You need to be more empathetic to others. A blind person uses a service dog literally to see and guide the handler and without that service dog that person looses their independence and that leads to a plethora of possible other issues,

You ask is that dog required because of a disability? Yes should be the answer. What task/tasks does the dog perform to mitigate your disability? If told medical or mental alert dog. That's acceptable. If the answer is comfort or companion. That's wrong answer. That's an ESA aka as a emotional support animal according to the ADA laws they don't have public access rights.

for the same reason you can't ask someone to show proof that they NEED a cane or a wheelchair. the service animal is not a pet, it's a disability aid. therefore, you can't ask someone why they need it or to prove it.

There are training programs, but you can also owner train a service dog. I personally couldn't afford the large one time fee from a program, but can afford the fees over a large period of time. Therefore I went the owner trained route. Just because I did does not mean that my dog is not a service animal nor does it make me any less disabled. If people from programs show papers or the government makes it required to have program papers many people would no longer be able to have a service animal or have a semi-normal life. I hope this helped with misinformation on the subject.

@@kjstewart4003 No there is NO GOVERNMENT "paper proof" ALL those websites that have what you claim as "proof" is not "proof" However, it's due to misinformation like yours with the mindset that you can get this "proof " you claim and suddenly should be allowed to take a dog into a business while proclaiming it's an owner-trained dog which is GOING to end up ruining it for the TRUE service dog owner. Because of all this garbage where people like you pay a fee for NOTHING because that proof you claim allows you to bring your SD where ever you please is HARMFUL to the true SD owner. OF course there are overzealous SD "owners" that love to present their dog in a business with no vest, and wait patiently for someone to ask questions and they get off on throwing their knowledge around. While I support TRUE service animals there are "holes" in the ADA that will eventually end up making it more difficult for the TRUE SERVICE ANIMAL owner. The country is over-run with the "supposed" service dog who has "proof"...which is bullshit. Stop trying to convince ppl you know something you don't.

Under ADA law there is no legitimate proof of your dog being a service dog. No ID cards, no certification or registration. The dog must be task trained to aid their handlers disability. I am a 100% service connected, permanent and totally disabled Veteran. I was admitted to my local VA Hospital and was told I could not have my service dog as an in patient. I was in a private room with a private bath and I could take him to do his potty and I had his food and supplies. I had to sign out an against medical advice and seek treatment at a civilian hospital. I was told I was not really a veteran because I served post Vietnam but pre 9/11, so my service does not count.
