My daughter and husband ..an elder..(still JW's and have cut me off for leaving chose to not have children for the reasons you have given.

Nevermind the fear of Armageddon, put me off having any maternal instincts to have children, which affected both my marriages. I eventually had a child at 42 and she is my world, bt my fears of her living in such a messed up world, remains a worry. They really change the way the brain sees everything, pushing the fear.

I have to disagree that these highly seasoned bankers are JWs. The pattern you are talking about is already broken by the org using non-JW lawyers like in Norway. As they demand and problems requires larger volume and more sophisticated expertise, they will use non-JW experts more and more often... for handling law cases, massive funds, global PR, ITC related processes etc.

@Lloyd Evans, can you possibly make a video where ex JW who was not raised in JW family, but became JW as adult through bible study, tells his or her story? It would be interesting to hear also those ex JW, not just those who were raised in jw family.

For JW it is better not to have kids as JW organization itself is very cruel to kids. But there is also some nonsense in the video - JW gets material for their cruelty to kids from the fact that there are some kids in the JW religion. If there were no kids, there would be no such things that babies are god's enemies, demands that kids preach at schools, child baptisms, disfellowshiping of children, shunning of disfellowshipped children by their JW parents, etc. But: JW are gonna extinct if they won't have kids.

I was raised to think that my child will start crying and the “army” will find me and kill us during the great tribulation or whatever. My dream was to be a mom, I had to convince myself that is not what I wanted. Now im free but clocks’ ticking at 31y/o. Thank you for nothing governing body

Watching 'the handmaids tale' at the moment and watching this it's like something straight out of the series it's scary

I'm an almost 59 yr old, non-practicing roman catholic homo looking for a spiritual, Christ-centred, bible based family and home. Even though i was active in the lifestyle up until 10 yrs ago, I've dropped out of it because it brought me so much pain and misery. I've also never supported a full on gay marriage thing. Anyways, I've been seriously considering joining the JW organization because i do find it very intriguing and palatable, in terms of the reading materials, bible study book and the bible itself. I do take issue with many of the points brought up here, always have, especially the shunning bit... and admittedly i don't know if i can live without the Spirit of the Christmas holidays, it's been so ingrained in my psyche... i don't get all caught up with all the holiday over consumerism, as i believe it's sacrilege.. profiting at the feet of Christ's birth etc, but.... Also not being able to participate in celebrating my dear parent's birthdays any longer who are now in their 80's would seem downright cruel at this stage.... so, yes, many pluses with the religion, but also quirky and strict beyond what it needs to be... well, Lloyd, not sure whether to thank you, or not for this video.... I've never been so torn about a making a decision about something so important... my spiritual and religious life, affiliation and welfare! Prayers, please! Cheers.

I think that the Watch Tower Society wants Witness adults work more for the interests of the faith. Children just get in the way. I think they know, as clueless as they can be, that studies have pointed out that an interesting number of people -- at least in North America -- end up leaving the Witness faith as some point, likely in their adult lives, who were raised as JWs and many of these people do not return to the faith. So, the Society has to try to appeal more to potential adult converts. I wonder why the Japanese headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses when asked, had only decided to just dismiss offhand inquiries concerning a national study which indicated that JW parents and legal guardians in Japan were more likely to physically discipline their children -- according to interviews given with both current and former JWs who talked about how child discipline was utilized by their Witness parents or guardians when they were growing up by just saying, "Oh, this study is nothing more than the rantings of some angry apostates". Did you even bother to read the study at all?

There are some JW adults who very dysfunctional people who probably shouldn't conceive children, and who probably shouldn't even be allowed to adopt children, so perhaps some should remain childless.

This is morally wrong to influence couples to not have children. Robbing people of the happiness that can bring people who want children is so overboard. That passive-aggressive delivery is disturbing.

To this day, I don’t know if my decision to not have children was entirely my own. And it makes me weep because although it isn’t TOO late for me - it is late. And I have so many lingering issues from when I was fully bought in, that I know it is unlikely at this point for me. They like to pretend that they don’t discourage people from having children but they do. And its wrong. Their influence is felt in every area of your life and even if you make it out- sometimes you never fully do. 😢

The only good thing about them discouraging having children is how much it has backfired on their growth. You get the sense that they're trying to reverse that policy by making things a little more family positive.

There are six cousins on my dad's side. I am the only one that has a child. The only grandchild and great-grandchild. My cousins refuse to get pregnant because they're worried about being pregnant or having a small child through armageddon, and they want perfect paradise babies. So basically, my entire family tree is about to become a stump.

I was in a congregation where we had a couple who married around that whole 1975 fiasco. They put off having kids for obvious reasons but I could tell every time a sister handed her a baby she was at times holding back tears. They finally had a baby girl in the mid 90s in their mid 40s. Their daughter is nearly 30 and I wonder if they think about if they didn’t have that child they so longed for how it would have turned out.

Back in the 80s there was so much personal judgment going on of those young couples who went on to have children. A pregnancy was almost viewed with an attitude quite different than what is normal for a pregnancy. There was a weird kinda shame attached to it, as if it was a sign of spiritual weakness not to wait until after Armaggedon. But the speaker here copy and pasted a barren Elizabeth account with jw couples deciding to have no children for the sake of furthering the org interests, two things that have really nothing to do with each other , other than a pregnancy issue is involved.
