How to make anywhere feel like home
For those of us in the US, our time at home typically ends at around 18 years old. At that point, many of us move out, either in the same city or to a new one, and we begin the process of creating a new home. Or at least, some version of one. That's something I struggled with for a long time, but its been a focus of mine for the last year. And suffice it to say, things have changed.
This is the fifth and final chapter in a short series about what it's like to move somewhere new. I moved every 4 months for the past 2.5 years, and this series has been my way of really sitting down and process what each of those moves meant to me. It has allowed me to have some kind of closure on all these parts of my life, and while I've enjoyed making each of these videos, I'm excited to move on to some new projects.
Thanks for watching, preciate you :)

How I found my dream job
zhlédnutí 2,9KPřed měsícem
I never had a dream job growing up. Didn't really care to be an astronaut, or police officer, or actor, or whatever. I chose to study mechanical engineering, because thats what you do when you graduate high school and you're decent at math and science. But, after a lot of searching and moving around, I found my dream job - and I think you can too. This is chapter four in a short series about wh...

Why traveling the world won't change your life
zhlédnutí 1KPřed 5 měsíci
A lot of people dream of getting away, traveling, and seeing the world. They think it'll give their live meaning, and that the best thing they can do is move away and live somewhere new. Well, I did that. I moved to France and traveled all over Europe. Shockingly enough, it's not all it's cracked up to be. This is chapter two in a short series about what it's like to move somewhere new. I've mo...

Freedom is something I think most people long for, in one way or another, and getting out of your current town is certainly a way to experience that. Moving out west for a summer sounds like a dream come true for many, and for me it was. But when so-called "unlimited freedom" doesn't feel very freeing anymore, you begin to re-evaluate what it means, and you reconsider your "dream" of moving som...
I surprised my friend by learning her language

This has been a long time coming. I spent 30 days learning French, in an effort to surprise my french friend Louise when I visited her in Atlanta. Let me just say, it was so worth it. I've never considered myself very good at languages, but I truly believe they are some of the most valuable things we can spend our time learning. Being able to understand the way that other people around the worl...

Hello ! I wanted to know, did you improve your French since ?
french kiss in the end would be THE BEST
elle est gentille, elle parle lentement, cherche des mots simples
Le français c'est facile, sans effort tu connais déjà 2500 mots ! En effet Il y a 2500 mots vrais amis en anglais
13:17 That was a subtle way to say: I appreciate your effort to learn my language, but don’t try to get us out of the friend zone.
CARA ELA TA TÃO NA SUA
i HAVE to do that... who wanna be my friend?
I think the best way to learn a language is to talk it. I mean, talk to some people online in a different language for a while, and step by step you will really know it.
I hear a lot of people saying french is a very hard language so maybe that's why you didnt perform like you wanted
true but honestly think its easier than German, i just don't think 27 days is that much time lol
Bravo bien joué :) Your friend seems so nice ! She goes really out of her way to speak slowly and distinctly. I think the biggest struggle in france with natives would be that we speak very fast.
Merci! yeah she's alright, definitely appreciated her taking it easy on me
Bravo chef !
Je suis tellement impressionné par ta capacité de compréhension
Merci!

You did a great job !! Well done !
Shoot your shot lil bro tf you doin' in the friendzone💀
So no after a year, are you still friends or did learning French help evolve your relationship?? Good content dude.
Still friends lol. Thanks!
I'm french and good luck learning french in 30 days. I've been learning french for the past 17 years of my life (so basically all my life) and still can't write more than 10 sentences without making 5 mistakes ☠️ English is like 10× simpler (and better honestly) like I've been learning English for 5 years or something and I'm what I would call pretty good (I can speak like that without preparation about pretty much any subject) so yeah much better language, I hope the whole words would speak English. So well nice job you learnt a bit a french so it's cool and I hope you continue si you get better, on ne change pas une équipe qui gagne ! Bon sauf que là t'es tout seul. J'espère que tu comprendras c'est fin de commentaire 😅
Well in this one seems like the girl is pretty interested in him by the way she looks at him in the conversation part, this bro might be able to escape the zone, finally someone worth it hahahah
Are you married yet?
Voulez-vouz coucher..
non
nice video. You did great in 27 days (I am saying that as a french mother tongue speaker).I think it show as much of an attentive both you and Louise are.
Preciate it
Really amazing video man, keep going
thanks!
What a surprise ❤ It isn't just a green flag, it is such a green carpet Waiting for the backing videos 😂😂😂
Great job friend! Very impressive dedication, I love it. If you start another language from scratch, or even if you know some of the language but just want to improve, i have found the Michele Thomas language learning method to be excellent for getting you speaking naturally. They are audiobooks that are super easy and low effor to listen to, and get you speaking the basics of a language very quickly indeed. Pair that with some french videos at the right level (with friench subtitles) for listening comprehension and you'll be set. Oh btw the audiobooks are quite expensive, but you can find them for free if you know where to look (it isn't hard haha).
Thanks! thats a good idea, i'll check those out in the future when i land on a new language
Well done for 30 days. It took me a few months living in France. I got there at age 12 turning 13. Left at nearly 15. Great experience. Wish I stayed instead of moving to Spain for 9 years. Didn't enjoy my time there much. Met a couple great people but I would've prefered France. I need to pratice more. I understand it all at least, pretty much.
I find it weird when a guy is willing to do so much extra stuff for a "friend" who happens to be a girl. In my experience, men do it with hopes of getting a chance to either have sex or date or obviously both. Women hate hearing this but ignore how a man's body works in terms of biology. It's only natural if he finds a woman he likes, even if it isn't psychical at first, it will be. It will become more than what it was. And a guy is gonna wanna do more than just be friends. Especially if he claims you're his best friend and he doesn't have any other "best friends". Like of all he does if hang out with you, that lets you knoe everything. Just ask and insist. Tell them to be honest because you wanna know. Don't say much else. Let him speak. Watch.
Life Hack, watch kids shows then soap operas in the language you are learning; you’ll get a natural introduction + your own studying 👍
ah thats a good idea

If I had to do it off the flash cards I woulda been same way but with duolingo it really helped. I've already retained 1000 word's in 15 days. I understand over 43 short funny stories. That also helps to make associations. Also the gamification helps to motivate me. You can hear characters talking so your practicing listening which is harder than reading. It has speaking exercises too but I supplement some hard sounding words from youtube videos. I have a trip to canada soon so been putting about 5 hrs a day.
Wow that is impressive from duolingo. but 5 hours a day definitely would help a lot, i got a max of maybe 1
@zackburkhardt yea it's because I'm taking a trip to canada and my friend wants me to meet his mom and friends. Some of them only speaks French so I didn't want it to be awkward 😅. The trips in 6 days, so I'm going Gung ho lmfaooooo
@zackburkhardt yea 5 hrs a day isn't really practical for most people. Its quite abnormal lol I just have a little bit of extra time now, so taking advantage while I can
@zackburkhardt but the other thing w the app is that you get feedback when you're making a mistake and let's you correct it until you get it right. I corrected about 1000 mistakes already, so that also helps
@kiradomochi4961 Best of luck! let us know how it goes
Bro pulled some footage from the archives, love the video!!
reached deep in the bag
Im fench, and i have to say that i find it really impressive. The prononciation especially is something i didn't expect that you'd get it that well. Gj dude !
thanks man!
I don't know how I was recommended this video, but I'm so happy I did. You better fucking marry this girl or I'm gonna be really upset with you.
I’m really curious, are you going to continue with the journey to learn French so that you can one day speak fluently? Or was this only for 30 days?
If I have the opportunity, I do really want to keep pursuing it. That being said, its a lot harder without a specific goal. If i got a job in france, or got a french roommate or something, then definitely. But its hard to put in the effort continuously into french considering I'm also trying to improve my german to a level where I could live in Germany. I also have other hobbies and stuff I want to pursue. So ultimately, I'd love to, but I have no concrete plans yet to keep learning
praying you fix your "j'ai" by the end of the video and thats all I can ever ask (personal pet peeve as a french student in the US)
whoops
Good luck with Germany! Hope you'll succeed!) Btw, how did you become so wise? How do you explain such complex topics in simple language, making the topics themselves simple? That's really cool
im trying my best fr. I don't know if i'd call myself wise haha but I'm glad I'm communicating well. Idk, I've had a lot of experiences and I'm just trying to share what i've learned
@@zackburkhardt I must say that you are doing well, I hope it continues to be so! All the best and good luck to you in everything!)
She's still not going to have sex with young.
Incroyable, je savais même pas que c'était possible d'apprendre aussi vite GG Et je suis jaloux de l'aisance en anglais de ta pote mdr, c'est donc ça être bilingue
Merci! Yeah she's basically natively fluent in both which is nuts
insane, bravo mon pote
"Vous ressemblez toujours à une poupée troll avec une coupe de cheveux mormone, mais merci pour l'effort."
thats wild man
Nice work man!
As a french speaker myself, I really think that you did an amazing job. French is difficult, you managed a very good progress in 27 days only with cards. I can't estimate the sae for myself in english, because I speak english since school, but yet I'm learning german right now as well as spanish (easier to learn for a french speaker), and it's so hard, there's no way I could make such progress in 27 days.
Thanks! keeping the conversation controlled to what I wanted definitely helped lol
Aks her what happened in france in 1940
she wasnt alive then silly
@@zackburkhardt what about her grandma
Dude you did really well, I always advice ppl to learn another language, I speak 4 other languages besides English cuz it’s my first language but I speak French, Spanish, Portuguese and Setswana from a country in Southern Africa called Botswana. 🇧🇼 But I can say I’m still practicing my French there’s soo much I need to learn myself even after learning and speaking it for 6 years. YOU KEEP GOING AND DONT LET THAT STOP YOU CUZ MOST PEOPLE QUIT AND ARE SCARED, you got a real kind friend there who I’m sure will be amazing to help you.
Wow thats very impressive. Any tips for picking up 3rd or 4th languages? Thanks!!
Guess still not enough to get out of the friend zone :)
Ended up randomly on that video, I gotta say that, in 30 days, that's too short to have a good level in French, but you're doing great so far ! Keep working on it, and you'll be fluent quickly, parole de français mon ami 💪
merci!
Hope you enjoyed working at Universal Orlando! I really miss getting the discounted earl gray ice cream and butter beer
yeah honestly it was the best working experience of my life, i'd love to go back. lmao that is the exact ice cream i had in this video, so good. Did you work there too?
@zackburkhardt Oh my god yay! It's the best flavor, personally. And yes! I worked there for a year and a half with transit. It's been my favorite job so far too!
@@toonbax3 thats the only one i tried so glad I went with the right one. Nice! definitely a great place to work
@zackburkhardt For sure! Glad you had a great experience :)
You seem quite disappointed with the results but I can tell you, i'm french and i'm as impressed as your friend was when you told her you have only been learning for 27 days, don't compare yourself to people on the internet, most of the time only people with strong predisposition to learning new languages that developped very efficient techniques to do so will be confident enough to post videos about their journey My mother was an english teacher in France for 40 years, she's not with us anymore but she'd be definitely impressed too It's been a year now since the video released but if you want to go beyond those 30 days and become more proficient in french I'd be more than happy to chat with you anytime! Bien joué, je suis impressionné
Thanks! Looking back I think i was unfairly disappointed in myself, but honestly in part because I think I could've done better in the moment. I think i got really nervous (as any viewer can tell lol) and because of that, I think I didn't speak as well as I could have based on that current knowledge. I'd love to go back and learn more some day, so I might take you up on that eventually :)
C'est une super vidéo, et c'est impressionnant, on arrive à te comprendre même avec seulement 27 jours d'apprentissage, bravo !
Merci!
She’s gonna get that WEE WEE
