    Hi there, LOVE the video, setting sleeves are the bane of my sewing life….i am practising like mad! One question I have is why do you sew from one notch around to the second notch and then up to the dot? Why not sew notch to notch, or sew dot-notch-seam-notch-dot to start with? If I stick with your method, is there a better notch to start with? The rear notch of the sleeve or the front notch of the sleeve? Thanks for letting me know Londa. x

    • @londasews
      @londasews Před 22 dny

      I believe I always start on the front single notch, then work my way around, past that starting point and then a bit towards the cut edge up to the back double notch so that the underarm area is stitched securely twice. I hope that answers your question.

    Hi Londa, Now that you've made me aware of them, I want to make every effort to avoid pointy pillow corners. That being said, can your corner tapering technique be used in combination with a zipper? If so, what advice do you have for obtaining a good result?

    • @londasews
      @londasews Před 2 měsíci

      I would be SURE to not have the zipper come anywhere close to the corner, regardless. Instead, I add width to the back of a pillow in the center of the back (or close to an edge - up to you), then insert a zipper with a lapped application. I just looked at one of mine, and it has a 1" overlap over the zipper. Wish I could attach a picture, but don't see that is possible. I have been doing this for decades, except I only trim 1/4". That information comes from an old Sunset pillow book. That book shows how to cut continuous binding as well. It is by far the best pillow book out there. I'm really glad you showed this tip. So many new sewers don't know this. I think the bigger the pillow the more you can trim. I'm using 16 x 24 pillow inserts and plan on tapering 1/4". But the next time I do an 18 x 18 or larger I will try the 1/2 " trim.

      No - you don't need to stitch a bottom stop. It is vitally important to press the roll of the invisible zipper OUT so that you can get close to the coil. Lay the zip right side down on the right side of the fabric right on the 5/8" line. You might find it hepful to baste the zip in place. Try those things...

    Very good explanation, thank you! I’m a new sewist and I’m petite. Most pants are too long for me. Would I need to make length adjustments from hip to knee or from knee to ankle or split the difference between both?

      It is always best to split the difference, altering at numerous places rather than all at one place. If there is shaping to the pant leg, you'll want to maintain that shape by shortening both above the knee and below the knee.

    genius to use contrasting colours of fabric. the illustration is more vivid. do you have any tips on how to finish the armhole in a french seam as in men's shirts?

      Yes, setting in a sleeve with a French Seam IS actually is possible. Use this same technique, but WRONG sides together to start, and in a 3/8" seam, then trim close, press right sides together, and do it again. A man's shirt is inserted with a flat fell seam.
