, to check some patches I had found last fall while foraging for Chanterelle Mushrooms. I had heard from friends that they were finding some at lower elevations so I wanted to go see if anything was popping up near me. This is the shortest drive for foraging mushrooms for me, which is 3 minutes from the house.
Took a break from the higher elevations in the Cascade Mountains and switched to searching for both Chanterelles and Lobster mushrooms.
No luck on the Lobsters but the Chanterelles were out for sure. Found several new patches but I was only out for 2 hours. It did not disappoint.
Chanterelles are both Delicious and very Nutritious. We do get some really large fruiting bodies here in the fall and that does fill up your baskets quite well.

      GM. I'm just seeing this now. I got in late from foraging yesterday. What kinds of Mushrooms were you looking to find? Lower elevations would be better as there is a Red Flag Warning for higher elevations. Depends also how far you want to travel. Air quality is not great today as well. Mt Loop has a vast amount of areas to look, but again also your limited to lower elevations. LMK what you were thinking happy to try and point you in the right direction. As always though be safe no matter what you decide. Happy Foraging👊🍄

      @@wilaivi8945 YW. Great to hear you got out there. Chanterelles should be in some of the lower elevations, look in the hemloch's with Salal and ferns and some open patches with the Moss cover. Like in my recent Chanterelle video. King Boletes you will have to gain access to much higher elevation. By now, some of them would be pretty buggy. As per the Boletes, they sound like they could be Butter Boletes . A great field guide on the types is highly recommended. Better to be safe and sure. Thanks for sharing . Good luck with your foraging. 👊🍄

The stems I usually dry rub season and dry a bit then vac seal for a while then I usually grill or part smoke /grill. They are excellent sauteed as well. I'm editing a VID about it but it's finished. Duxelles is awesome. You should try drying and powdering and then add seasonings to the powder. Hello April. Thank you so much I appreciate you watching and also for commenting. Absolutely, the closest to you in WA is the SW WA Mycological Society in Chehalis, swmushrooms.org/, but also since your so close to Portland, there is also The Oregon Mycological Society www.wildmushrooms.org/ . Here's a link to the PSMS in Seattle with a whole bunch of links to view www.psms.org/links.php. I would venture over to the Battle Ground State Park and have a look around there. Your very close to Trout Lake WA and that is an awesome area to forage in the late summer and Fall. I'm not sure of your skill level, but getting out and foraging is the best way to learn, even better with someone who has experience. A great Field guide is by my friend Daniel Winkler he has Fruits Of The Forest. amzn.to/3ARG9yc (it's my AFF. link) It literally just came out last fall. It's amazing and a very well rounded book when it comes to Fungi. I hope that wasn't too much info at once. Feel free to ask if you have other questions. Happy to share . What do you do with the blue staining ones? Ive been finding quite a few of those but not a single king.

    • @ImFungiHunter
      @ImFungiHunter Před 3 dny

      Hello. I don't normally harvest them for food, although they are edible and when you get them in perfect condition they taste really good. There usually pretty Buggy beyond what I would care. The Kings are what I seek out as I make a lot of food stuff and medicinal extracts and powders with them. They are my absolute favorite of the Boletes. If your finding a lot try increasing your elevation and perhaps location. Old growth with smaller growth trees are great areas to look. Right now it's the higher elevations to find them 4500' +. If your in WA or OR I would look for roads or the passes where you can find a trail that leads up to higher elevations with the proper forest environment. But if your finding Blue staining ones, go higher if possible. If you find them up higher in one area, then as the cooler fall weather comes in, check lower areas. Hope that helps. Thank you for watching and commenting . Have a great day👊🍄

      @@ImFungiHunter Thank you for the advice. Found only one huge blue staining one today at 4100 and tons of big russula. I thought the blue staining were bitter boletes but did see an article recently that also mentioned an blue staining one that is edible.

    • @ImFungiHunter
      @ImFungiHunter Před 3 dny

      @@radiantheatingservicesnw3465 Hey there, YW. Cool that you did. But I noticed in both trips in the Cascades, that when you start seeing them you still need to go higher. In my Mt Baker video it was like that. 4000-4500 was like what you saw. Even our recent trip about the same elevations then once we hit 4500, then we started to see the Kings. If the trail your on has a higher elevation to get to then I would go higher. We went last Thursday and by the time we hit 4800 we were seeing new buttons like in my video. We then headed back down. Try that if possible. But on a side note, if your in WA we have a high heat and Fire Watch Danger for elevations above 1500’ and all my go to areas are like that now. Just be cautious and check the weather and warnings if you are. I will be looking for Chanterelles and Lobster the next several days at the lower elevations. Good luck with your foraging. Are there any Ramarias out there that you watch out for that could be a bad look alike to that Ramaria you took at 12:30? Thank you.

      Hey there. Well for my area in WA in the cascades in the Spring we have this one which is the Yellow Spring Coral (Ramaria rasilispora) it is considered edible, properly prepared. Properly identifying can be a challenge but for us here in the Spring we have maybe 2 similar, the one above and the also the BigFoot Coral (Ramaria magnipes) but this one is a very intense colored yellow. As with any Ramaria , if you haven't eaten it before you should just try a little and see if it taste bitter or if you have any GI reaction. Always best to be cautious first time. I'm going to be using it to make some extracts. I believe you also get them in CA. Hope it helps. Thanks for watching and reaching out. LMK if you find any. Thanks Brother👊🍄

      @@ImFungiHunter Thanks for the insights, FungiHunter! What are you thinking to extract from these ramaria and what benefits are you thinking you'll get out of them?

      @@mmmmmray GM, I do a lot of my own extracts and research and I read a paper about the Antioxidant activity of various fungi, in relation to Phenolic compounds and their free-radical scavenging abilities. A yellow coral , Ramaria flava, that grows in other parts of the world had shown to have a a wide range of antioxidant, antibiotical and anticancer activity and since I am able to find similar fungi here in the same family , I thought I would do an extract in an alcoholic solution, as per the research and since it can last indefinitely , I would have one to try and test if needed. I prefer to make my own in this regards and since it popped up on my radar and I found that one, it seems like it was meant to be. It is quite amazing to be able to go into the forests and gather the bounty and bring it back home to feed and heal yourself. Something quite special, well for me . I am truly grateful. Thank you for asking , hope the reply wasn't too long. Have wonderful 4th my Brother , stay safe 👊🍄

      @@ImFungiHunter I appreciated the thoughtfulness and detailness of your reply! Thanks for helping me understand. I've been having immune issues and have been meaning to go and find more turkeytails to supplement my diet as well. It definitely is a great to be able to live and forage for medicine for oneself! Absolute freedom and connection with nature!

      @@mmmmmray Hey Brother , thank you. If you don't mind I would like to suggest you go and visit realmushrooms.com I have e the ability to make my own extracts and supplements, but I do buy from them and have been doing so for over 7 years. They have a tremendous amount of information in there "LEARN" section. If you have the ability to purchase from them , I would sincerely suggest you do. While you are learning and going out and foraging, you can use there products to help you in this regards. Now full disclosure, I am NOT affiliated and trying to sell you. I have been a longtime customer and always recommend them to everyone I can . I take the Lion's Mane, Cordyceps, Resihi and Turkey tail minimum. You can purchase from AMZ or go directly to their website. If you go to the website , as a new customer you get 20% your first purchase. What I like is that they have different sized capsules. i buy the 300 count ones, as I take more daily of what is recommended. The Lion's mane alone is my saving grace. I was in a horrible accident back then and it was the only mushroom that actually helped alleviate my neuropathy . I also use the supplements for our Chocolate Lab. If you have any other questions, just ask happy to help. 👊🍄
