I rode out this storm about 20 minutes East of Bay St. Louis with my grandparents. Over the years after Katrina struck we only had tropical storms, and at worst Cat 1s hit us. 15 years of that caused us to be unconcerned and unprepared for the hurricane. We didn't didn't buy anything to prepare and ended up being without power for two days with only one bag of ice to work with that I was lucky to even get. We had no idea it was going to be that strong, and I believe to this day that this was stronger than a CAT 2. This thing caused so much damage to property and destroyed nearly all our piers on the coast.

Thank you for not running that stoplight. I won't pass too much judgement on those that did as there was a chance it was malfunctioning. But we were sitting at it for probably 20 minutes, the landspouts started forming, and a solid portion of the chasers at the light ran it. I eventually ended up turning around and taking the back grid, getting a not-too-but-still-distant view of the later mesocyclone tornadoes. Big congrats on the front row view.
