    The best tool life would be not to machine anything 😂 But we got work to do . I know on a lathe when roughing we want the largest doc we have the horsepower for. I think roughing is where you either make or loose money. I’ve watched this video 3 times and I love this guy

    안녕하세요. 내용이 자세해서 많은 도움이 됩니다. 칩브레이커 코드가 인선이 날카로움을 구분한다고 하셨는데요. CCMG, DNMG 0.8, 0.4, 0.2R의 경우 인선 모서리의 크기는 대략적으로 어느 정도 치수 차이가 있다고 생각하면 될까요. 상면과 측면이 만나는 모서리가 칩브레이커에 의해 칼날 처럼 날 두께가 있는 것 같은데 일반적인 측정도구로는 측정할 수가 없어서 질문드립니다. 감사합니다.

      안녕하세요. 1. R0.8 R0.4 R0.2 는 인선 모서리의 크기를 나타낸 것으로, 예를 들어 R0.8 이란 코너 반경(Radius) 0.8mm 을 말합니다. (원으로 표현하면 Φ1.6 이라고 할 수 있습니다) 즉 R0.8 은 반경 기준으로 R0.4 보다 2배 크고, R0.2 보다는 4배 큰 것입니다. 2. 칩브레이커가 동일하다면 R0.8, R0.4, R0.2 에 관계없이, 달라지는 코너 R 크기를 따라서 절삭날의 모양은 동일하게 따라갑니다. 동일한 정도로 날카롭고, 동일한 가공성, 동일한 강성을 가지고 있다고 이해하시면 됩니다. (다만 절삭 깊이 대비 코너 R이 너무 크면 칩 브레이킹 양상이 변할 수는 있습니다. 이것은 예외) 3. 칩브레이커의 날카로운 정도는 너무 미세하며 형상이 복잡하여 일반적인 수공구로는 측정할 수가 없는 것이 맞습니다. 하지만 어렵게 생각하실 필요는 없는게, 어차피 각 칩브레이커의 적절한 이송 범위는 각 공구회사의 카탈로그에 기재되어 있습니다. 더 궁금하신 부분에 대해서는 세코툴스 카카오톡 채널로 문의해주시면 답변드리겠습니다. 감사합니다.

    I would think that coating should be carefully chosen according to the specific material, and even possibly according to the tailing chip thickness to help draw the heat from that thinning chip. Additionally, doesn’t heavy flood cooling alleviate the heat from the thinning chip, or is that heat buildup so rapid that coolant doesn’t remove it more rapidly than it builds up? How do these compensating factors change the equations as they don’t involve these additions?

      Hello, and thanks for your comment. Very good reflections on the thermo-dynamic phenomena during machining. Some points to consider in this reasoning. 1. For coolant to be really effective, we need to apply it where the actual heat source is located. And that is mainly in the shear zone, To come there, the cooling needs to be in between the chip and the rake face of the tool and the local pressure is there approx. 20.000 bar! 2. If we could overcome that pressure and bring the cooling to the shear zone, it would enter an environment with a temperature of around 900 degrees Celsius. The cooling would instantly become steam and it would form a steam barrier that prevents the ‘’next’’ cooling to come to the shear zone. 3. The time effect. Imagine a tool used with an rpm of 6000 and with a radial depth of cut of for 30%. This means that the temperature on a cutting edge increases from room temperature to 900 degrees Celsius in 0,0015 seconds and then decreases back to room temperature in 0 seconds. This is a very fast answer. For more information, see the technical books.

    I have a hard time believing that high feed tool path was any faster than a standard endmill with a higher stepover. It's certainly not worth the annoying noise.

    I strongly recommend soaking in as much of the information as you can from this video, as a Machinist, you will grow, and it is good stuff! You want the big bucks in production Machining this is not far off from getting you there. I went from Button Pusher, to Lead Machinist in the company I work for, applying a lot of Patrick's teachings.
